- This is a slideshow film that I did about my amazing time in the United States Marine Corps at the U. S. Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily from 1981-1983. I did weapons training at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, a U.S. Army base in Maryland. As head of my class I flew to the Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily, Italy for Barracks Duty. I served 18 months there and had a fabulous time. There I purchased an Olympus OM-10 film SLR camera for my adventures. My MOS (military occupational specialty) in the Marines was as a 2111 Small Arms Repair/Technician. Semper Fi!
I was a kid there in Sig from 1982-1986. My dad was chief master at arms. Seeing these photos brought back some great memories of places. Looks like you had a blast!
I was there from 77-79 second section and was at marine barracks naples for six months before i went to Sig
I was there 78 - 80. Miss it a lot.
I miss Sicily, what a great place to explore.
I reenlisted to go there in 1982 but ended up going to Marine Barracks Subic instead. Damm wish I would have gone here instead
Wow! I am from Catania, near Sigonella
Thanks for watching. I hope you learned some interesting things about the local U.S. Military.
1979-1981
Did you know a marine, Lcpl David Finley? He was stationed there and unfortunately shot while on guard duty. This was in 1980-1981.
No, I didn’t know the Lcpl, sorry.
1985-86….
