  • STEVIA EXTRACT RECIPE:
    1. Fill an 8 oz. (Half Pint) canning jar loosely to the top with crushed stevia leaves (Fresh or dried, but not powdered).
    2. Fill to the top with approximately 200 Ml of Vodka.
    3. Place lid on tightly and store in a dark place for 24-48 hours.
    4. Strain and bottle. (This will keep the alcohol content in it and last indefinitely on the shelf.)
    or
    Strain into small sauce pan and simmer (Do not boil) for 10-15 minutes to evaporate alcohol content and concentrate the extract.
    Bottle and store in the refrigerator for use within 3-5 months.
    or
    Follow the above recipe but substitute freshly boiled hot water for the Vodka. This version will last 3-5 weeks in the refrigerator.

    I'm highly allergic to any type of alcohol... Every time I drink it I have very bad things happen. Mentally, physically, and spiritually... :0( I praise God for setting me free of a 43 year addiction to alcohol. It's been 16 years and counting since Jesus set me free and gave me a brand new life. And HE has taught how to handle life's upsets without booze. It hasn't been a easy road to walk on, BUT I know Jesus is right beside me while I'm going through the rough times. Trust you me there have been a lot of rough times. God never promised us a easy road, but HE did promise to be right there with us as we walk the road called life... Be blessed.... BBE..

      She went to great lengths to emphasize that the alcohol is evaporated OUT of the liquid. Unfortunately, the only thing that "virtue-signaling" alkies can hear is VODKA. Rational people who are alcoholics, know the difference between the alcohol in a bottle of cough syrup and a three day bender.

    • @northeasttexasgardener
      @northeasttexasgardener Před 3 lety +1

      @@fazbell No, she said boiling off the alcohol was an option. With the alcohol, the extract is shelf stable, and without the alcohol it must be refrigerated.

    I'm a diabetic trying to go keto (ish). I'm also having a hard time finding things like stevia here in Ukraine, but the quest goes on and I have some leads. We also have a (wannabe) homestead in Maine and will be trying to grow this and other herbs and veggies this summer (our first year together on our farm).
    Call it "the unction" but I decided to start searching for stevia here at YTU and yours was one of the first channels to come up. So glad I stopped by for a visit.
    A beautiful and unashamed Godly woman and spot on advise and homestead howto to boot. You are a true Blessing.

    So pleased with the results of this extract process. Made about a quart of stevia extract from 4 oz. of dried stevia. Nasty green color but works great for my tea and homemade Greek yogurt. ordered dropper bottles from amazon to dispense my stevia extract. I saved the soaked stevia leaves to try adding to dried green tomato artisan bread . . . just for fun. thank you.

    It is easier to use 97% Reb A powder, water and grain alcohol. The resultant liquid can be twice as sweet as sweet leaf. Just use 3-6 grams of Reb A powder to 1.5 ounces 80 proof vodka. You can dilute it with a few more drops of water since the best solubility is 30% alcohol. 80 proof vodka is 40%. I use grain alcohol/water since I always have it on hand for other uses. Easy. One 100 gram bottle of Reb A powder yields 25 ounces of liquid or 6 bottles of Sweet Leaf. Approximately $7 per bottle.

    Did you know that although stevia is a plant, an awesome one, you can cause adrenal fatigue if you consume a large amount daily? What happens is this: when your tongue tastes sweet your brain signals to your body that it is about to receive a boost of energy. With stevia there is no boost of energy like with raw sugar, maple syrup or local honey. I am not talking about daily use in coffee, tea or an occasional “goodie”. There are many people eating a ketogenic diet laden with substitute sweeteners that are hurting their adrenals. I have always wanted to make my own but have been a little intimidated until NOW. I only buy the Sweet Leaf brand and you are correct..it is expensive! I am a sweet nut too and my 15-18 oz. cup of coffee contains 30-35 drops along with a teaspoon or two of Erythritol. I am off all sugars in my coffee and tea which was a total weakness for me in the past. Now I can save money by DIYing this myself to get that sweet taste with no bitterness! SO glad to find your channel!

      I wondered the same thing and found the answer to our question on this site www.leaf.tv/articles/how-do-i-remove-the-alcohol-from-drinks/-Bring the liquid to a simmer then adjust the heat as necessary to keep your beverage simmering gently. Do not boil the drink, as this will cause too much of the liquid to evaporate before the alcohol burns off and you will be left with an empty pot.
      I hope this helps you as much as it did me.
      God bless

    Hey sis!! This is so perfect!!! I've always wanted to know how to do this!!! I'm so grateful for this video ..I can't wait to try it!! I have a couple of questions please? What size Sweet Leaf bottle is that? I've never bought one larger than 2 oz. and the bottle you are holding looks larger than that? My second question is, do you think we could add flavoring to them from Vanilla or different flavored extracts? I love the flavored ones, especially the Raspberry flavor that I can't get too often from Amazon from a company in Iceland called "Good Good". They have raspberry, strawberry and grape, but it's my favorite because I don't taste any bitterness at all in those products, even though I like Sweet Leaf Stevia drops and buy those too. Thank you!!

    Is it safe for diabatic patient ?

      Stevia-based sweeteners are calorie-free and have been shown to have little to no impact on blood sugar, making them excellent sugar substitutes for people with diabetes. It's the same for monk fruit sugar. I'm also diabetic.

    Can you mix stevioside powder with vodka instead of water?

    So the stevia becomes bitter after 48 hours in the absolute vodka , then would the stevia you stashed back in the fridge and cook down later be bitter as well ?

    I always share with my daughter and she shares with her sisters. It's easy to share, so why not?

    Kinda a contrition saying only leave it sitting for no more than 48hours or it becomes bitter then say make several batches and leave em in the pantry til you’re ready to use them

    Just curious, is it cheaper to buy it already made or to make it yourself?

    • @PREPSTEADERS
      @PREPSTEADERS  Před 5 lety +3

      It is certainly cheaper if I make it myself. The one caveat is that I never make mine quite as strong as the store bought so I do end up using a little bit more. It is perhaps one 4th of the price of store bought.

    I wonder if Everclear could be used, rather than vodka. Part of the bitterness may be coming from the taste of the vodka. In contrast, Everclear has almost no taste profile.

      I use everclear for all of my tinctures and extracts, unless I’m using vegetable glycerin. I have no idea about the bitterness issues for this application. I wouldn’t use glycerin in this application but it has the ability to become super saturated so it’s handy for other tinctures.

      William Mills From what I understand, Everclear is generally diluted when preparing an infusion, rather than being used at bottle strength.

    Doesn’t the vodka add a different kind of sugar that illicits an insulin response?
