- It's finally time to run the Leadville 100!! This race has been on my dream list for awhile, and I'm very excited to run around the beautiful mountains in my home state. This video is about the Leadville Run Camp, a 3 day training event, along with some history of the race from Ken Chlouber and Merilee Maupin, the founders of the race.

Here we go!! I haven’t been in a race in well over a year, might as well start with a big one ;)
Can’t wait to follow your journey! For the past couple years I’ve still loved watching your biking adventures, but I have also missed your running videos. I first discovered your channel from the Running With Ryan series.
Order big and order early!
Excited for you, Ryan! I'll be there supporting a friend and will give you some big cheers during the race! Happy training.
I can cycle 100 miles no problem but running 100 miles is not on my to do list ;) I see somebody managed to run it in 15 hours 43 mins, that is mind blowing! How long do you think it will take you Ryan, do you expect to complete it? Wishing you all the best when the time comes, I hope you can stay injury free!
I tried reading through the comments so not to double ask the question, but…
What kind of base mileage had you already been doing before attending the camp?
Starting off at elevation and knocking out 10 miles then 25 and another 25 is already a huge accomplishment
I never comment on youtube videos, but I started my running journey in February and stopped mid may due to a bit of a depressive episode. One of my goals was to be able to run a 10k then a half then a full then an ultra. I watched all your running videos, read born to run and they motivated me everyday. I was able to complete 10 miles nonstop on my longest run I was so proud of myself. I have been feeling down lately, and today I decided to go for a run after not running for weeks and weeks. Coincidentally you released this today, so I am going to take it as a sign and I will not stop until I reach my goals. You deserve a ton more subscribers! Good luck on the race and I can't wait to watch the video when it comes out!
Keep it up. Just a nice run around the block lifts a mood. 10 miles without stopping.......that is huge.
Think of all the folks out there that think what you did is impossible, at least for themselves.
Rock on man!
Running stops depression in its tracks for me, keep running your body will love it one you are fit..
Keep on running dudeee!!! 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Man, Ryan, you make other extroverts look like homebodys. I would feel so energized training with you.
No Crampies No Trippies No Quitters! Just trying get a new running one going! Love the senior run organisers words of wisdom absolutely solid! And as for bringing the best out of people, that medal goes to you Ryan.
Haha, I like that..:and I might need to sing it, there’s so many places to fall on my face out there ;)
As someone who trail runs and has Cerebral Palsy this video rocks!!! I need to run this for sure! So much energy in all tbe people who run it!!!
Ken Choluber, what a man. What a way with words. "We walked through mountains". "we were miners, we never had meetings. It was a short one." Grit, decency and granite hard integrity etched into his being..
Grit, Guts and Determination by Ken Chlouber - he needs to write this book. He reminds me of Johnny Cash. Great video.
I just finished this video and I’m blown away. The interview with the founders is simply incredible I have no words to describe what a fantastic job both you and they did. I expected a typical motivational video and a preview of your Leadville race and what I watched was possibly the best video I have ever seen by anyone in your field. Thank you for doing what you do I love it!!!!!
Fantastic. I loved that and can't wait to watch the race. My parents originally come from a South Yorkshire, UK coal mining community. Whole mining communities in the UK were absolutely decimated in the 1980s when Thatcher "went to war" with the coal mining unions and the mines were shut. So much of the organisers story resonates with the experiences in the UK. Great work and thanks for highlighting the many positive stories and giving a voice to the good people still out there. Bravo.
Always wondered where my grit and determination came from. I now realize it was growing up in Colorado among old timers like this gentleman. "I commit, I won't quit"
It’s in our blood!
My hips hurt watching you running. You keep up the running as long as you can. I'll pray for you and hope you keep enjoying.
I am not a runner but I found myself reluctantly enjoying this video, Ryan. Why? I think it is because you artfully share the humanity of the wonderful people you encounter. It reaffirms in me that we are all human facing the endless challenges in life. Our response to those challenges, big or small, create a hero in each us.
Just listening to all the people you talk to in this video, I just have to say I love get up and go people. There's so little bs, and you just know they want to do something in their lives worthwhile.
I also just loved the saying on that plaque where it said: *_There are no shortcuts._* 4:19
That is so true to life itself, and it's so important to remind oneself of that very truth every single day, because we both get all our rewards AND losses as well.
Well said!
Awesome, have fun!
I love that they have a Leadville Bike Race too.
I'm only 13 but i am so excited for the day I line up at the starting line of the leadville 100 and get to run one the biggest races in my state!!
Awesome!! You’ll get there
Wow, I am always blown away by your drive, your craft, your filmmaking. I have always thought You’re the best documentarian in the world, my friend. Looking forward to this series.
I come back and watch the section on 'the truth' and commitment every time training (and life) gets hard and it has honestly helped me through injury, cross-country moves, loss and more. Thank you Ryan for capturing this.
So happy to hear that it’s been helpful!!
Ryan!!!! You’re so inspirational…… thank you
Great stuff and great video, what a fun camp. wish you the best. Beautiful.
Dude! I can't believe you're going to run the Leadville 100! So epic, and I hope you share your journey with us. Can't wait!
I’ll definitely share the journey!! Stay tuned
The world is small, I was very fascinated with the Tarahumara tribe, so not long ago I’ve read the book “Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen” Which has a great story including the Leadville 100 and now Ryan uploads a video from the trail, amazing. I know it is not easy riding a bike hundreds of miles day after day for weeks, but tris trail is a killer, you are a beast, respect!
I am in the process of training for my first marathon. I love the advice that it’s not about how fast you run, it’s about who slows down the least and the advice to commit to running and not quit.
Good luck!!! And most importantly, have fun
Yesssss, more running! My favourite thing to do in this world!
Yay! Me too
Great video Ryan, beautiful scenery, great people, positivity. Can't wait to see the actual event! Good Luck! Now I want to visit Leadville!
Stay tuned for the main event!
WOW! A Ryan Duzer adventure that involves two feet instead of two wheels. LOVE IT!!! Good luck Ryan.
Yes!! It’s time to RUN!! ;)
Finished Leadville twice, what an extraordinary experience!
I miss running so much!😢 Living vicariously. And it was great the way they saved Leadville after the mine. I know they have bike races too.
This is one of your best videos yet Ryan.
Great and awesome video! I would love to do this one day!
Im so happy to see groups running again this is fabulous!! I can hardly wait to start up again also. Last March I broke my tailbone and this May I had spine surgery. Grateful to be walking, I am even more happy to be running 1min run 1min walk right now!! Good luck on your race Ryan!!!!
Amazing, great interview with the team behind this....
I agree, so impressed with this organization
Really cool to hear about the history of the race!
I agree, fascinating
That mountain top looks somewhat like the mountains around your home town…..so magnificent and majestic…….
So good to see you again Ryan, miss your bike adventures, and Mira…..ha ha ha…. This is exciting…. You’re doing great Ryan… keep it up…. See you again soon….
@Duzer--best of luck on this event...I just completed the three day MTB stage race on the LT 100...humbling, tough, and awesome all at the same time. "You're stronger than you think you are. Don't quit! Don't give up!"
Right on, congrats!!! That musta been quite the experience
Good Luck !
So cool… can’t wait to see those videos.
It’s gonna be quite the adventure!!
I know you're on a break so I've been checking out older videos. I really do enjoy your work! And the sound of your voice is nice on the ears for whatever that means lol. It's just friendly and sweet. Take care and aloha.
Love, love, love this!!! Thanks for sharing, Ryan! :-) :-)
Yes! A new Duzer running adventure! So excited to follow your training for this massive challenge Ryan.
Excited to watch your latest adventure! I love that you make this look fun.
ALI
"Because running is fun, right?" Dooooz, don't make me unsubscribe :D I'm kiddin'! I ran for to many years in the military & vowed to never run again, unless a bear, wolf, or mean dog were chasing me while out cycling.
@Will O Definitely not! If I wore spandex nowadays, I'd look like a busted ol' hacky sack ball!
Kenneth Newman
Dude, crush it. After all you've done, you can hang with all but the elite pros. Good luck!!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, I’m psyched!
Ryan you need to knock it off buddy every video inspires me. ❤️❤️❤️
What a great video! Showing the humanity and the inspirations of the race founders.
I ran their Leadville Trail Marathon a few years back and I truly enjoyed it. I look forward to running the Silver Rush 50 someday as well.
They’re incredible people
Dang them some big goals! Will be fun to watch!
Yeah, I’m excited to run run run and run some more!
Thanks for posting this great video, camp looked like so much fun, beautiful, even in the rain, best of luck with the training and the race. Great interviews.
Such beautiful filming, Ryan! Thanks for sharing.
So wonderful. Makes me want to run again….
Ryan, this was awesome!
This was awesome!! I saw your posts on ig and was so hoping you were filming it. I know you will crush it at the Leadville 100 👊💪🙌
I’m excited!! Stay tuned for more
Glad to see a new running video, it's been a while ;). Using this as an inspiration for my 1st 50 miler. Great job as usual Ryan!!
This is one of my favorite videos you’ve made. You are such a motivator. You are made for this race and I would have guessed you had already rocked it. Can’t wait to follow you during your run and cheer you on! It’s such a cool thing to push yourself this way. It’s inspiring.
Spectacular! We just loved this video.
thx for the video Duzer. I watched the first 10 minutes and then went out on the run I had been avoiding all day. Felt great, now watching the rest of the video!
I’m SO excited for you!!
Yay! Your running vids are my fav❤️❤️
I'm sold on this adventure, thanks friend
another excellent video -- always a nice mix of adventure and people exploration. love it.
Wow, thanks for another great video! All the best to you!
AWE YEAH!!! So good to see you and everyone else back out there running again! Beautiful course!
Good luck. It's one of the toughest races in the country. I grew up there and the natural beauty of that little town is hard to beat. :-)
My Dad also was laid off from Climax in 1982. It was indeed devastating for the town and probably why I moved away when graduated high school. I miss Leadville a lot even after 33 years.
So true!! I can’t wait to run all over that area
Another great video ryan 👍👍
Great video Ryan, what an adventure, Thank you for sharing. I love Leadville!
One of your best lately Ryan! I will commit to a dream I have! Saludos amigo!
Ryan, looking forward to seeing you in the actual 100 miler in August…. Go get em my friend…
Love your new inspiring video! Awesome new adventure! 🏃♂️
I have faith in you Ryan get that gold buckle
Great video Ryan! It's gonna be hard, but I'm sure you'll knock it out of the park with a smile!
Excellent interview with the organizers.
Ryan I really don't get why you don't have more subs, really deserve it! Amazing vids, amazing mood all the time and great stories to tell/share, even if you can't do 100 mile runs or way too many miles biking tours :D they are still amazing and inspiring
You're going to crush it! Good luck. Great look at the training camp. Would love to be there some day.
What an extraordinary inspirational talk that dude gives...
great recap Ryan... definitely adult summer camp! and I love ken chlouber!
Ken is such a great guy!
Ken is such a wonderful guy! Loved that story so much!
I loved meeting him
Another awesome video story Ryan! Good luck with your training. I think it's so smart to train with others for a big endurance event like this. My marathon PR was a result of team training. I can't imagine running 100 miles but I'm not 40 anymore either. Hope your training goes well, August will be here soon. PS. Loving your New Mexico adventures!
Best of luck, enjoy!
17:09 Even at this gents advanced age when he is talking about what it takes, you can see the steely look of determination in his eyes
He is the definition of GRIT!! Such an interesting character
So many inspiring people in this video, loved your drone footage Ryan!
Thanks! It was such a great weekend
I loved this video. Thank you Ryan. My daughter is going to be doing the Leadville 100 and I am so excited to be there and experience her crossing that finish line in 26 hours. This video my daughter shared with me is making me so excited!!!
Woot Woot !! Ryan is running again...super good times...the energy of all those runners is so magical
Yes!!! Finally back at it
Ryan, this is simply EPIC. The organizers, the views, and the other runners! Wish I were there! Waiting anxiously for the next part of this adventure!
Stay tuned…gonna be a fun adventure
You give me a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart! I did the North Carolina Outward Bound School! Once when hiking in Colorado, ran into a whole group of Colorado Outward Bounders! Their Motto: To Serve To Strive and Not to Yield. Really enjoyed Ken and Merilee. Great video!
Wow, that’s really something. Good luck Ryan. And happy 4th of July 🇺🇸 to you and to all good people who are watching this channel. J. 🙂
Thanks!! I appreciate that
Grit, gut and determination. Words of wisdom.
So true!
Excellent video, and the interviews were both educational and entertaining. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Glad you enjoyed this, I loved learning about the history!
Bring it Duzer! Awesome man!
You know it!
Go Ryan go! Happy training and happy trails! Love the part of the video where the race directors talk about the shift from mining toward outdoor recreation as the main focus of jobs. So much yes to that!
Such an interesting origin story!!
I love the story how this race started.
So interesting! And inspiring
This really inspired me to 🏃♂️ can’t wait to see how the race will be for you!
Running is fun, right? 🤣
God bless and good luck Ryan.
I'm going to stick with my bike! 😉
Haha!! Fair enough. Happy trails buddy
One of your best Ryan....we will all be part of your support crew in spirit this August!
Right on!! I’ll need a spirit crew!
Love the interviews with the Cloubers, really inspiring. It's a great example of reinventing yourself and taking a big chance on a completely unknown adventure after your world comes crashing down.
They’re fascinating, and so motivating
what an amazing story.. I knew about the run but did not know the origin, thanks Ryan!
Very interesting origin story!
Really enjoyed this one. Look forward to seeing how the run goes. Leadville has been on my list and got to visit it whilst out for the Grand Traverse run couple years back. Look forward to getting back.
It should be an awesome adventure on two feet!! Hope to see you at a race soon, maybe the canyons?
Damn Colorado is beautiful... I really need to get over there I'm so jealous! Great shots and good luck sir!
So fortunate to have been born here
Get after it man... I'm heading out to javeline in Oct. Your videos made it look like such an incredible experience I had to check it out.
You’re gonna LOVE it!!
So cool. Thanks brother. “Born to Run” brought this race to my attention 10 years ago. That book was so popular that I think it really elevated recognition and enhanced the challenge.
I agree, that book really put the race on the map!
AWWWW YEAH! You met a good friend of mine, Erin, from Iowa on the bus! Dude, Leadville is NO JOKE. I'm pumped to see your journey for THAT buckle (ENTIRELY different pain cave than Javelina!) GET SOME!
