- Relay services allow persons who are hearing to communicate with persons who are Deaf, DeafBlind or Hard of hearing very easily. Both the 711 and Video Relay Service are extremely user friendly!!

Fuck... I had my volume maxed out and didn't realize it until the audio cut in. Scared the shit out of me
That's what I use to make a phone call but on an iPhone so much easier and portable. I have hearing impaired which works great for me with unlimited data text and call.
I didn’t realize there are almost interpreters for this kind of information
this was so cool to see how this technology works!
Operator wouldn't be typing on a flimsy little machine, they have actual computers in those offices that they hook up with the tty.
There is always some expert such as yourself making a smart ass remark
I turned the volume up at the beginning XD
Wow she type really fast...
iannickCZ I promise you that was sped up. Not that it can’t be done. But I can tell it was sped up.
Saint Jabroni
Maybe iannickCZ referring to the deaf woman (orange t-shirt)? Because she types so fast. (Not the sped up operator one)
She must have purchased Mavis Beacon Teaches TTY
@Marcelo Esteban Mauricio I believe it notifies her that the phone/tty is ringing because she's deaf and couldn't hear if it were making a noise, so instead it uses the light to get her attention. Deaf people also use this method for other alarms such as an alarm clock that would rattle a bed and strobe a light until disabled. Pretty innovative, yet simple.
@Marcelo Esteban Mauricio Ring indicator lamp, you will see the lamp is on for 2 seconds and off for 4 meaning it is being operated by a relay responding to the telephone line ringer current.
John McFerren HPA :)
I remember using these.
This video hurts my nipples. Go ahead.
i used to troubleshoot people's cable boxes and internet through a relay service. that was fun
@FairyGardens TV We'd get a call from a relay service, they'd tell their operator number, give basic info of the end user's name and then they'd start describing either sign language through teleconference with the end user or the end user would use a device like this to chat with a relay. Nearly all of the calls resulted in sending out a technician to assist. Ocasionally we'd be able to fix it remotely if the cable box needed a hit or reprovisioning a modem.
Neat!
I remember those days 😊
What if the operator doesn't know how to spell an important word, like the name of a medication, or if they missed something? Will they ask for clarification, or do they just try to be as fast as possible?
And for names too, the operator will ask to spell it out
My mother in law has this video call thing connected to a tv. Basically turns your tv into Skype. Paid for by the state of CA.
Yes, that must be called Video Relay Service (VRS) which is paid by the FCC.
TTY contact banking merge with dept of treasury for funds that's needed mileage forms and timesheets

Are these still available because some people in the 90s don’t use cell phones and also people with arthritis. Hard of hearing. Do these still exist?
Yes, in your phone settings you can enable Software TTY.
My MIL has a camera that can connect to any modern tv that can turn it into Skype/Facetime. She uses it for appointments and even just talking to her friends.
Done.

sound of mechanical keyboard
I just bought one of these today. It is mechanical. It looks like a white switch but feels like a red. There is no click at all.
Specifically, most of these devices have cherry switches (common in many of the nicer mechanical keyboards, and are still made for mech keyboards today! They are awesome)
