What are Correspondences in Magic and why do Witches use them?

- Correspondences... every beginner witch reads that word in the first book they read or hears it in their first conversation with another witch. They are an essential part to spellcraft. But what are correspondences? And how do correspondences work? Why do we use correspondences in witchcraft and magick? Why are correspondences such an essential part to witchcraft? Are they one of the things every beginner witch should know?

I completely agree with what you said towards the end about how it doesn't make sense when people say we need to "vibrate at a higher frequency." Thank you for saying this!!! Yes! Lower frequencies aren't bad and they aren't worse than higher frequencies. They're just different. 🤷♀️ It drives me INSANE when people preach that we need to vibrate at the highest frequency.
i read a study that colors actually have a psychological aspect too. like if you don't want to be as hungry paint a room blue or that prisons are painted pink for calming down
This actually makes a lot of sense, and felt familiar as well, as there is an ancient belief that the human is a miniature universe. Also aligns well with fractals.

To this day, I still haven't read the Kybalion or looked into the Hermetic Principles. It's something that's popped up a few times for me over the last few days though so maybe it's time! Thank you for this great video -- we believe in a very similar way 😊

Thank you so much for this video ! I am just starting my witch journey and these ideas of correspondence always made me wonder. For example, I would look at pink and think of course rose quartz is a corresponent for love, we use pink to reflect love in society. You have helped me understand that, perhaps, the reason we associate pink with romance is due to the vibrations and not some archaic construct from a long ago time. Kind of like what came first the chicken or the egg.. but now it makes sense! Thank you for a wonderful video :)
I totally agree with your take on ‘vibrating at a higher frequency.’ I used to live in a house with a bunch of folks who were obsessed with this idea - they were all about white light, the purity of higher frequencies, and ascension (mostly in a misguided relation to the Mayan 2012 prophecy) and I found it really toxic and it really wore me down. You are right on that the material world is just as valid.

I love this and completely agree! I also think that while focused thought alone is enough to carry a specific intention, that's usually not particularly easy for most people. So working with items that correspond with your set intention allow for a tangible representation of whatever you are aiming to influence. It's helps align you with the proper frequency to begin with, but then also helps to focus and hold your intention there. Love this! 🩵

I’d like to chime in and give another example for those that might still struggle with this explanation. In the game Minecraft, the hellscape known as The Nether can only be accessed by creating a Nether Portal with obsidian blocks lit aflame by flint and steel. The game tracks where in the overworld that portal is, divides each X, Y, and Z coordinate by 8, and produces a portal in the Nether to spawn you at with those new coordinates. You can then travel in the Nether, create a new portal elsewhere, and it will reverse the coordinate calculation when producing a portal in the overworld. Practically in the game, this can be primarily useful for fast travel.

Ich glaube, das mit den frequencies bezieht sich auf ein System in dem menschliche Emotionen in "higher / lower frequencies" eingeordnet werden. Zum Beispiel am weitesten unten in der Reihe ist Ohnmacht, Wut ist besser als Ohnmacht, dann geht es weiter und recht weit oben ist vermutlich sowas wie Zufriedenheit?! Ehrlich gesagt weiß ich es auch nicht genau. 😅

I'm a mixture of a hedge witch and a mind witch so my personal practice doesn't use correspondences very much, if at all. I prefer to work within the realm of spirit to aid in my Magick. I also believe that the lower the vibration, the more negative an energy is and the higher it is the more positive it is. This is based not on my personal opinions of reality but rather my experiences in it. When something has a lower vibration, it tends to feel heavier and the lower the vibration, the heavier it is and often times, more malicious and evil (for example, dark spirits and beings that wish to cause harm or have ill intent). The higher the vibration, the lighter the energy, and therefore the more positive it is like light spirits and beings of peace and benevolence.
Thank you this really helps, i've never fully understood this until now. So you did great at explaining even though it was in English, since I've heard English and Americans explain this and been left confused.
Thanks for the vid. All the modern witchy books I pick up include correspondences but I haven't even heard of the hermetic? principle so I didn't even have the fundamental understanding of why we use them
