  • I loved the Legend gear panniers that I reviewed a while back, so when looking for a tank bag it seemed logical to go back the those German wizards... This review looks at the LT1 magnetic bag.

    Thanks for the review Tony. I had been looking around for a smaller tank bag with magnets so I wouldn't have to play around with straps and remove it to refuel. After watching your video this past fall I picked one up. Exactly what I was looking for! Cheers from Colorado Springs, Colorado USA.

    Thanks for the video. I'm actually reviewing as well. I took out all the magnets for two reasons: 1) my MT07 does have plastic around the steel tank and the magnets don't reach anyways and 2) the magnets are so strong that they can mess with the OIS of my camera lenses. I use this as a tailbag. Awesome little bag.

      Cheers Bo, as it happens I was just going to look at your channel as I’m in the market for a new camera rucksack. Quite like the Peak Designs 30l, but I know you’ll have a few others for me to consider

      I know this is a couple months old. I've been riding for years and carrying camera in a backpack, (rucksack to you guys) and I looked at the Peak Design, although its a nice bag, but it does not get me excited and the dual sided access it just looks like stuff would fall out, the bags I currently use are Think Tank Photo Airport Essentials which has has a built in cable lock, its made for airplane travel my other and current favorite for riding on a motorcycle is the TUBU 6070 its supposed to be a hiking bag but I can carry two bottle of water, my tripod, camera bodies and lenses along with a a laptop and still have space for my dynaplug tire repair kit along with a few extra co2 cartridges. the tripod rides in the center of the bag unlike my Think Tank Photo which I can carry a tripod or a water bottle but not both, I hate having to put a tank bag on the bike to carry my moto repair kit and then strap a tripod to the back fender and then having to unpack it all and put it back to get back on the road, one bag makes life a lot easier, you can also lock the TUBU's zippers as well,
      Cheers

    Just a quick question; does the waterproof bag impair the strength of the magnetic connection as it raises the bag off the tank a bit? Sorry if the answer is obvious?

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  Před 4 lety

      Hi, no it’s a good question, the cover fits over the top of the bag and then pulls tight around the bottom. It doesn’t go underneath where the magnets are

    Hi mate, could you share your current views on the bag? I ordered one for my T120 but really worried about it scratching the tank paint? How is it holding up? I have ceramic coating done but still have heard horror stories of tank bags scratching the tank. Thanks

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  Před 3 lety +3

      Sure, it’s been really good. The bottom of the bag is rubberised, so as long as you keep it clean and check for grit etc before you use it it’ll be fine. The bag doesn’t move like some strap on ones do, so the chances of scratching are minimal.

      I have had this on my T120 no straps just using magnets for most of this riding season and have never had it so much as shift. I have driven at speed on windy days and no problems. Love it. Has never made a mark on my bike. Just make sure bag and bike are clean and don’t slide it on or slide it to reposition it. Pick it straight off and reposition and you will be fine.

    Raincover... the bag looks really great, practical and a really neat size, but a raincover.. why not just make it waterproof with seamed linings/membrane and such? why Sw-motech? Good review Tony. now please go out and test it on a rainy day :D

    • @SW-MOTECH
      @SW-MOTECH Před 6 lety +4

      Hi Prt Eng, unfortunately it is not that easy to build a completely waterproof bag. We do offer waterproof bags but the Legend Gear products are supposed to be more about the looks and the feel of the material. Zippers will always let water in (even if you seal them), cotton is not exactly waterproof and if you change all that, you will get a completely different bag with compromised looks. That´s not what we wanted with this product. Hope that answers your question ;)

    • @Voodooand
      @Voodooand Před 6 lety

      Good reply, and i fully understand the material aspect. But since its not made of baumwolle it must be able to withstand some amount of water pressure before stuff inside gets soaked, and its not mounted in direct rain like panniers would be. but its still a good lokking little bag.

    • @SW-MOTECH
      @SW-MOTECH Před 6 lety +1

      It actually is made of a waxed canvas, which is fabricated from cotton. Of course it can withstand some drops due to the coating and PU lining. But we can only claim it to be "splash-proof" and not completely "waterproof" without the raincover. But we get your point ;)

      @@SW-MOTECH I bought the LA5 Tool Bag, the
      LR1 Tail Bag, and the
      LT1 Tank Bag. As mentioned, too bad the Legend line is not waterproof or even water resistant. At least your provide a rain cover for the Tail Bag and Tank Bag, but why not for the Tool Bag? They certainly cost enough to warrant providing one.

      @@mancavemoto Hi Tony,
      Sorry for my late reply and many thanks for those other options. I’ve gone with the L1T. I purchased it from the Sportsbikeshop in Harlow and they priced matched it against Motolegends @. £55.20! A right little result. I am really concerned with the strength of the magnets 🧲 though. I can easily peel the bag off the tank with my little finger. I think the manufacture should have sewed a few more in especially at the top and bottom of the bag where they are absent. However I’m yet to ride with it so we shall see. All the best and I’ll see you when the weather gets a bit better
