    Chris Fix....I love you man! I saw this video after my F-150 threw codes P0171, P0174 and P0191 on the OBD-II reader and my truck would not start at all. The consensus of my mechanically inclined friends was either the fuel rail sensor or a bad fuel pump. You turned me onto the possibility that it could be the fuel pump driver module. Your diagnosis trick with the paper clips was a game changer for me (although I used 14 gauge stranded wire). After bypassing the driver monitor my car started right up. The toughest part was getting the 15 year old rusted bolts out of the frame. My F-150 is now accelerating the best I can remember in at least 5 years and am riding on cloud 9 tonight. Thank you so much.

    Just curious. the FPDM just looks like an electronic box, which plugs into a wire harness and is just physically mounted. So why does Ford put it back by the fuel tank. Why not somewhere under the hood, or more easily accessible or where it won't get road gunk on it?

    I am an experienced mechanic but still stumped.
    I have a 2007 f250 super duty that starts when it wants. Sometimes will start then starts running slow then stops and fuel pressure is zero.
    I have cycled the key on and seen 70 PSI pressure, starts right up idols fine and as watched the fuel pressure goes from 70 to zero in about 5 seconds and dies.
    Other times it runs a week with no issues.
    On the no start condition there is only a few pounds to no fuel pressure. Leave the truck sit a day or an hour sometimes it starts right up. Might drive it everyday for a week and no problems. Might sit for for 5 minutes or next day and no start.
    Problem is it will not stay in the no start condition so I can diagnose.
    Replaced the fuel pump module and it started right up so I thought it was fixed. Next day no start even with the new FP Module. Threw a fuel rail switch on too. Still acts up when it wants.
    Cycle key on and can hear the pump for a second but it sounds week most of the time. Sometimes a key cycle will give a strong fuel pump sound and the truck then starts.
    Sometimes the key cycle will only boost the pressure a few pounds and will not start. Then it gets a streak where the pump sounds strong again and starts right up.
    I'm not sure if I should put a fuel pump in or the Engine PCM is telling the pump to misbehave.
    I think fuel pressure is regulated by the ground the module sends to the pump? If I provide a full ground to the pump when it won't start and it starts will it prove anything like the PCM is faulty?
    I removed , and cleaned grounds to the FP Module and tank. Unplugged and inspected wire plugs I could see. I'm in the rust belt so bad contact is possible but I don't see it.
    I hope it's the pump but wondering if it is the PCM providing weak ground at times?
    Thanks for any help.

    Truck Ford 08 F150 stalled while driving on highway.. towed to shop, mechanic stated it to be the fuel pump. Replaced fuel pump and within about 2 days same problem on highway… truck starts to sort of rumple no acceleration while stepping on pedal. I will think now that while still experiencing this vibration on and off at times and no acceleration again that it must be this module. Hope so😔.. fuel pump installation was not cheap

  • @randyantonishyn3460
    @randyantonishyn3460 Před 6 měsíci

    I would suggest using proper probe pins instead of paper clips. Using paperclips will spread and deform the pins and will cause poor pin fitment and will have issues sooner than later trust me. The FPDM are usually rotted out due to corrosion from mud and road salt etc. Also check the main harness along frame under drivers door. The connector is in line of fire from LF wheel tossing rocks and debris. The plastic shield designed to help protect the connector is usually long gone leaving the harness and connector exposed.

    Hi, looking for a little help diagnosing my 2010 F150's cold weather starting problem. When the ambient temp falls below about 30f the 5.4 has a real hard time starting. But if I plug in the block heater the night before, she fires right up. Could this be a faulty coolant temp sensor beneath the intake plenum? Or something else? Took it to a parts store and used their OBDII tester and didn't get any codes at all.

    I have one of these trucks in the middle of the jungle in Guatemala and have been fighting fuel pump issues for 3 months now with no success. I managed to get a hold of a brand new fuel pump module but either it's not grounding correctly or it's not receiving commands from the computer. I use jumper wires on the connector pin two to five and three to four like you say in the video and the truck starts and runs. I left it in there and tried to drive down the street but after 2 or 3 times maybe 10 minutes total running the brand new Bosch fuel pump burnt out. Is it safe to assume that the fuel pump was under too much stress because there is no return line? Is there no way to Jimmy rig this thing to work? I'm on dirt roads in the middle of the jungle maybe 15 mile per hour max speed, I'm just looking for a way to make it start.

    Always check this control module out before spending big bucks emptying and then dropping the fuel tank to replace a perfectly good fuel pump. The module is about $60 to $70, but the labor and parts for emptying then dropping the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump, and putting it all back together is much more expensive and time consuming. Many published diagnostic procedures don't mention the importance of checking the fuel pump control modules, and the failure rate of these modules because of an initially poor design. On the other hand, fuel pumps in Ford trucks are continuously cooled by immersion in fuel, and are not exposed to the elements like the module is, and the fuel pumps rarely fail. I learned this by being too cheap to replace a fuel pump in a 98 F150 without examining every other conceivable cause of a problem - that's when I discovered that the failure rate of fuel pump control modules is about a hundred times higher than failures of in-tank fuel pumps, because of corrosion problems from poorly designed placement of the module on the top of the left side of the rear axle.

      It's so much more common, and a million times easier. Up here anything involving touching the gas tank is going to be a sea of rust and tears.

    • @LemurMonitors

      this vehicle doesn't seem have a fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure is controlled by the module pulsing the current (high or low) to the pump to regulate the fuel pressure during different vehicle operations idle, cruise, wide open throttle etc...
      if they were bypass the module, the pump would just have constant voltage and pressure at all times, weather that be too much or too little, it would cause RICH (too much fuel or not enough air) or LEAN (too much air or not enough fuel) conditions.
      this would effect your fuel consumption, cause misfires, damage your catalytic convert and probably wear out the pump and cause it to fail prematurely.

      @storagecontainer4268 Před 2 lety

      I put my two paper clips in and I could hear my pump running constantly I try to start it and it didn't start but I do hear my pump running constantly and I hear the gas circulating but it won't start if I put starter fluid in the intake area it starts right up. If they started for about 10 seconds and then it dies so that tells me the truck runs and it does start but I don't seem to be getting any gas my question is I did hear my fuel pump running constantly and I don't know if that's the indication that my fuel pump is good and that my module is bad but no it did not start but yes I did stick to paper clips in yes I try to start it with the paper clips and no it did not start I try to start with a starter fluid with a paperclipse it started without the paper clips and it started again but both times and both different tries worked with starter fluid with or without the paper clip but it didn't start on its own so I'm thinking hopefully it's the module which I do hear the fuel pump running constantly when I do put my paper clips in so I'm going to start off with the modular and I hope that's it

    What if the fuel pressure before you short the pins is 25 and after that you short the pins the fuel pump goes to 75 but the truck doesn’t run right?
    It still runs sluggish

      No misfire did a compression check replace the spark plugs for maintenance reasons and installed new ignition coils and new injectors since the truck has 300k miles

    i have an 06 f150 and it wont start at all has no fuel at the rail at all. every so often it will start for 15 secs then stall. Bypassed the module makes no difference! will the truck start if the module is bypassed?

    • @LemurMonitors
      @LemurMonitors  Před 3 lety

      If the module was bad it would - maybe something bad upstream like a fuse/relay?

      @@LemurMonitors fuel pump runs just no gas /pressure at all. Thinking pump is done

  • @katherineboultinghouse9374

    I have a 1994 f150 5.0 and the problem I'm having is my truck starts right up and I drive it about 2 blocks or so and it starts acting like it's starving for gas and wants to die so if I turn it off and back on it starts drives and does the same thing.

    • @LemurMonitors
      @LemurMonitors  Před 3 lety

      No FPDM before this generation so I'd have a look at the usual suspects - fuel pump pressure/flow (obstructions? wiring problems?)
      Another thing is if your truck has O2 sensors (not too familiar with the pre-OBDII stuff) that sounds like the right amount of time to go closed loop after warming up - so bad O2 sensor data or something along those lines?

    It happened to me one time, and I spent whole my money. Same as a 2006 Lincoln town car my car, same problem issues also I have a reading scan code P0191 it said fuel pressure rail sensors, so I replace a new Bosch with motorcraft and still shut it off engine, then I bought it a new fuel pump replace it whole thing and still shut it off, now I replace a fuse pressure and the micro relays too, now I watched this about fuel pump module. So I replace it that now it’s works finallyyyy. I been struggle been a one weeks. Shessshhhh. Now here is a tricks, when the next time used a scanner reading code P0191 first time replace a fuel pressure sensor, if not then used replace fuel pump driver module. Two things are important. Did you know that a P0191 relating to fuel pump drive module.

    • @LemurMonitors
      @LemurMonitors  Před 3 lety +1

      For the scanner we used the BlueDriver OBDII Scan Tool, for the paperclips we used the finest metal clips from the local stationary supply store (make sure you don't get plastic coated ones, ask how we learned that one)

    Acts 21:32 Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul.
    Acts 21:33 Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done.
    Acts 21:34 And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.
