I purchased one year of Contabo VPS few weeks ago, due to this video. Yesterday many Contabo VPS (mine included) were down for more than half a day. It is NOT a serious company.
i also heard that if someone tries to ddos you, contabo takes away the server. so apparently they have no protection either lol
yup, it's not reliable at all, happened at the worse time for me. 3 days in a row (Germany server). No notifications. It's using a very old system I think.

I have been with Contabo for about 5 years now. The real problem with it is it's shared vCPU. I have recently been experiencing bussy node syndrome meaning I have to reboot my VPS every hour or so since someone is hogging resources. If you can get on a non bussy node Contabo is worth it for an amazing deal, I as of late have been hitting against this a lot. In general avoid shared CPU's as they tend to get oversold. I'm seriously considering moving to an VDS to avoid this issue.

@@davidepattibiomed89these are more so luxury items. You only pay for them if you or your customers need them. I've been using letsencrypt for free ssl for years. As well as I'm able to manage my hosting needs via ssh, but there are also free to use panels out there. You are paying a premium for ease of use. Also keep in mind that a piece of the panel pie needs to be kick backed to the panel maker. It's a lot cheaper on a small scale then hiring a webmaster, if it really is an issue you can take a few days to learn the required skills to use an linux shell.

Okay, I can look into this. The 200MB/sec is simply the maximum speed at which data can come into and leave your VPS.

There's no comparision here, you need to rent these VPS and actually test them. While Contabo is incredible value, they do heavily overprovision by about 80%, meaning you will almost always be fighting for resources. Not dissing them, but this isn't a good comparison.
They ban Crypto servers too. Although you can use it for the rest and it's a good option.
Hello Tony. I would like to some benchmarking to know how Contabo VPS Intel CPU-s compared to Hetzner AMD EPYC. Also i major drawback i considered the lack of automated backups options you get one Hetzner and VPS restore with one click with up to 7 backups retained during a week and outside you VPS enviroment.

@@TonyTeachesTech I am not sure if there are a mainstream/well-known and dedicated Singaporean VPS/hosting company, since I'm not a Singaporean myself. But for Asia region, every major cloud company has Singapore as their sole Asia region service (while in Europe for example, they have bunch of data centers in a different location).
The major company that has Singapore includes Vultr, DigitalOcean, Linode, Google Cloud, UpCloud, etc.
I feel like everything has to be Singapore-centered (from every Asian online games server, to web-applications) even though there are now multiple commercialized data centers that I can think of.
That includes China (mainly monopolized by Alibaba cloud) and one in Jakarta (Fairly new like, BiznetGio.co.id) or even in Australia (but to be fair they are geographically so far from everyone else lol).
I am always wondering, is it true that Singapore's cloud infrastructures or data center is better for Asian in general? I am sorry if I am missing something.
Tips: I heard that UpCloud has the best Singapore VPS since they claimed to have a superior Storage performance and Compute performance than basically everyone else.
Hopefully you can help Asian out with this one, sorry if this turned out to be a full essay lol, and pardon my English.
@@TonyTeachesTech updates: Digital ocean has Singapore and Mumbai India data centers. Vultr has Korea, Japan and Singapore, Google Cloud has Taiwan, Singapore, Hongkong, Japan, Korea, and Jakarta.
Maybe you can start by comparing this different available locations, but still everyone else mainly has singapore for asia server. Only the giant cloud company seems to have at least 2 options for Asia region.

No. These are mostly used for "headless" servers that you only interact with them via a web browser or command line.

I think I looked into this, but this information wasn't public. I would have to do a speed test or ask their customer service.
Side note: unless you have streaming or loads of concurrent users, this limit won't matter much
Vultr depending on the location you get ranges from 1gigabit shared port to 10gigabit shared port, the faster locations for network are Dallas and Miami
After your checks which would VPS can you say has CPU is 3GHz+, disk reads are 2GB/s+, an writes 1GB/s+ for best performance
I don't know as I did not track these metrics

In their plan VPS M they offer 6 vCPU Cores and from what I understand, a vCPU is a virtual CPU and actually, one CPU core could contain several vCPU, does it matter, or am I overthinking this?

Forgot some important things to mention. Nearly all of them have strong issues on ddos security and nulling ips on regular base. Furthermore accounts have been suspended without proper warning. I personally wouldn’t use any of them for mission critical applications.

@@TonyTeachesTech Firstly out of own experience and here in Germany, they do not have the highest reputation. The issue accrues usually over a longer time span. If you search a little you can find numerous experiences of the same issues especially with DDOS attacks or IP'S which are spam listed. Anyway, their prices are great even though I found that the performance isn't generally as good on a VPS from them. Another huge difference is that its a way less easy on contabo to set up proper clusters or even Kubernetes. OVH you can read the same about them but I haven't been there. I have Heztner and DO at the moment. I do like Hetzner even though there are several reports of physical drives getting pulled in their german data center by the German police. I don't know for the US once, that's where I am with them.

Contabo is comparable to Vultr, but lacking in some features. Regarding performance, I have a video coming out Thursday that compares Contabo to Vultr, Linode, and DigitalOcean
having 2 PCs is it possible to transform one into a server like Contabo to access it remotely? So not in the same local network
I'm not sure I understand your question
It is possible to configure a computer like a server but you have to do the setup or pay someone to do it for you. There may also be show stoppers depending on your internet provider and router. You'll need to not be on double NAT and be allowed to open ports(port forwarding) also some ISP's straight up don't allow you to selfhost. It's going to take some learning to be able to do it. If you life in a western country it likely would cost more in opportunity cost in hours then you'd spent on renting from Contabo in the next 5 years. Also keep in mind hardware, energy and internet costs. As you are working on a very small scale you cant get good rates like these hosting providers.
Contaboo charges you 75 dollars for an SSL certificate which many competitors give out for free. I remember when I used to issue those SHA certificates "by hand".

I am afraid it’s not that easy. You are just using those information from their websites and that’s not the best comparison. Contabo f.g. charges a setup fee, while some of the others don’t. Also Contabo doesn’t guarantee the amount of RAM. They just guarantee access. So a plan with 16GB RAM doesn’t guarantee the full 16 GB all the time. It just guarantees access to 16GB which is - of course - shared with others.
BTW, Hetzner owns 4 data centers, one of them in the USA.
Contabo setup fee is $7 which is nothing compared to resources available and considering you'll be hosting on their servers for years to come!
@@talleyrand9530 Their resources are the problem here. You just get some „up to“ and nothing guaranteed. About the years to come: that’s something you could say about every provider you choose.

Contabo VPS are often under DDoS Attacks. Atleast mine is, I can see it in my logs.
When the server struggles because of a DDoS Attack (not uncommon with contabo users), the server control panel also errors and I can't restart or even shut the server down. Support ist slow, not reachable. I never published my IP, still DDoS Attacks happen, I can see it in the logs.
I need a reliable VPS, not some nice hardware VPS that has downtime of hours.

It will not be possible to hide your IP address as this needs to be public information so you can access it on the internet. Am I understand you correctly?

All providers are expensive for managed servers
so Contabo is best for europe location ... as i do not want to host in usa nor uk .... i had hosting companies in both dealing with major companies ... but tried of totalitarian control by usa
