The wee hours of the morning timeslot was a goldmine for finding old, obscure, or weird shows. I remember sitting up all night after graduating high school because I had nowhere else to be the next day anymore and watching He-Man, She-Ra, Transformers cartoons I somehow never knew existed, and weird children's cartoons I had never even heard about in my life like Spliced or some show about a hedgehog solving science and nature-based mysteries because it was literally the only thing on at 3am when I was awake and bored.
@@Childishju yeah the four episodes premiered under the radar bc they chose to focus on All Grown Up which was a better decision. And would randomly repeat early hours.

I always liked shows like Iznogoud or Jester the Adventurer/Gokudo in japanese.
I mean it could be the rugrats of the original rugrats. Though hopefully will be in line with the OG and all grown up and not that reboot that is best swept under the rug.

@@stigyanblue1442 appreciate your reply! But yeah, I know she isn’t actually wearing lipstick, her lips were just a little exaggerated red which is why it looked like she was. I’m surprised they didn’t go with a pink or a light brown because that’s how black people lips actually are. But I don’t blame them for going red, either one works. It just sticks out alot in pre-school daze lol.

"turtle air freshener" - the Turtles literally lived in the sewers, lol.. plus imagine being a kid and getting air freshener as a present.
Lmaoo for a normal kid it’s probably a pretty crappy gift but as someone who is obsessed with the turtles I’d absolutely love that sewer smelling cardboard air freshener lol
Also on the Ninja Turtles I like to think 2003 series was sorta middle ground between Creator owned Cartoon and Merchandise driven Cartoon considering Co Creator Peter Laird was heavily involved and work closely with writers on the show some Mirage Studios comic writers even wrote episodes
Oh absolutely, the era of pure marketing to children left when the 90s came, that 2003 tmnt cartoon is something special
Nick didn’t want to do two Rugrats spin offs concurrently. Nowadays, they have three SpongeBob shows running concurrently.

why did the Reboot De-aged Suzie?
They wanted Suzie there more often and thought making her one of the rugrats instead of Angelica's age allowed them to include her in every episode (I think this has to do with the desire to have more diversity in the show). I personally didn't like this change because Suzie was an amazing older sister figure for the rugrats.

_Rugrats Pre-School Daze_ just doesn't do anything unique. Angelica and Susie were already preschool-age in the original series. The spin-off show basically just took them as they were and put them in a preschool setting. Not to mention the fact that the babies, who are literally the namesake of the show, don't appear as regular characters. Why would anyone want to watch a show like that?
Yeah I agree, it didn’t add anything. It actually just took away the adults which is weird because I thought they were just as interesting as the babies
Rugrats was a product of its time. For me, it started to go down hill after the first movie. When we got older, we moved on to anime on Toonami, Pokemon, and Digimon. The kids born in the mid/late 90s had SpongeBob as that took over the world next. Rugrats, like 5th generation gaming and The Attitude era, were one of those things that you HAD to be there.
It was after the second movie for me. Rugrats in Paris is an even better movie than the first one, which was a little dark and depressing for its intended audience, and also I liked Kimi better than Dil because she actually did stuff other than exist in the background, and Kira's attempts to be a good mom to Chuckie in the episodes following the movie was really sweet. Sometime before the third movie it started degrading in quality for me and the third film that crossed over with The Wild Thornberrys was one of those things I watched a single time and decided I never needed to see again ever.
I can get what you’re saying, rugrats would still work for me today but I’m not sure wide audiences would agree. The attitude era was something special and you definitely had to be there but wrestling in general is still going strong, so maybe the right type of rugrats reboot or spin-off could too? Or maybe it’s just too late for those babies
@@Childishju It wouldn't work on account of technology nowadays. There was something special about it devoid of the tech influences that are pervasive now. Generally kids don't even interact the same way anymore since they're more likely to engage with a tablet or phone than other children.

I have Rugrats: Tales From the Crib: Three Jacks and a Beanstalk on DVD, and I used to watch it a TON as a kid, and I would always watch the special features on DVD'S as a kid. I'm a 2005 kid, so DVDs were still in, and we sometimes couldn't afford cable. Anyway, the DVD included two episodes, episodes 3 and 4, of Rugrats Preschool Daze. I always wondered if they were just shorts or something, and I didn't figure out until I was 18 that those episodes were a canceled show. It's pretty cool to know I have a physical copy of those episodes and seen those episodes a bunch of time.

Actually, there is a considerable fanbase for the reboot, I being among them. While yes, the original series will always be a classic, but we, the fanbase, still appreciate the respect the reboot had towards the original.

Long story short, they had originally planned on having Pre-School Daze as the first spinoff for rugrats. But the All Growed Up special ended up being a smash hit, and broke the record for cable ratings. Unfortunately it was a short-lived record because 9/11 would happen just a few months later. But they then decided to focus all their efforts and staff on making an All Grown Up spinoff show instead of Pre-School Daze. It had nothing to do with Spongebob Squarepants. As they were actually wrapping up Spongebob Squarepants, and focusing on the Spongebob movie. But Spongebob Squarepants became more and more popular so they started the show up again. Which isn't unusual. As Rugrats initially ended production after 65 episodes. But because the IP became so popular after those 65, the restarted production on Rugrats. And All Grown ended in 2008, after Klasky-Csupo's exclusive contract with Viacom expired in 2007, and they chose to not renew it. As far as Pre-School Daze, I really didnt love it. It lacked the heart Rugrats had. So I'm not sad they chose to abandon it after 4 episodes. And I do funny enough have those on DVD. But it's not rare by any stretch of the imagination. You can still get DVD quite easily and cheaply on amazon.
Wow a lot of fantastic information here, pretty much everything you said is true. I’ve seen other comments from people saying that preschool daze would have been more successful on Nick jr and I kinda agree with that but yeah it is funny that they decided to throw it on as extras in the tales of the crib DVDs. And yeah I know that the DVD isn’t rare, they go for pretty cheap and a lot of people don’t even realize they own them. I was more saying that owning the dvds meant they had a special piece of rugrats history.

@@Childishju yeah, I felt like they could've done so much more with the reboot, instead of a re-tread. Because Rugrats doesn't have to mean Tommy, Chuckie, and Angelica. They could've made Rugrats an IP similar to Star Trek. Where they can make brand new stories, with brand new characters. Rugrats: The Next Generation, with brand new babies, in a completely era of the 21st century. Seeing how they navigated in an era of smartphones, and tablets, with a pandemic, and struggling economy. It's basically the the complete opposite of the 90s. It would've been interesting to see. But they didn't do that. They chose to just rehash the same show from the 90s. And the show worked in then90s. But you can't do that same show in 2024, and expect it to work. It's an old saying, but you have to get with the times. Just like how Degrassi had to change with the times with the next generation. You couldn't do the same Degrassi from the 70s, in the year 2000. Times are just too different. I was very disappointed in the Rugrats reboot. And it was sad to see Rugrats try to live in its former glory, only to be a shell of its former self. That Rugrats, with Tommy, Chuckie, and Angelica, should've stayed in the 90s, and early 2000s. But a Rugrats with Chris, John, Nicole, and Samantha (just random generic name I came up with on the fly) could've been something really interesting.

For context, I am autistic and Blues Clues genuinely has given me so much joy and comfort. I feel so upset, Paramount does not care about anything aside from profits. That much is clear. Yeah I’m sorry about that, streaming services have been canceling alot of animated series lately and even worse they have removed them from the streaming platform completely. So fans can’t even go back and watch. It’s really unfortunate but hopefully they come back in some way.
And don’t worry, blue has helped so many people including myself get through things. I love blue and I love that people connect with her so much. I think that’s really cool, I just wish paramount felt the same way.

I know All Grown Up can be rather divisive with some people, but I'm on the side that likes it. I had no idea Pre-School Daze even existed until I was well into my twenties. I thought it was something that came out on Nick Jr well after I left high school and stopped watching TV, but to find out it was around as long as All Grown Up and thus when I was still technically a kid blows my mind.

I had no idea this was a thing and I’m a rugrats fan. All grown up was really good, and he’s right..I was a preteen when that aired. Smart work. It reminded me of As told by Ginger. 😊 I think rugrats could easily be remade today and do well on Netflix etc. I would like to see the same art style but with a modern twist.

I'm confused. How was this show "cancelled after three days" when the decision to turn in to a couple of specials was made years before the show even aired? You're making it seem like Nick pulled the plug IMMEDIATELY after the show premiered.

Not officially, from what I've read Paramount decided that the reboot was too niche and wanted to shift their focus to making more popular content, so they've decided to give the show (and the rest of season 2) to the Nicktoons channel.
I really wanted to make that rugrats treehouse, but I got like 3 chuckys and gave up 😢

I watched one of the episodes. It was fine, but the art style wasn't my cup of tea. I enjoyed the backdoor pilot, and it would have been fun to watch more of those in the eighth and ninth seasons of "Rugrats".

Great video. I kind of hope we do not get a reboot. Not everything needs to be rehashed. The original series had a great run, and a reboot would feel like nothing but a cash grab to me.
One more thing: i have to say the title is "All Grown Up" with no 's' at the end. First time i thought it was a misspeak and after that it was nails on a chalkboard. 🫣
