    Nah, air molecules are very tiny and can get down through the leca just as well in a glass jar as in a submerged pot with holes on the side. :) Also, if I buy a cold drink in an outdoors bar in summer, I will get a lot of condensation on that glass. That's not because this outdoors bar is badly ventilated but because of humidity. ^^

      The comments I hear about oxygen not making it to the roots in a no drainage setup does give me pause (not picking on one person because it’s commonly mentioned). If oxygen wasn’t making it to my plant’s roots, how have my plants been growing so well for years in vessels without holes? And never mind that, the most common way people grow plants indoors is in pretty dense soil in pots with a limited number of holes for drainage that are blocked by saucers most of the time. I made the move from more traditional setups because I wanted more growth and I was over the maintenance of emptying saucers. I’m so glad I did. My maintenance decreased and my plants grow better. I do think the net pot approach is likely best for the widest range of plants and is most likely to result in the most rigorous growth but not everyone needs super rigorous growth. Moderate growth, in easy to find inexpensive vessels, that look nice is nice. And the other drawbacks can be easily managed. But either way, I’m glad there are options.

    I use small river rocks but big enough that they cannot come through the mesh. It works very well as it also stabilize the pole in the pot. It is so easy the put the pole in as nothing rolls off like the clay balls. Once the pole is in there, fill the pot with the balls. I think you will find it less annoying to do it this way.

  • @hennesseyme9112
    @hennesseyme9112 Před 23 hodinami

    I found some premade poles and ordered a set to try them. I don't care for moss pole, but some plants need them. I am putting my monsteras on poles. You make your poles; I purchase the plastic ones and fill it. I am not diligent like you. Also found coco poles does nothing put stabilize the plant. They are useless otherwise and wish move vids will come out on why you should not purchase them.

    • @erikm8372
      @erikm8372 Před 18 hodinami

      In my experience, it doesn’t even matter if a pole is premade or DIY and handmade by myself… the fact of the matter that I have noticed is moss poles are sort of counterproductive. They can work, and clearly do work, but only when the plant ALLOWS it. 😂 What do I mean? If you think about the jungle, or a forest, vines grow up trees, yes? What are trees made of? Wood. Bark. Not sphagnum moss. And even the branches on the trees that are covered in moss aren’t COMPLETELY and ONLY composed of moss. There’s the bark underneath. Moss poles seem very unsupportive to me, and I’ve only experienced ONE plant do well on one, that was a _Monstera adansonii_ on a pole I made. But it was a PVC pipe that I glued sheet sphagnum around. The roots were attracted to the actual pole, the PVC, not the moss. Just the same, in the jungle, vines attach to the textured bark of tree trunks and climb towards the light. Pure moss or coco coir isn’t enough to stabilize a vine, whether it’s a mature plant or a baby. For comparison, I have a standard heartleaf philodendron that I made a moss pole for in 2019… well, it never attached. Haha. Now I have a hanging arrangement with a six foot pole sticking out of it. The roots simply wouldn’t attach to the moss. They need something hard and sturdy. We see people with pothos, Epipremnum, etc. growing indoors on the walls, on buildings, on wood planks, etc. and they seem to do so well. Because it’s simulating a TREE. Moss does no such thing. At least in my experiences. And keeping the poles moist just keeps the roots from attaching even longer. The tips of the roots are sticky, if you feel them. Sticky can’t adhere to wet. Again, this is simply my experience…I’ve switched from moss poles to planks and PVC. Without moss! And guess what…the plants stick to the PVC like crazy, they love it! People ask about nutrition, but again, what about the pothos climbing around my bedroom walls?

      @@erikm8372 What about mixing media? I mixed moss with tree fern fiber last week and my Cebu Blue roots are acting like they are competing in a race. I made that one, myself with only moss and a plastic backing since I had it hanging around? Someone on YT make hers with laminate and tape by folding the laminate around the moss and plant and then tape it down and it works. Very fast and easier to water.

      For me it depends on the plant. Some grow very well for me in enclosed vessels with a mix of treen fern vermiculite and others I strictly keep in leca with drainage. If I could I would move them all to leca but alas I am not the Leca Queen😂

    90% of my large collection are in glass no drainage. I use grow in drainage pots and have had much better growth with no drainage. Even my clarinervium and snake plants love it. Gone are my crispy anthuriums. Leca reservoir on the bottom and pon or soiled mix on the top. I even mix some spag in with the pon.

    What I find difficult in the no drainage setup is flushing. Also, algae… but that happens even in the submerged with drainage setup, if the pots are clear.

    My monstera is growing in a big glass jar roots are so healthy, no smell, no algae’s, I do not put any sauce fertilizer. I also have Leica net pot and reservoir growing well without any fertilizer. In Canada having short summer, still growing well near my patio windows. I give bath evert 3 weeks.

    Agree completely. Might be cute for a short-term table center piece, but definitely not for long-term living.

    Hello Nora! I have been following you for about 10 months. I did transition my plants to leca and some are doing great, but I have lost some during my journey,.. I am struggling to keep my money tree alive. Any suggestions for an specific pot to help this poor tree ????

      Hello, thank you for the support. As you will know from my videos, keeping a plant alive and happy is a marriage of many things, not just the medium of the pot or the nutrient, but others things like light, humidity, temperature, pests etc. I would love to help, but the information you have provided is too general. Please hop onto my Facebook group and tell us all about your plant, how you take care of it, where it lives, what set up it is in and show us some pictures and we can go from there.

    I have peace lillies & anthuriums in glass jars with leca & they're THRIVING. But not all plants enjoy so much water. So i think it depends on the plant.

    I don't know why, but all my peperomias died. I even cut the bulb into pieces and tried to start over - and it worked! - it grew roots and some tiny leaves... but then it just died again :( . I would love to see the tutorial how to take a proper care of peperomias.
