My belief is comedians expose the absurdity that is a major part of everyday life. This absurdity represents the imperfection of human perception and the thought we are mostly out of control of situations we are put in. A dictator must work very hard to create a fantasy world for his/her (historically his) regime where they always come out on top. The absurd nature of life threatens any idealistic mindset and makes it seem temporary. Like other arts, comedy brings out the humanity in everyone and in a way shows us how temporary we are.

I don’t understand why they don’t have an Iranian playing an Iranian...

The breakdown on how dictators rely on a construct of misinformation was so relatable in 2020. Relying on a fragile yet bolsterous self image "the status, the large self portraits, etc"

THe backlighting makes it look like he is a cardboard cutout.

I will not hold my breathe for Jon Stewart's next movie about horrible tortures in Guantanamo and Abu Ghurayb concentration camps.

His record of opposition to Guantanamo and Abu Ghurayb is quite clear. He had a personal connection to the Bahari story. Send him your script.

Steward is a great comedian and makes good points as usual, but the interviewer appears to be shallow and very unfit for the job.
