  • The Everest Base Camp trek on the south side, at an elevation of 5,364 m (17,598 ft), is one of the most popular trekking routes in the Himalayas and about 40,000 people per year make the trek there from Lukla airport. Trekkers usually fly from Kathmandu to Lukla to save time and energy before beginning the trek to the base camp. However, trekking to Lukla is possible. There are no roads from Kathmandu to Lukla and as a result, the only method of transporting large and heavy goods is by plane.

    Hi Chetan, watched all your videos on EBC, awesome. It's on my bucket list too. I plan to do the solo trip to EBC using only overland travel - no flights including trek/jeep from Ktm to Lukla. I had 3 specific quesries from your videos, kindly address them to help clear my doubts:
    (1) Somewhere in your video you had mentioned the weight of your back pack was 17 Kg - isn't that way too much weight to be carrying? Exspecially you did not carry tents etc and were using lodges enroute, shouldnt the back pack been around 7-8 Kgs max?
    (2) In another video you mentioned about covering your head but leaving your ears uncovered - Can you please explain this?
    (3) Lastly in reply to a comment you mentioned that from September 2022 the authorities are "insisting" on taking a guide to EBC - Can you please confirm the source of this news because I couldn't find anywhere that bieng mentioned. It may be preferrred but I am not sure if it is mandated by the local authorties??...TIA

      @messiahcomplex2686 Před rokem

      Hi, I can help with #2 and #3.
      2. Chetan mentions that keeping ears uncovered helps our body maintain a sense of altitude which can help the acclimatization process.
      3. I heard the same rumors and asked the same doubt, and I received answers from some helpful folk on this forum :
      www.tripadvisor.in/ShowTopic-g293889-i9243-k14100821-Question_about_new_rule_for_solo_trekkers-Nepal.html#114959942
      Hope it helps.
      Do note that I am yet to embark on my trek so I do not have first hand experience, I am just passing on info.

    • @shephherd
      @shephherd Před rokem

      Just a data point - at 10.5kg, I had enough food for 2 including fuel for 5 days, a 2 man tent, sleeping bag, mat, pots, plates etc, warm clothes + changes, slippers, trekking pole and a battery bank in addition to the small, essential items - including the weight of the rucksack itself, a 20 yo ozone pack of 40l. You can weigh all the stuff on a kitchen scale. Tent - 2.25kg, s.bag - 850g, etc

    • @ChetanShende
      @ChetanShende  Před rokem

      I not sure why I didn't get notification of your comment, replying late. Thanks for you feedback on my video
      series. About your queries..
      1) I carried 3-4 quick dry T-Shirts, sleeping bag, toiletries, woolen sweater, Dawn Jacket, thermals, solar charger, DSLR Camera, Camera Tripod, Mobile Gimble, 2 water bottles ,Dry fruits, Rain Jacket, Rain Pant, Floaters, 2 trekking pants + one Jeans, one cotton t-shirt (while flying back to my country), DSLR sling Bag, Daypack Squized inside rucksack, trekking poles, DSLR 1 extra battery, 20000 mAH Power bank, First Aid Kit, DSLR battery charge, Head Torch, Socks 4 pairs, so overall weight was 17 Kg
      See, if we are able to manage with 2 pair of cloths then we can reduce no. of T-Shirts and it will be 1.5 to 2 Kg, but multiple layers are essential, specially
      When we enter into minus degrees of temperature, so think in that way. And always consider 2 liters of water every time with you.
      I think if you reduce Camera gears you will be able to reduce 1.5 to 2 Kg my Canon 80 D with around 800gm and Tripod is around 1.5Kg
      2) When I was on my first Himalayan Trek "Roopkund, The mysterious Skeleton Lake in Uttarakhand India" at altitude of 15693 feet, our Trek leaders told to keep head cover and keep ears open, so change in the air pressure around us will be detected by our body, scientifically. I don't know how it works but I followed this tip on all my Himalayan High Altitude Treks. So far I haven't been caught by AMS.
      3) During my EBC Trek I have been friend with a Sherpa, and he is in touch with me on WhatsApp and FB, so he told me about this. But I am also
      not fully sure if Guide is mandatory or not, so try to search for latest info regarding this.

I had to carry RTPCR negative test and Had to fill online form on Nepal Govt website..we don’t need to carry tent u can get lodges easily.. even u don’t have to carry sleeping bag u will get nice blankets in ur room.. don’t carry much weight….do carry metallic water bottle u can fill boiled water and can put it into ur bed in night

      2. U can book after landing at Kathmandu from their sales office it’s just max 2 Km away from Tribhuvan Airport on same Road..as ur plan is in October so it I’ll be less crowded trail and u can get tickets 2-3 days before

      As its your first trek i would strongly suggest to go with Companies, I am not sure your from which region. But if you have done any high altitude trek in Himalaya would be fantastic. You need to prepare very well if you dont have past trekking experience...go for running do Gym not too hard but you should be in good shape and you should be able to walk at least 8-10 Km on flat terrain start practicing daily before few months of your schedule.
      As per this year 2021-2022, If we consider Starting from Lukla and return back to Lukla, cost will be in between 33K to 40K INR for 11-12 days…Apart from this, Kathmandu to Lukla round Trip Flight will be between 14k to 15k INR . Again reaching To Kathmandu and Return from Kathmandu will depend on the mode of travel Air or By Road..from Delhi to Kathmandu round trip flight cost me 19500 INR..and trekking gears I was having already..u can get all gears on rent from Kathmandu or from Lukla..Trekking gear budget is not included in the above cost I’m referring to…separate video is shortly coming on this..stay tuned
