I wanna be a nurse, but all my relatives judge me so badly like dream big, be a doctor, no matter how good nurse you will be there's always a difference between being called a nurse and a DOCTOR! it really makes me wanna cry sometimes but now I've decided no matter what everyone say I have chosen this path and I'm gonna rock đ€đđ đ»
You Should gurlđ
Nurse practitioner? Where I live they are respected the same and we look at it as basically the same
Don't listen to your family, follow what you want, what you wish, you decide and make it happen, been a Nurse in any specialty makes you more valuable, and been like a nurse anesthetist is other option too, best!
My family has said the same thing to me for over a decade. "Dream big" as if nursing isn't a fulfilling career. It took me a decade later to realize that they were wrong and that nursing is just as important and fulfilling as a physician. I'm now thankful that I've realized this and I'm glad you have to. You got this!
Same but I don't care... One day they will just look me
I chose nursing for the same reasons as you! The flexibility to work only 3 days a week and have 4 days off to pursue other interests is a blessing. Love my career for its flexibility but also feel so fulfilled helping other people âșïž

This hits home. Iâm 30 and just started my first nursing job in a hospital. I had every intention of doing med school after my BSN. After working as a nurse for only two months, not only do I love the schedule and freedom and leaving work at work with a job that will guarantee me a middle class lifestyle, I just donât have any desire to be a Doctor after watching our residents and attendings. It just doesnât look how I imagined at all. I mentioned my Premed aspirations to a very kind patient of mine who asked, and she told me, âwhy? We need nurses, there are so few as isâ. I thought long and hard the following weeks and asked myself over and over again, why do I want to become a physician? No matter how fancy of an answer I told myself, it always came down to helping people, which I already do as a nurse. As a 30 year old, the excitement of pursuing a prestigious and wealthy careerâŠfades. Itâs just not a priority as it is when youâre fresh out of high school and care about material things and social status or trying to prove everyone wrong. I am on the front lines and I am helping patientsâŠand I asked myself again, do I value the prestige and money, or do I value life and time, something that is irreplaceable. I think I am choosing time. When youâre older and more mature pursuing this career, all you want is balance. I help people, and I have a career that will afford a roof over my head, travels, and whatever I need really. No I wonât be getting a brand new Tesla, but 70k+ is more than enough and your happiness with income stagnate after that number. Very few people are lucky enough to have that social support and aspiration to go straight to med school after high school, but everyone needs to understand, there are other careers besides a physician. As a nurse, I am able to give my patients 100% because I have the schedule and time to give myself 100%. Back to work tomorrow.
Speak for yourself. A lot of med students don't start till their 30s. The 30s is the time to aim for higher. You just sound lazy to be honest.
this was beautiful. thank you commenting what i was trying to lie to myself about. i donât want to sacrifice time and money for the prestige of an md

Thank you for opening up about med school/your journey and being real about the nursing judgement and med school life style. You def took the time to think about it and it was nice to hear your perspective!
I am one of those that was thinking of getting into meds school. I was working on the pre reqs but decided to go into nursing instead. So glad I did, ended up having 2 girls right before and during nursing school. I already had 2 kids before that so it was very rough for me. Now I've been an icu nurse almost 6months, night shift, and I still get to spend lots of time with my kids. Honestly I'm happier being a nurse and don't regret choosing nursing over med school.
Wow Susieđ€ proud of you for going through nursing school and being a mom! I hope you know your journey inspires other moms considering going into nursing đđŒ
You are a lot happier healthier base on that âNo one is gonna put yourself first that way you doâ mentality đ„°
I totally agree with you! Not continuing to pursue med school really doesnât mean that youâre not smart enough but rather to the fact that youâre no longer sure if you can and you want to have a commitment to work longer hours to help people. I saw how brutal residency is and it really turned me off. Iâm so glad I tried to work as a nurse cause Iâm sure that Iâd be regretting being in med school now.
BTW, really love your contents because youâre so relatable. Stay safe!
This hits HOME so much! Girl i was in med school for 6 months HATING EVERYTHING about it. I was doing well, but I ended up with the worst anxiety đŠ. I thought about my future (im married and want kids) and thought what will I do? Iâm a super creative person. I want to write a book one day, or work on my art (Not saying this is impossible but for ME I just couldnât see it working out) so one day I walked out of the classroom and never walked back. I ended up getting a nursing degree and love the freedom it comes with. NP is always an option if I feel the drive but it was the best decision I made for myself. Good for you for catching this on early!
I survived year 1 & I dreaded returning but now Iâm back for year 2... I cry every day but Iâm scared to start all over and I feel guilty about leaving bc Iâm technically âcapableâ of being here academically, even as I suffer behind closed doors mentally. If it is alright for me to ask, what was the last straw that gave you the courage to leave? I keep going through the motions but it feels like this isnât my life anymore, so Iâd appreciate any guidance youâre comfortable offering me
@@LisaKirova good luck mate, I wish you the best! Be strong. Maybe one day I'll study medicine too everyone says that first years are the wrost, hold on you can do it!
@@LisaKirova if you feel this way, it's probably best to stop and leave. As a nurse, I realize that life's to short to feel guilty if it interferes with your wellbeing. There's no way this med grind will stop (unless you do family medicine or something like that).
This is such a great & honest video for why you didnât choose to pursue medical school. I really appreciate that you didnât bash physicians and those on that path, but instead admired your partner for it. Im sure having an understanding partner like you makes things a little easier for Kevin! Rooting for you and your future pursuits!
I was also a premed, and for two years I was studying prerequisites for it. But having moved to a different state and needing to wait a year, I honestly lost the interest. But what came about was the idea of wanting to also really enjoy life. So for a while, I was kind of stuck in what I wanted to be. Doctors are amazing and do their best, but their work/life balance wasnât something I looked forward to the more thought I put into that also. So I thought about nursing. You can still give great direct patient care, build relationships and be able to make a difference all the while if you are part-time, you can do what you love and take care of personal matters on your own time. Make a family or explore the world. So I think nursing was a great idea in both aspects. So itâs honestly so refreshing to think Iâm not the only one that didnât have a similar mindset.
And despite having had studied already two years and needing to start over somewhat, Iâm learning that itâs okay that I may be a bit behind. Iâm still young at 22 and if things go to plan, I should start the nursing program next fall. Wish me luck!
Thanx for such a beautifully honest video i hv been a doctor 4 10yrs nw and most days the stress is so much i don't want to go to work. Respect to Kevin been where he was and its really challenging.

I really needed this video today. Been feeling so so lost about what to do with my life, and you gave the best advice ever. Appreciate you so so much â€ïžâ€ïž
Miki, you are a gem. Not many people can think like this. I am a third-year med student who ended up at a US MD school after a long winding road. I used to work as a tech consultant. Pay was good. Benefits were awesome. Work hour was not bad. However, I had a life-changing moment that made me want to become a physician. Unfortunately, I never realized how hard it is to work in the healthcare field until I worked as a scribe at a private practice. Med school is super challenging, which I could never imagine as an engineering major. Becoming a physician takes much more effort and time than what most people would think. It's an experience you cannot truly understand until you go through the process. I am glad that you figured it out beforehand by observing other residents and physicians. You are a wise lady.
Also an RN here, and I must say yes! Exactly, I also planned to be a physician but when I worked as a nurse and got surrounded by medical students/doctors. Whooa, theyâre like not having enough sleep and thought âI love sleepâ like every minute counts. So yeah, same reason with you for not pursuing med school. đ
I love you! You and Kevin are the CUTEST COUPLE! And I am the first like for your video!

Yep yep. Everyone has their own path. I was thinking of applying to med school when my husband was applying, but then I realized that it was not for me. I didn't want to have that LONGterm commitment and invest so much money into my grad school especially when I wanted to have a baby soon đ . I chose to be a nurse practitioner and I'm not regretting it at all. I love my job. It does have pros and cons, but I'm happy with my choice!
Oh! I am 19 and always wanted to become a doctor. The thing is that I also want to start a family early (kinda weird at my age to be already thinking about it) and I am afraid med school will take all my time. I thought nursing would be a better alternative since it is also my pre-med major but I am still not sure because I feel like giving up medecine will make me a lazy coward... Reading your comment kinda reassured me. Thank you!

I'm currently a 1st year nursing student and I also had the intention to become a doctor but after seeing first hand what comes before being a surgeon, I thought that I don't have the patience and dedication to be like that. Almost exactly the same as you. I think it's too early to say so for myself because I'm just a first year but I also really believe that nursing is a beautiful profession. p.s. From where I'm from, a BSN is considered a pre-med although it is't as "well equiped" as other pre-med programs because it has more practicals than theories compared to biology and laboratory sciences. They often tell you here that in nursing you have a theoretical knowledge about everything, but they are not as deep as other pre-med programs. However, we (BSN) also study biochemistry, and microbiology and parasitology; and some schools have physics as a requisite in their curriculum for BSN.
aaa my parents pushed really hard for me to be a doctor, so I'm graduating in a year with my degree. TBH, I don't like the time and dedication demands that everyone makes on me, and I feel like I'm going to lose whatever precious little sleep I manage to get at night knowing my patient is in the hospital and I'm responsible for their life.
