Nora your content is informative, not gimmickyâ. There is no wading through nonsense filler. I value that and appreciate your efforts. I look forward to your videos. Iâve met many ladies at the nursery and big box stores and tell them about you and Leca. Keep doing you, you are great!
Thank you! You absolutely fill my heart!
Answering the final question:
The interview out in the field was great. Never expected your daughter to suggest getting rid of all the plants especially after she said how beautiful they are. Nora, your content is top notch, the editing is superb and your honesty a true badge of character. Staying until the end of a Leca Queen video is never a struggle. Keep up the great work! đ
SerenityGardenAviary Thank you, it is really nice of you to say those lovely things. My daughter is crazy! As crazy as her mama and she does love the plants, but not so much the lecađ€Łđ€Ł
The only hook you need is good content. You already have all the hook you need. đ
That is encouraging, thank you.
For anyone wondering about succulents in LECA, yes, of course you can grow them in LECA as a substrate, considering they can root into anything⊠theyâll root into the carpet if leaf cuttings fall off, lol. I just think something like Pon is more beneficial for them, and minus the water. SoâŠyes grow succulents in LECA or Pon, but in a standard pot and water only when needed. With heavily diluted nutrient solution, because theyâre not in soil⊠Long story short, use the substrate, but just donât do semi hydro for them. The catch with succulents is, sadly, the water reservoir! They will rot; if not right away, in time⊠they canât handle a reservoir of water & concentrated pool of nutrients at their roots. They donât need the fertilization or the hydration that badly. They may initially thrive but succulents tend to do REALLY well, say, after a few days of heavy rain; inevitably, some will do TOO well at soaking up the water and rot.
Iâd say save your valuable LECA for plants that thrive in a semi hydro environment.
Sure, you can rehydrate dried succulent cuttings in water (for a day or several), and theyâll root out great; itâs not a long-term thing for them! Itâs not what they desire. So thenâŠwhy waste the LECA ya know? Succulent leaves are like a camelâs hump. Their genetics make them a living reservoir! If you look at something like a ponytail palm (Beaucarnea sp.) or Madagascar palm (Pachypodium), anything with a caudex especially is a great example of water storage. In times of dry weather, they really rely on their own energy stores. So the semi hydro setup leads to mushy, rotten succulents. Sorry for the long winded rant hahaha
Dear Erik, again I say, thank you for watching and taking the time to write your comprehensive very educational comments. I look forward to reading your comments everytime I publish a video as I know you will have an interesting take on it. I truly appreciate you. Thank you.
I never tried pon. Curious.
đđđ always on the floor
đđđ not no child of mine. Sound like my family đđđ too cute
Nora, you do a wonderful job of making your Q & As interesting, informative and fun. I wouldnât change a thing đâ€
Oh thank you!
Always look forward to Noraâs Questions and Answers videos. Learn so much and anticipate watching more. â€
Once again your information is so on point. Proof that being a âplant parent â is not as easy as some folks think. The one thing I donât regret is transferring my plants from soil to Leca. Now Iâm focusing on lighting especially with the winter months approaching. Based on your info I am on the right track. Much gratitude to you for taking time to share your thoughts with all of us. Keep them coming. đđż
Thank you Alfreda, I always look forward to reading your comments!
Nora, you are the best so far in your delivery of plant care information. I'm always trying to soak up plant information without all that no-nonsense talk and unnecessary fillers so I watch your videos cause you keep it real so thank you so much for your time to share all this plant information...just so helpful. Thank you for keeping it simple!
Wow, thank you! That really made my morning.
I'm watching all threw, without having any plant in leca đ. It's very interesting and helpful, also for care in soil . Greetings from Germany
So nice of you, thank you!
You're doing a great job educating us! Apart from experience based knowledge, I find good editing, a sense of humor and sincerity, to be the things that keep me coming back to "hang out" with a CZcamsr repeatedly. A perfect example is the interview you made with your daughter.
You are too kind. Thank you very much. It is a tough gig but I am enjoying the learning and hanging out with you fantastic folks. đ đ
I think you are a delight to watch as is. Love the litte playful segments, like your interview with your child. Maybe do some segments geared toward kids and parents engaging with plants together?
This was so informative. I bought a black velvet off a local fb plant lady. She mentioned it was in leca and I could buy as is or she could sell bare root. I choose leca and it was best decision. She gave me a jar of nutrient solution to get me started and now I have all my alocasias in leca. The newest leaf in leca is huge. Itâs a slow process for now but maybe in near future Iâll move my Hoyas. Your baby is adorable.
I am so glad you fell into leca that way and that you were willing to give it a try. All I can say is that your Hoyas will love it!
Great Video! (And the baby voice is so sweet, thank you for keeping them private. ) I use timers. I think i may replace the purply caste bulb with a white caste. The purple hue in the early am alerts my neighbors that "something" is growing. And i dont like that.
Thank you! Yes the purple, blue and red colours sometimes give a different impression đ
A hook? I watch because of the content. What does Y/T want - a singing, dancing Norah? I donât see any other plant channels with anything different than the title.
I live in the gloomy N.E. Of Scotland - (latitude the same as Moscow). I have my grow light on from 6am until 8.30 pm. When the clocks change, I will stop at 8pm. Why? Because if itâs too bright, I canât relax so Iâm sure the plants canât eitherđ€ Grow lights have made a WORLD of difference to my plants and I can now go into Winter knowing that my babes will be happyđđ»đđ»đđ»
Hereâs a giggle for you Norah. I moved all my special plants into one room and have started drying my smalls on the radiator there. I figure that it will raise the humidity, so, 2 birds with 1 stone⊠đ
Ooooo, a question for you. Would you move a Ficus Tineke that has been rooted in water, into Leca?
You certainly gave me a giggle. I love the ingenuity, of drying your smalls đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł. Whatever raises that humidity! I love growlights and can not speak highly enough about them. They are such a game changer. About your Ficus, yeah into leca it goes! And yes, YT does want a singing, dancing Nora! Not sure my kids would like that!đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
@@TheLecaQueen Thank you! I appreciate the reply when youâre so busyâ€ïž Iâve been thinking about the hook thing. An animated plant/pot? Animated Leca? Ask your kiddos to draw something?
I would be so sad if the Q&Aâs stopped! Nobody else can answer our questions like you do because they donât go into any detail. If I wanted generic and boring, I would go to Wikiđđ
Nora you don't need a "hook" to keep us watching. YOU are the hook. No gimmicks needed.
You are too good to me!
Haha..I love "Nora out in the field"...kids are brutally honest đđ
She was so harsh!I was not expecting that comment as the segment was not rehearsed.
Awesome vid Nora...yet again! With plants that dont like living in my house I just plant them in my garden and they thrive there!đ
I love watching and listening to these in the background during my work day. I always take something away from your videos that I can't wait to try on my plants. Still so jealous of your orbifolia - she looks amazing. About to transition my ZZ props in leca and hope they all flourish. Thank you again and please keep making more of these videos!!
mmgrafx1 Thank you! I certainly will continue, I love it and love sharing what I know, learning from you guys and us growing together.đ
Hi plant friend!! I haven't grown any succulents in Leca before, but I have grown succulents in Lechuza pon and with a lot of success so I don't see why Leca wouldn't work also. For those who are interested, I think your best bet is to water propagate and then transfer into your Leca or pon. I've grown them in self-watering pots and the roots have gone crazy! I've never seen succulent roots grow the way that they have for me after using semi-hydro. I don't typically use the water reservoir system (although I have at times without issue) and will just give them a flush when I notice the leaves are starting to wrinkle. If you want to use a clear vessel then I would suggest using clear plastic cups and making a few holes at the bottom, especially since most succulents are fairly small and wouldn't need a standard-sized pot. Nora, I think you do a great job at teaching and showing people that they shouldn't ever be afraid to experiment with new things, especially when it comes to plants. Experimenting through trial and error is the only way you are truly going to learn and start to see any results!
Hello Zack, I truly appreciate the long and thoughtful contribution. I have certainly taken a few things away from your comment as I am sure many others have and will. Thank you. Experimenting is the only way to go. No one can really tell anyone what todo. We give ideas and that isit, my environment is different from yours and what works for me might notworkfor you and the only way to know is to try!
Save the best for last and tell watchers that is what you are going to do. I always watch to the end of yours!
I donât think you could do this type of Q&A video much better. You have covered so many important topics and given very good explanations, I stumbled across this video by accident (you could say) and initially thought it was going to be about grow lights, but Iâm so glad I kept watching. Iâve learned so much and will definitely watch some more Q&A videos. Thanks for making this video super interesting, thereâs not much more I could add.
Q & A Recommendation: "chunk" information by grouping the questions into categories. Then push out multiple Q & A's in short snippets (less than ten minutes in length) on various topics.
Overall, this vlog was informative (learning about Leca) and entertaining (the family interview)đȘŽđ
Thanks for the idea! I really like it. đ
The interview! Lol, so cute.
Your majesty!! The princess has betrayed you!!đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł get rid of the leca!! I died laughing!!
I know right!!! Off with her head!! đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Hi Nora, you are lovely as always. Your content is valuable. You are the hook đȘ! I always know I will learn something new from your videos. Were you a teacher in a former life? Youâre energy is infectious. Thank you again for sharing.
Melissa, thank you! I was not a teacher but love the teaching process and love explaining things as simply as I can. I believe a good foundation is the basis for anything. Unfortunately for me, I need to play the CZcams game I want to grow. It is a fine line between gimmick and interest! I hope I do not cross it.
I find your videos so informative!! Today I am running my plant lights during the day, as you suggested. I am wondering about the costs for using Leca versus soil? Your plants are beautiful! Also, from your videos, using Leca does not keep pests away. Could you also address pest prevention?
You're the best! So glad I discovered your channel. I enjoy your enthusiasm and learning from you. Keep it up. Cheers.
Why thank you Suzanne.đ Thank you for watching and subscribing.
Love your earrings!! So fitting!
Thank you!! đ
Wow, those earrings đ and backdrop đ„°
I use timers for my lights in Serenity Garden and in the Serenity Aviary for the birds. There are several timers that step on, step off. For the birds, the are quiet /asleep until first timer turns on. Towards the night, the timers turn off in steps to let them know it's time for bed. Same for the plants. First light timer on 5:20 am, last one off at night 8pm. Now that we are in Autumn, will adjust timers to turn on 6am, off 6pm. Electric is included in rent, so I go full load.
Removed Thanksgiving Cacti and French Lavender taken out of the Spa Garden moved to an area with natural light which will continue to diminish as we approach Christmas.
You are so lucky you don't have to pay for power! My husband is always mortified when the bill comes!!! I love your step off timers!
@@TheLecaQueen yes, I can relate to your husband's shock đČ. In a former life as a caregiver, I remember the water bill, the gas bill and the electric bill. Mother wanted it warm at all times so that meant higher bills during winter. Now with it all included in the rent, I can keep it tropical without worrying about the fluctuations. And it's just me now with the birds, so it is warm and bright đ âšïž. What a blessing to have such big beautiful tropical plants on moss poles. You, dear Queen, are an inspiration!
I love your content! And I NEED those earrings đđđ
PS the interview with your little one was adorable đ
Thank you so much!!
Love the earrings and your accent!
You are too kind. Thank you đ
You are truly amazing! Thank you for your awesome knowledge and great personality! đđŻ
I appreciate that! Thank you.
Great science class!! You are such a wonderful inspiration â€ïž
Thank you so much! I was in 2 minds about putting the science class in but I think it is important to establish the context, the why.
Great video!
Thanks!
Thanks!!! I love your videos â€ïž
I'm so glad!
Lol, so adorable! My sons didn't care so much for the house plants growing up but they're now plant a Daddy!
So funny! They were absorbing the planty vides, they just didn't know it! đ€Łđ€Łđ
@@TheLecaQueen lol, so true!
Honestly, I'm looking 4 info. I don't grow in semi-hydro but I am trying out moss poles & I have 3 'go-to's' for moss poles for which u r 1. I love ur take on them!
I'm looking for knowledge bassed on experience, honesty (the good, the bad, the beautiful & the ugly) & for reality. Simply, ideas 2 make my plants thrive better & better.
Maybe I'm being egotistical but knowing that no one can give me ABSOLUTE advice for my plants in my enviroment with my conditions & the fact that since I can accept that I can only gather knowledge & experiment using different methods from others & try 2 incorporate others suggestions in2 my situation & tweak them here & there 2 acheive the best results for my plants.
How-ever, I love, love, LOVED the bit where u interviewed ur daughter & had fun with whatever came out of her mouth in response! THAT WAS PRICELESS!
Thank you 4 the entertainment Baby girl & Mama, keep up the great work! đ€ ur channelâŁ
Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate them. Thank you for loving my work. And you my friend have the right idea, at the end of the day all we are doing as content creators is giving you our experience. you just need to try things out and find out what works for you. Have you seen this video where I talk in more detail about moss poles: czcams.com/video/d4GM7cn8BME/video.html
Never thought of putting an African Violet in lecca!!! Need to try this, as I always killed them before!
Love it! I always stay to the end because youâre engaging and I would absolutely listen to you for 2 hoursâŠ. I have a lot of plants to water while I listen to you talking about plants đȘŽ love your 6 year old. My 6 year old has put his foot down on more than one occasion and declared âNo more plants!â But he only really cracked it when a plant made its way into his toy corner and got in the way of his trucks parking against the wallđ so I moved that one. Otherwise we live in a jungle đ
You can not have plants in the play area!!! That was just asking for trouble. My kids never let me go to plant shops except the one that has a Cafe. I bribe them with breakfast then I go plant shopping .đ€Łđ€Ł
Great informative video Nora! Hope that dear child remembers to put away the Lego pieces after he finishes playing with them! They hurt as well when you step on them! đ”âđ«đ©đđ she is so precious! â€ïž Natalie
Thank you Natalie, and no, she does not pick up after herself! Karma for her!!!
Thank you so much for showing your violets. I converted one of my minis today to see how it does using your method. Now I think Iâm going to do the rest. The only thing is I can only seem to get ccs and foliage focus here in the US. So Iâm going to have to figure out what to use for my blooming plants
All the best!
đ
Thank you!
I love your videos, I really enjoy this one with your boy, that was adorable. I play your videos in the morning usually while Iâm doing plant chores. Before the kids get up. Maybe do a video on what CZcams wants or add it in. I canât speak for everyone but I literally know nothing about how CZcams works or how to help your channel. Like should we write âlove itâ just quick on a video if we donât have lots to say. Sometimes I watch commercials cuz I heard that helps get the CZcamsr paid but I donât even know if thatâs true. Lol
Your doing wonderful. Keep up the great work. You could try to also have a link for things to buy if your not in Australia? Iâm in Canada and when your video comes on my daughter yells âthe queenâ sheâs 2. I have CZcams on playback during the day while we play cuz I donât want cartoons on all the time.
Your comment is gold. Thank you for the encouraging words. CZcams wants people to watch the video for a long time, like it, and comment. So even a that was great or a smiley face is ok as it is you engaging with the content. I do have some links but it is hard to recommend things I have not used so I don't have too many. Thank you for watching and being a great supporter and say hello to your 2 year old. đ Tell her the queen says hi đ âș.
Nora, Nora! You brought tears to my eyes! I have been trying to grow my favorite, African violets, for over 30 years!! Leca? Wow! I am going right now to order a couple and try them out in leca. I have moved 90% of my hoyas to leca and they're doing fine! Your hoya compacta is beautiful! That dark and light coloring. Thank you for the grow light tips. Winter's around the corner. Look forward to ur next vid! Dee, New York
Hey Dee! If I brought tears to your eyes then my job here is done! Yes, African Violets in leca. You have encouraged me to do an African violet video, soil to leca and care. Is this something you would like to see?
@@TheLecaQueen definitely me and my aunt!
"Nora the Queen of Leca Haters". Also, I would love to have a 2 hour Q&A session with you.

I think all your content is great just how it is, so I can't really suggest any ways to make it better.
I always watch til the very end and usually comment. I don't shate because I really don't know anyone that grows houseplants, as crazy as that is! LOL
I guess I can only say, be persistent and keep up the good work! đ
Thank you! Persistence is my middle name!!! It is all about the long game.
Itâs me again đ„ž As a viewer I can only suggest just keep being yourself! You are unique and have your own style! You are smart, attention to detail, interactive and very funny. thatâs what I love about âyouâ. đ Natalie

@@TheLecaQueen Itâs a date! Except I have a lot of succulentâs and some cacti as well! đ€Łđ”đȘŽ
You are most welcome to have tea/coffee under a huge weeping mulberry tree! â€ïžđČ
Wow, your African Violet it HUGE! I canât get over the size of the leaves and blooms. Iâve only grown miniatures, until just recently, so my frame of reference is limited. A few months ago, I started several trailing African violets from seeds. They are doing well but I definitely need to repot them. After seeing how well your AV is doing, I am going to transfer mine to LECA.
You should. They love leca. You have me the idea of doing a dedicated African violet video. It is coming soon.
I just found you! I tried leca for a couple of my plants but not like how you are doing it. I'm placing them directly in a glass jar. I'm now learning that's not the correct way but my plants are thriving this way so I don' t know if I want to change over. I may wait to see if they start to go downhill. I am loving all your content! Your Q and A are very much appreciated.
Welcome!! So happy to have you here!âș
Thank you so much for answering my ? regarding grow lights & time change. I have adjusted the timing. Your explanation was excellent & scientific. Which makes we want to ask: Where have you received all your knowledge from? I need to be more dedicated to flushing....you reap what you sow!!
You are very welcome Dolly, and thank you for asking the question. I am so glad my explanation was what you needed. I have spent a fair bit of my time in school, quite a lot actually, alot of it science based so have a pretty goodbase.I do need to brush up on a few things though. I think understanding why we need to do things in a certain why really helps with anything and that is where we can begin to innovate because we understand the basics. Yes you and I both need to flush more!
Just jumping on again to say about succulents. The only ones I have in Leca is a couple of Jade plant varieties and they are doing well. Canât speak for other varieties
Thank you đ
Awesome video and very informative...what type of grow lights are you using ...where can they be purchased
So nice of you. Check out this video that shows what I use and a discount code in the description. Enjoy. czcams.com/video/CuQHzpgKncw/video.html

Your zz plant looks amazing! I'm just wondering. I know some people put sugar into cut flower water. Can glucose powder or sugar be added to the water used to water plants?
Hello, thank you. I love my ZZs. I grow my plants in leca and they need specific nutrition. I would not put sugar as a plant does not use sugar in the sense that we know to grow. I would recommend only using products that have been manufactured for plants as the elements that the plant needs are in the correct proportions. Check out this video where I talk about plant nutrition.
czcams.com/video/jw5XnLYxCgk/video.html
hello. I'm just wondering where you buy your white slotted containers?
Do you think scuria volcanic rocks could replace leca? I can't find where to get leca.
Hello TheLecaQueen!
My plants are in front of a window. At night a latern pole from the street shines on them. Is this bad and does it prevent the glucose making?
No hook needed for you. You could talk about most anything and I'm listening!
You are too kind Wendy!
Whatâs the name of the plant you had at âTransferable LRCA Lessons? Itâs beautiful!
Do you mean the Hoya? It is a Hoya carnosa compacta. It has variegated versions as well.
Hi Nora, have you grown Caladium at all? Can they grow in Leca you think? Thank youâ€â€â€
Yes I have. I have a Caladium that survived winter that I will be showing off soon, as soon as I can go take a photo.
One more thing⊠itâs not semi-hydro, but for succulents, I say sphagnum moss is the best. And for Peperomia and bromeliads too. And all aroids hahaha. But seriously. Let it dry out, between waterings, and itâs the ideal aerated yet moisture-retaining substrate.
Thanks Erik. What vessel do you put your moss and plant combo and how dry is dry?
I just bought a pepperomia piccolo.i did not realize it is a semi succulent and I don't have much success with them. I can't seem to get the watering correct. It is currently in the nursery pot with what looks like just soil. Would you advise potting it into a new mix with spagnum moss. As it's now November and 20° c when my heating is off I'm not sure if I should atm..
Hi Nora. In the fall and winter time don't you think the plants needs more light? I give light 24-7
My apartment is small and a little dark.
I don't think you should have your lights on 24/7 because of the reasons I have mentioned in the video. Try it and see how your plants go, they might surprise you.
Thanks for the link Nora!!!
Hi Queen I love watching you plus I have a African Plant someone give me where do you get the one for flowering solutions. From I would like to try that Can you tell me where to get it from
Hey Dorethea, I hope you are good. You probably can not find it in the US but ask the hydroponics shops for nutrients that help blooming or flowering and they should be able to help you.
Ok thank you
What is Lieke?
How did you convert your Hoya Compacta? I've had success when I transferred one Vine to leca , but I tried a whole plant and it died. I have a small variegated Compacta and I want it in leca but if I lose it I can't afford to just replace it. So I have one shot .. helpđą
I took the soil off and put in leca with no trouble at all.
I just did that with one of my plants .I try everything within my power but that plant will not tribe so out she goes because I want to enjoy my plants I donât need to keep it
Exactly Ella, if a plant refuses to be happy then out it goes! Ain't nobody got time for dat!
Sooo I only have my plants under their grow lights for about 8 hours, is that bad? I turn them on when I wake up and turn them off during dusk. Also I have a instead aurea in leca and itâs doing very very well to the point that the roots are trying to climb out of the self watering pot đ
Sounds like a good plan to me. As long as your plants are happy.
@@TheLecaQueen thank you đ your videos help me with my leca journey! Is there a brand of leca that you recommend?
I have a question. How do you keep the leaves so clean and free of dust? Do you wipe them down regularly or spray them off in the shower? I can't imagine trying to stay on top of so many large plants without them growing cobwebs and dust bunnies lol. đȘŽđ
Hey Vanissa! Everytime I am flushing I give the plants a shower and wash the leaves. I could not clean those leaves one by one!đđđ
I.... had no idea african violets could get so big! You, madam, are a blessing. đ« Also so glad to see a parent blur their child.
Thank you. đ. I believe my channel is for me. My kids can make their own decisions about being on camera when they are much older. A blurred cameo or 2 is an exception đ
