      Thank you! And yeah, haha, you know, it's funny - I have like a semi-decent used car's worth of musical instruments and equipment at this point, and yet my favorite thing to sample is this kalimba I bought off Amazon for like 17 euros... It's going to be front and center in the next video I'll release tomorrow as well.

    Pure gold. Seen it half a dozen times.
    As informative as it is inspiring!
    Same for your entire Texture Lab series, though I'm especially loving this one!
    I'm on the fence about one thing though (considering purchase), maybe you/someone can help me:
    As much as I like, and much of the time prefer lofi, what if I occasionally want a more "clean" (or clear) sound from the unit?
    Is it as simple as applying correct EQ ?
    If so, which frequency ranges are a good starting point (both cutting and boosting) when looking to add clarity to a patch?
    Or are there other, better suited tools or processes to accomplish this instead of (or in combination with) EQ?
    THNX!

    • @SonicCartography
      @SonicCartography  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thank you! I appreciate the nice feedback, and I'm glad you found it to be those things!
      To answer your question, I guess it depends on what you mean by clarity. When I'm using the Texture Lab, it's usually with my own samples, which I've usually recorded myself with a microphone. I don't have high-end equipment, and I'm far from a professional at recording, so they're not of the highest quality. They often have background noise, white noise, humming, etc. Depending on the frequency of the noise, it can sometimes be reduced. For example, one of the samples I use in a lot of the videos (the sound of my violin being plucked) has a lot of low-end hum, so when I put on a high-pass filter, the hum gets reduced and cleaned up in that sense.
      But the device does have inherent limits when it comes to sound quality, and ultimately there's no escaping the fact that it's on the more lofi end of the spectrum. If what you have in mind with "clear" is something more like high-quality/clarity, then something like the Lemondrop might be a better bet for you in this specific regard (although there are many other... uh, regards, to keep in mind, and there are always trade offs, of course; for example, with the Lemondrop, you gain quality and power-e.g., two granular engines, instead of one, and a longer sample time-but lose knobs, which are one of the things I like the most about the Texture Lab).
      To get a better idea of what the devices are capable of in terms of sound-quality, I'd recommend comparing and contrasts videos of the Lemondrop (or whatever else you're considering) with those of the Texture Lab using the preset samples, which are going to be of higher sound quality than mine and presumably as good as the Texture Lab can sound.
      Let me know if that answers your question or if you have others!

      @Allen-ne5dr Před 3 měsíci

      @@SonicCartography Yo! Appreciate your reply.
      I guess I meant both.
      I feel you manage some quality sound out of the TL in the vids.
      I was just curious how far it could be pushed - say, with further processing.
      Your advice about comparing presets is genius.💡
      Shoulda been done that!
      Definitely agree w/ you about the tactility (?) of knobs/keys.
      I'm pretty much sold on TL, just trying to gain a full enough picture of it's capabilities beforehand, to determine how good a fit it would really be.
      It''s mainly due the results I've seen you achieve that I'm so impressed with the unit.
      For real bro, thanks!

    Sorry it might be a dumb question but are you able to chop up the samples you put onto it so that you can have individual hits per each “note” of the keyboard something like a mpc

    • @SonicCartography
      @SonicCartography  Před 9 měsíci +2

      It's a good question, because you can't do it directly, but there is a workaround where you can essentially chop a sample up on the sequencer and then play the sequencer buttons as if they were keys. I cover this in a couple of videos, which I'll link to below.
