    My grandfather worked until the day he died at 86. He could have retired at 35 if he wanted to as he had enough money. He did it because he loved it. I hope I am like that when I am older.

    I hope you noticed that he never once having to work for the money except to throw off people who can't mind their own business. A lot of old people work like this to fend off boredom. I'm 81, not bored and don't need the money but if an opportunity came along to work part time at something I really enjoyed doing, I'd jump at it.

      I don't think that's what you were supposed to get from this video. This is awful. Not the job, but the fact that at this stage in life, the best our society can offer him is this. After the war there was an understanding that if you were willing to work, there was a job to be had with reasonable benefits and good pay and when you got old you could rest and society would take care of you, and that's been taken from us. I've had elderly employees nearly break down in tears telling me how they hate their jobs and still have no financial security well into the age at which their parents were retired. And the scary part is things are probably going to be even worse for subsequent generations.

    • @freedomordeath89
      @freedomordeath89 Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah..support a company that instead of hiring 10 younger guys and thus sustaining 10 new families is hiring 10 old bored idiots who don't even care about the money and will donate all to the nearest church when they die. How cna u criticize "younger generations"? Between immigrants stealing our jobs because they are underpaid, companies making shitty part time contracts and old people REFUSING to leave their job to the new generations the situation is becoming TERRIBLE!
      This idiot is beeing SELFISH. You ar eblinded by the emotions. Think for a second. Think about the fact that this company is causing the economy to stagnate.

There's SO many older folks out there (many at this company as well) who genuinely want to continue to contribute to society through work. Some work for the social interaction as well. Rather than judge these folks or make these assumptions, try talking to them and seeing all the things you can learn from them. I know I've learned quite a lot from him.

    That's reason why 50 years old to 75 years old engineer can have rehire policy by public sector and public company or re-employment in public local government ownership enterprise! There are five reasons. First is society's responsibility. Second is working attitude very seriously. Third is financial management. Fourth is diligent and hardworking. Fifth is modest and prudent and very careful for quality of production.

    This is a major economic issue. Those jobs were supposed to all open up for the next generations 😳 we have a bottleneck going on. We need to be looking at more equations than simply the unemployment and underemployment ones. The only middle class folks I know that have been able to retire on a normal schedule (as in COULD get by on retirement alone) are government employees. And about quarter of them, minimum, are continuing to work anyway, many simply to have something to do (volunteering would be better for the economy and society as a whole). I also know several upper middle class retirees that made six figures that are continuing to work for the fun of it as well rather than volunteering. So this is another issue as those jobs should be going to the next generations.

    I've been working in some capacity since I was 15. There were nights my family ate because I'd come home with $4 or $5 from some work I'd done whether it was weeding someone's yard, cleaning, stringing necklaces to sell to the tourists, selling some artwork I'd done; I did whatever I could find.

He could easily get government subsidized senior housing, medicare, food stamps and live on his social security check. If debt is a concern, law prohibits collectors from garnishing pensions or social security checks. He could get every benefit he deserves. Its not about money for him, its purpose and socialising.

I mean, the oldies have pot guts, sure, but the younger workers have huge guts, and I had no detectable gut until I was somewhere around 40, myself. I'd say the one guy looks like he's barely out of his 20s or still 20-something, and the other guy maybe 40. I was right in my proper BMI until about 7 years ago, and with diet and exercise I'm heading right back to the sweet spot now. Keto diet for the win! But those younger guys, man, we're talking pre-diabetic if not already Type II, and when they get older, yikes.

      If anything these senior citizens should be doing these jobs just as a master teaches apprentices not as a full time gig because they need the money. They should be doing this because they love their craft and want to teach the next generation.

      It's not ethics. We were told, go put yourself in debt for an education. Get good grades, make good connections and you can get a well paying job with healthcare and enough money to buy a house and a car. We were told something that was only true for previous generations that had the luxury of not even graduating high school And still be able to afford a home.
      But we come out with our degrees in hand, repeating the promises we were made, and we are denied. We are denied jobs because fresh out of college, we don't have four or five years experience. We take non paying internships just for that experience. Companies get out free labor, touting experience as something beneficial. Well, I cant eat or pay rent with just experience can I?

      He has to spend 4 hours daily at work when he could have spent that time in a bread line. Capitalism is disgusting. Btw, do you have anything to eat tovarisch?
