- A 28 year old frenchy decided to thru hike the Pacific Crest Trail ( PCT ) in 2018. This 4,270 kilometers long distance hike goes from Mexico to Canada through the desert and mountains of California, across the john muir trail in the Sierra Nevada, through the volcanoes and forests of Oregon and through the steep mountains of Washington. It took him almost 6 months to accomplish his feat and hike the USA but not without change.
It is an adventure that also enabled to collect 1,300 € for Doctors without Borders.

I love a lot of the more poetic, cinematic and romanticized PCT films too, but this one feels much more "real" than a lot of those. Thanks for adding this unique personal take to the ever growing pool of fantastic thru hiking films!

Great narrative and storytelling throughout the film! I thruhiked in 2017 and this does an excellent job of capturing the spirit of the trail. Beautiful visuals too! Congrats.
Very nice film. The black bear situation was more dangerous than you thought, he even did a quick bluff charge at you, so he was not cool about the situation... Even if they are just small like often in Washington, they are still really powerful
Thanks Gundis ! I try not to bother them but as like many photo enthusiasts, I am torn by the desire to stay and get the picture. I recognize I was maybe a little too close for his liking and should have sensed it.

Merci pour tout ce partage, beaucoup d'émotions, j'ai aussi beaucoup ri car tu dis tout haut ce qu'on pense tout bas pendant les treks. Mon rêve de faire le PCT reviens grâce à toi, rêve difficile à réaliser en raison d'une vie familiale. Partir un mois pour faire la GTA passe encore, 6 mois.....
Avec ces belles images, je vais passer une bonne nuit et rêver à cette façon d'exister que j'aime de plus en plus !

Wow!!!!.... By far the best documentary of hiking the PCT that I've ever seen. I'm sorry that Washington State was so wet. I live here in Washington State. The Washington section is by far a great section of the hike. You were a bit late to finish. That's why you ran into so much rain and snow....

Hey, FDG! Nice docu-vlog on the PCT! After living nearly my entire life (66yrs) in Washington, and watching countless vids of PCT hikers, and doing some Trail Magic last Fall, I find myself being amazed that more hikers don't do the Trail SOBO. Yes, if you're going to start in Washington, you've GOT to be in shape before you start. BUT!, that way you can see the BEST scenic part of the Trail (IMHO) at the best part of the year to see it! Yes, you have to wait until normally at least mid July to start, but I think the desert in Nov/Dec is easier than Wash in Sept/Oct. We sometimes have great Septembers, but above 5000 ft it can be a crap-shoot any time of year. Glad you enjoyed your trip to N America, Skagit Ed
It is true and if I were to do it again, I would go SOBO. Eventhough I had crappy weather in Washington, the few sunrays I got made the state my favourite by far. I woud recommend going SOBO to anyone.

merci pour ce partage. A 50 ans j'ai fait seul, Lille Toulouse en 40 jours, sans mettre entrainé. Beaucoup d'ampoules à cause de chaussures trop rigides, quand je vois les vôtres, bref beaucoup de douleurs, mais aussi de bon moment. Ensuite à 2 j'ai fait le tour du Mont Blanc. Ce qui fait que j'imagine ce que tu as pu endurer. Je regrette de ne pas avoir ce que tu as fait à ton âge, car en vieillissant tu récupères beaucoup moins bien. Je faisais entre 30 et 40 kms par jour. Quand il fait chaud, tu colles, quand il pleut tout est mouillé et tu ne dors pas .. Bref j'ai bien ris quand un randonneur disait qu'il jurait après les montagnes et tout le reste.. Parfois on est un peu au bout. Je pense aussi à tous ces migrants qui traversent les déserts, les mers, et les pays mal équipés avec femme et enfants et qui en plus se font chasser une fois arrivés : les larmes me montent aux yeux.

Congrats on your epic journey and a wonderful doc. Very good use of your drone through the Sierra's and especially through the Goat Rocks , love the footage of the Knifes Edge from above. I yelled yea as you said Wash . was the best , until all the rain and snow. I'm sorry the weather wasn't kind but maybe it will bring you back to my state in the summer sometime because their is so much more to see.

I’ve met you guys at Stagecoach RV Resort, or Julian, I can’t quite remember. The wind got me off of the trail in 2018, after I fell 3 times hiking from the Cabazon underpass through the Mesa Wind Farm, I was able to reach White Water Preserve and from there to Big Bear Lake, where I was picked up by my buddy. He drove from Fullerton to BBL to rescue me, I had a really bad herniated disk.
Best month of my entire life!
We were at the stagecoach RV :) Oh shit, hopefully all is well now and you get to enjoy the trail again ;)
I hiked in 2019. My experience was the same, no big self discovery, turns out I just like adventure and milkshakes too ;-)
