  • Testing the Vox Ac10 10 watt amplifier at the edge of breakup, over drums. Is it loud enough for clean and distortion tones?

I tried it with my band. When I got to a volume where it was starting to sound really good, I asked the band if it was too loud? They all shouted YES!!! I'd say you can definitely do small gigs with AC10.

Haha exactly! The Vox AC10 punches above its weight class in away that a lot of people who haven’t tried them out don’t appreciate.
It’s my favorite all rounder amp for home use, small gigs, and even some indoor medium-sized gigs).
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience on these!
Here’s how it sounds in a medium sized in-door gig (and it’s not even cranked all the way!) :

The AC10 is one of my favorite amps ever, but I have not tried it out with a drummer. Judging from this video, I would have to say it is not really loud enough to be giggable with the edge of breakup tones I love

Love the Ac10 amp. In my experience it is loud enough for edge of breakup with drums. For whatever reason the drums sound relatively louder than the guitar on this video than it actually was in the room.
Plus it wasn’t cranked to the loudest ‘clean volume’ I could get at this time.
I have a follow-up video I’ll be posting in a couple weeks featuring the ac10 with drums, bass and a singer live.
I use a tube screamer for ‘an edge of breakup tone’ and some mid-boosting for a wet but clean solo, and the thing just soars above everyone’s playing.

I’ll be featuring this amp more with drum and will do some more recording with a better mic setup at some point. I suspect that there’s quite a bit of midcut going on having recorded this on a iPhone.

@@EmandMoh I would be happier if it was not so loud. If I wanted to play on stage I would go for the 15 or 30 watt models. At ten watts, The AC10 still feels too loud to play at home

@@vincentl.9469 I wouldn’t discount the AC10 for home play. It’s actually pretty great to play at home at quieter volumes (the volume and gain knobs lets u set the right amount of headroom to even get break-up at lower volumes. Sidenote: I modded mine with some new groove tube preamp tubes with a lower performance matching (5-6); for earlier break-up).
In a world where u could only have one Vox amp for sensible home volumes and playing small to mid sized venues (unassisted by being mic’ed up); the Vox Ac10 would be it from my experience.
