We need to invest much more in the train sector. Cheap, fast and green transportation will naturally make us more competitive and connected.
True, in vdL's country Germany train system gets even worse every year.
yes exactly
In Hungary (where I live) the state owned train company, MÁV advises not to use their trains. They exist for one purpose and they can't fulfill it. Most trains are very old, have no AC, the floor is a meter high up and the only way up is very steep stairs (I am young, fit and able-bodied but if I have a bigger backpack even I have problems climbing up). The trains are slow (always below 80km/h but at some places it's 60km/h), constantly late and unreliable, they break down a lot and replacement buses suck too (they, too tend to break down). Yet, sometimes there's no other way to get to places other than train or car (which many people don't have)
in the two, westernmost counties (Vas and Győr-Moson-Sopron), there's another train company called GYSEV-Raabenbahn which surprise surprise works. It's not owned by the Hungarian state but sadly they're trying to change that
@@eddastrohmayer251 I just watched a video yesterday, explaining that the rail service in Germany will probably now get even worse, but that's because there's a major overhaul of the whole network starting soon. That should modernize the network and reduce delays and increase speeds across the country.
In Czechia, for example, they're constantly modernizing the fleet and building new high-speed rails.
I'm cautiously optimistic about the TEN-T project.
@@Domihork They did nothing for many years under conservative government (which included vdL). Now they are very criticised bc even the Greens in the government (Baerbock) slept the last few years. There will be elections soon, therefore their will not occur anything again. I am really not optimistic.
But really good to hear that Czechs on a sensible path.
Yeah but for the next 30 years it will get worse. Maybe more @Domihork
Mp should vote openly. We should know how and who vote how
Absolutely insane that the votes are private for them.. Vote counters could literally pretend that X votes and for Y..
Yes in order to rule out the weasels.
Only one candidate??? Where is democracy?? It's another dictatorship?
It's hard to blow on the souls of the dumb sheep to vote for you and at the same time vote sensibly in the parliament... So I can to some extent understand why they vote privately (public voting has the advantage of showing people the gore but the drawback that voters are rarely sensible enough to understand reason... the joy of democracy - the worst choice but better than the rest due to the human nature...).
@@DerDoMeN And I suppose you're part of the enlightened ones right? The ones who get to make all the rules, take all the money and control everyone else without any consequence right? After all, you are the chosen ones who know better what dumb sheep need than dumb sheep themselves.
And the only reason they want to vote privately is to shield themselves from any consequence their vote might bring. It's an affront to democracy.
A breakdown of who voted for her and who didn't would be interesting. Of course the vote was secret, but many leaders still said out loud what their groups were supposed to do (S&D, Meloni, etc)
A bit difficult in a secret vote.
We know that the Italian fascists didn't vote for her, that could be an indication she is actually good.

8:16 - "Germany's representative could oversee climate change'. As von der Leyen is from Germany, she IS the representative from Germany and the rest of the member states will fill the other commissioner jobs.
True. I should have used a different example.
It's not done that way. She's the head of EU Commission, which exonerates her from any other internal position. EU-Presidency is a heavy task that shouldn't be combined with any other position. According to the EU Constitution, the European Council in agreement with the Commission President-elect, adopts a list of candidate Commissioners, one for each Member State, to form the College of Commissioners after final approval from the EU Parliament.
@@michaelstorm4785 The EU doesn't have a constitution. French voters made sure of that in 2005 sadly.

thanks for the explanation infos EU made simple
No politician is perfect, and she certainly has her own issues, but so far, I like the plan she is proposing. She mentioned EU Reform, which in my opinion, is the most important topic of all.
Europe needs to be able to do more, and to do it better. It it way too bureaucratic, sluggish, and does not involve the citizens nearly enough.
We are in an era of crises, and we need to take action to strengthen ourselves.
United we stand
Divided we fall
The larger, the more member states, the more difficult common sense becomes. Therfore work will not become easier
The issue here is that bureaucracy only works in one direction. upwards. If a citizen needs something fixed or paperwork you need to jump 55 hoops, while they just need to send you one envelope.
The fact that those who voted for or against are kept secret says enough about the transparency of European politics. A direct vote, a referendum by the people if it were the case here should be secret. The representation of the will of the people is gone here, since we got to vote for those that vote her in. Does that make sense?
@@MrDertien Votes on legislation are public. The Commission votes are private so the political groups cannot coerce their members into voting like the group tells them too. I would also prefer a public voting, but I understand the reasoning behind it.

Unlike many other commentors, I hope you don't do a video trying to work out who voted for her. Such a type of guesswork doesn't fit this excellent channel in my opinion at all!
Anyway, this was a great video! Do you take interns by chance?
What? You have a problem with transparency?
@@teresaolszanka112 No, he's got a problem with random guessing.
Do you have trouble reading?
Sounds good, but she's still a politician...
Congratulations to Von der Leyen, given new mandate.
🤮
As you said, you either love her or hate her. I personnally love her and how she acted during this legislature. Beginning with the fact that she is the first female EU Commission President, and a determined one. She has ambition for Europe and the developments that happened during these 5 years are remarkable (Green Deal, many acts mainly the common EPS Act, etc). She dealt the crisis perfectly and she knows how to handle 27 national leaders. I also personnally believe the Migration Pact was something good and necessary in order to calm down the fears of some people that later tend to vote to the far-right.
And now in her speech it makes me love her even more. I just hope her new plans come to fruition in these next 5 years
Offer your green deal to Africa. I am not interested to buy more expensive European products!
Your russian currency is worthless anyway.
European products are expensive because we produce them without polluting the environment. You seem to have a problem with logic and common sense but to each their own. Enjoy your cheap products and have fun destroying the planet you're living on.
Fantastic news❤🎉
for VDL yes, for Europe, NO.
@@MrDertien Yes, for Europe!
@@Elfdustify What Europe are you speaking of actually? The Europe that saw all its commodity prices drastically increased since Covid? The Europe that got locked down by VDL and her policies? The one that is en route to a digital Euro that nobody really needs or wants? The Europe that is being fleeced with taxes that are sent to Ukraine, while Blackrock reaps the benefits? The Europe that does US's bidding? The Europe that has so many politicians that don't even know what everyday life costs? Let me rain on your parade; VDL is not your savior, she only saves herself, that is what career politicians and nepotism does.
@@Elfdustify Are you getting paid for this nonsense?
Pro-Kremlin trolls are really attracted to these kind of videos…
Congrats to Von der Leyen and Europe!
Are you a troll of Brussels or Washington?
You just cant understand that Russia energy will be crucial for Europe and that US made and is making everything to prevent EU technology and Russian energy to merge. That would be huge competition for US.
So US is happy if things in EU go most wrong and bad and the best is if Russia and EU can suffer together
US can claim victory
@@avitalsheva I don't want my euros to go to the Russian oligarchs. I was always against buying fossil fuels from Russia.
@@andreiyevanov He thinks he is pro-European, but actually he follows only US Neocons - hegemonial interests.
@@aodriseu I dont want to go my EUROS go to USA oligarchs as well and especially if they have higher prices than Russian.
You can be activist and want to pay much more for everything and make EU just vasal state for USA , i understand.
But others want to have competitive and prosperous EU with good living standards ( which is very much in decline recently) and want to cooperate with Russia as well. If USA can have Monroe doctrine then Russia can have own safety policy as well
Thank you
This is wonderful news! 😍❤️
She is a traitor! What are you talking about. She sells out Europe and represents US interests. She makes Europe a colony to the US!
