    I had an original AC10 in Edinburgh Scotland in 1963. I was a rhythm guitarist and gigged with it till 1965. Even got a proper vox style stand for it. Had a built in tremolo and a great wee amp. Got the new version now too and love it. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙋‍♂️

      Dead Hand Blues that is great to hear! I do a bunch of covers in several bands, so don’t play cranked all the time (I can hear why all the demos want to crank that 10 😎) but I ne ed more flexibility. I gig a 15 right now and love it, but sometimes it’s just too much weight and too much amp for smaller places, or quick turnaround bigger places......that 10 sounds epic! 😊👍

      @@ferespelet6070 I plugged the 16 ohm speaker out into a cabinet with 12" greenback, which boosts its volume, bass, and fullness, but the stock cheap Celestion sounds suprisingly good. Both the 10" greenback and creamback speakers fit, and Weber makes a speaker that some people switch to. The design isn't elegant from a tech's perspective, but it sounds great, especially for the money!

    All great amps, I'm a fan of the ac15 and tempted go buy but have a question.
    One of my main reasons for liking the 15 is that it has tremolo and spring reverb. I don't necessarily need the higher volumes as I can mic something smaller to a PA, so would I be just as well buying the ac 10 and using a good trem pedal like TC electronic pipeline or fender treverb, or just going ahead with the ac15.
    The other benefit to the ac10 is its lighter weight

I love the Valvetronix circuit with the 12AX7 valve but I swapped the speaker for a Celestion Green Back last year ($50.00 auction) and it is now the amp I use all the time. I've got an AC10 and an AC30 and I adore them both. I've got the British Racing Green variant of the AC10 and man if my house was burning down I'd run back in there for that thing! I love it that much. I've got multiple Strats and Teles and a 335 and it rules with all of them. With a Tele it's lush cleans and nasty leads. With a Strat it's pure sparkle. With a 335 it's straight up British Blues Paul Kossoff meets Eric Clapton type tones. Vox rules hard!

  • @ruiseartalcorn
    @ruiseartalcorn Před 4 lety +6

    I have an AC15C1 and I find it's better (for me) to use the normal channel, with the master on full (which allows the power tubes to work fully and adds headroom) and gain to taste. It has a much warmer and more open sound than the top boost (and takes pedals better). I then add a Boss BD2 (which is a very transparent pedal and doesn't mess with the natural tone of the Vox) with a Boss DS1(with the gain off) in front as a boost. I can get a great sound at low volumes this way and if I need to crank the amp more (eg at a bigger gig) I simply use less pedal and more amp. It's an awesome amp!

    • @hatch707
      @hatch707 Před 4 lety +3

      Can you use the 15 at bedroom Levels and get the same tones? I can't decide between the 15 and the 10. I really like the highs from the 15 but i'm not sure if its to loud. I like the 10 but im not sure if its loud enough to compete with a drummer and full band.

    • @ruiseartalcorn
      @ruiseartalcorn Před 4 lety +2

      @@hatch707 The way I use my AC15, I can certainly play at low levels. With the master on full and using the normal channel volume as the only volume knob, I can play as loud or as quiet as I want. When playing quietly, ALL the dirt comes from my pedals. When playing loud, less dirt is from the pedals as the amp starts to get gainy. I think both the 10 and the 15 are great amps but if I could only have one, it'd be the 15. Bigger cab, bigger speaker, better reverb and more options. It's a LOT heavier though, which may be a problem for some.

    I've got a vox jmi original ac 10 from 1964 / 65 it belonged to my uncle who had it from new he played country and western with some blues thrown in it was passed on to me when he passed away in 1980/81 but I had been playing the drums for about 3 years always loved messing around with a electric guitar me and my mates used to jam on the w/ends so there was always a guitar lying around my bedroom just a squire strat and a law suit black columbus gibson copy but I always got more out of the strat copy very hard to come by now so I'm told don't think the new ac10 c1 and the rest of the copies of the ac10 and 15 seem to be different but maybe that's my ear good luck and I hope you can get your hands on one 🤘

    Thanks TTK. I’ve been searching for a good comparison of these amps. Too bad you didn’t include the AC4. I’m curious how that stacks up next the others. Just wondering did you purposely hide the Les Paul headstock to avoid any litigation?

      Steven Ohata I have both the AC10 and the AC4 amps, I don’t understand people who say the ac10 is for the home? I only play my AC4 amp at home, the AC10 is way too loud if you value your hearing, and with some good overdrive pedals, I swear it thinks it’s a Marshall plexi, just an amazing amp

    My '65 AC-15 cuts through a live mix like nothing else, with a Tele. Mine has the gold Bulldog speaker, which they don't make anymore, unfortunately, seven tubes and a tube rectifier. A Tele or a Strat is what sounds best, not muddy humbuckers, especially Les Pauls and Gretsches. And I've gigged with my Vox for many, many years; no problem with the volume. I had a muddy Marshall DSL-401 in the nineties, and it couldn't cut it; forty-five watts and not as loud. One thing: those Vox amps don't sound like mine. I have a friend with a '63 AC-15, which I'm currently trying to buy. Great old amps; just make sure if you buy an old one, it's not made by Thomas Organ; they butchered them.

    Vox Ac10 is the best tube amp, for the lowest cost. Mic it, into a PA channel, with a dynamic mic, on stage and use it as your monitor, old school. Maybe I'll buy a Mexican Tele and have the best, most versatile tone, Jazz, blues, Country, Rock. No pedels. The Ac10 is good basic gear, for cheap.
