    COMMUNICATIONS: One other great feature that you didn't test, was how good the cell phone works in Bluetooth. I always got compliments on how good the speaker phone was in the car. Even in the GTC with the top down at 70 mph you could talk in a normal voice and Bentley has that all figured out. For those of us that work 24/7 it is nice to be able to take calls anywhere any time.

    The reason that the GTR-3 has alcantara inserts is because the leather is too slippery for track use and the cloth grips better. That is why the Recaro seats in the Mitsubishi Evo were only available in cloth at first. The cloth does not wear as well so the Spur has all leather for durability and comfort. You also do not have the same heat and cool options with combo cloth and leather.

It really makes a statement and that's what people buying this type of car is looking for.

    Great review - you look at cars properly, in the round. Few reviewers would note the white glue at 4:42. When British and German designers and engineers work together, they can come up with stuff like this. I love the round headlamps - I used to like the Mercs when they used them. PS have you driven the VW Phaeton? Poor man's Bentley.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Před 7 lety

    SIM in the armrest is for the rear seat entertainment for data etc. As I said in my other comment, the "phone" in the armrest is not a phone but a bluetooth handset that is called a "privacy handset" so if you get a call and want to have a private conversation then other people in the car can not hear you. In most US cars, it uses the bluetooth phone that you have linked and it is just a handset in the EU it may use the SIM that the rear seat uses. Not sure.

    Stunning eyeglass frames, terrific suit, its drape and sheen, the shirt a superb match. As for the shoes and belt, well, what can be said except splendid choices, very tasteful-- what an all-together impact everything made! Very good. As for the car, something of a bust actually. Nothing about it was dazzlingly impressive, as one might otherwise have expected-- at least something about it here or there, after all, this is a Bentley. But only its grill, emblematic and timeless, still uber-impresses. The backseat refrigerator hogging, as it does, important "boo-t" space seems a silly effort to impress and the car itself, overall, not much more.

    Hi Thomas ! I really like you reviews, sadly most of the cars are too expensive to buy here in Denmark, even with a decent job. A thing you could improve is your camera man. I think your camera man should take a look on other car reviewers, here on CZcams, to get some tips and tricks. It sometimes feels, that the shots are not thought through. Keep up the good work ! • @gbriank1
    @gbriank1 Před 9 lety

    This car is loosely based on the A8L. With minor modification, the V8 comes from the S8. It has cylinder deactivation and lighter weight that reduces consumption. If I had the money, I'd go for the V8. I've heard both the V8 and W12 side-by-side. The V8 sounds much better. I like how the Haldex all-wheel-drive is standard. If equipped with an all-season tire, you can really enjoy all four seasons with no worry. Plus, no power is lost to slipping wheels. I agree with you on the navigation. Paying 200k euros, you should have the 4G unit from the A8. You are in the Mulliner model. I think there are 16 bull hides in that car.
    A bit of interesting fact. Rolls Royce receives their BMW sourced engines completely built directly from Germany. Bentley, on the other hand, assembles the entire vehicle (including engine) in Crewe.

    • @autogefuehl

    nice review Thomas.i am big fan of BENTLEY and owned several of them however i am not happy with the recent design direction . Bentley suppose to be more unique in there approach and design its becoming BOLD with excessive use of plastic and cheaper wood and leather. Lack of B hood emblem is a shame so as the sheap black exterior door pillars
    wish should of been stainless same goes for the huge plastic grill....totally un acceptable
    from BENTLEY IMHO

    Hi Thomas, A great review of a classic British Luxuary car. I think your comments about the driving experience miss the point that a Bently is designed for effortless cruising along the motorways/autobahns of the world. It's not, as you do say, a sports car, it's an extremely luxurious Grand Tourer.
    A quick question. I've noticed in several of your reviews, for British cars, this Bently, the Jaguar XE & XF, the Range Rover Evoque etc, that all the cars are left-hand-drive yet they all have UK Registration Plates, eventhough you are obviously in Germany when testing them???? Why are they not German registered, as are most of your review cars? Just curious.
    Jonathan.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Před 7 lety

      hey Jonathan, thanks for the feedback. Well the left hand drive vehicles are of course also built in the same factory, and since those are cars that are press vehicles they sometimes are directly registered to the plant itself - to express it in a simple way :)

    • @GordonMiller
      @GordonMiller Před 8 lety

      +MBS5004M there are a lot more differences between the Spur and the S-Class than just a fridge. The Bentley wins head to head contests consistently when run against S550, S55 or S63 variants. Even the S65 doesn't fair as well as the Bentley. I have owned and driven all of them and the engine in my SL65 (Twin Turbo V12) is the same as in the S65. The W12 engine is smoother, has more low end torque, and is more fuel efficient. It is also quieter, either due to cabin sound insulation or just engine management. Both are great cars, don't get me wrong, but the quality of the interior of the Bentley is light years ahead of the S-Class. The leather, wood and metal in the Bentley is superior in every way. the NAIM sound system is an insane 1,100 watts of pure perfection in the Bentley. All of these comparisons are validated on CZcams if you check other reviews.

So that the salt ocean air doesn't damage the finish, various coverings can often be applied to the cars to protect the luster of the original finish from the factory. The car just wasn't detailed fully at the time of the video. Easy enough to clean up.

    As to the delay for the push buttons on the display, I will say that it was the one aspect of my GTC that I hated. My PhD work is in Human Factors Engineering and that delay is annoying as hell. I was told by Bentley that it was done on purpose to keep people from using it while the car is in motion and also to get people to slow down and enjoy the aspect of using the system and to minimize input errors. I hear all those and I still say it is crap. I think that there is a huge delay because they have a very inefficient routine for interpreting input and a poor choice of input hardware for the screen. It is by far the biggest downside of all the Continental range, GT, GTC and Spur. Even a software upgrade could cut the delay in half. It makes using the screen while the car is in motion very dangerous. The upside is that the voice module for voice input is amazing. In the 2 years that I had my GTC I don't recall any time that it misunderstood a command. So, just use the voice input and you will love it again.

    If you're going to daily drive a car, would you take this or an S65 AMG ?

    • @autogefuehl

      +IEEM01172 Hmm... S-Class leads in technology, the Bentley arouses more attention. I probably would take an S300, S350 or S400 as these versions are also available with cloth seats!

      +Autogefühl What I dislike about the Bentley, and most uber luxury Marques (Rolls Royce, Astron martin, Ferrari ...) is that people give you dirty looks when driving, so it's not really the car's fault. An S65 can be as luxurious and quick, without making the driver look like a snob :) .
      This is a bit off topic, but is there any chance for you to review the new Dodge Viper GTS ? It's very different from most European cars, and I wanted to know what your impressions are.
      Thanks again for the reply , and keep up the good work (very insightful and entertaining reviews)

    Thomas ... i really think Bentley need to loose that enormous gear lever ...i think a it is a bit of a bother when you have to touch or press the small buttons infront of it..especially in the PARK mode.... a small round selector button like the one found in the Jaguar Ftype ...wou'd do better...

    Great review.
    The car is however really an old design. The dashboard still resembles old Phaeton (highly). The armrest with the phone and the storage underneath is exactly the same as old D2 A8s. Of course, only the FS has leather everywhere, but underneath it's the same old design.
    Also, while the engine is unnecessarily powerful, it's hung completely in front of the front axle (like all Audis / VWs / Seats / Skodas). Not really suitable for this class of cars.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Před 8 lety

    • @GordonMiller
      @GordonMiller Před 8 lety

      +goddesseddog the front half of the car is exactly the same, interior and exterior, as my 2012 Bentley GTC. The "family resemblance" to the Phaeton is not by accident but because a significant number of folks from VW who worked on the Phaeton also working on the new Continental and Spur cars. The phone is a "privacy handset" and if actually very helpful if you get a call and you don't want to share the conversation with other people in the car. As to the engine being unnecessarily powerful, this car has the same W12 engine that my GTC had and I find that the engine was quite suitable given the massive weight of the cars. I had a 2004 Bentley Arnage before this and the 6.75L V8 from that car is terrible. The compact layout of the W12 is only 3 cylinders deep vs the 4 deep on the V8 cars and as such, I find that the weight bias is desirable. A "mid-front" engine layout would have taken up way too much wheelbase and interior space and this is a suitable compromise.

    Good review but that car is overpriced, you're paying for the exclusivity, you'd get a better deal by choosing any large German sedan (A8, S-Class or 7-Series).
