    Hi! I was thinking of making my own socks but i'm wondering if a sewing machine would work as well as a serger? Also, would it be okay for me to use this method and sell socks on an my yet-to-come etsy shop? Thanks for your tutorial :)

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před 3 lety +27

      Definitely! You can use a zigzag stitch for stretch fabrics, or your machine might have other stretch stitch settings (you’ll have to check the manual) that would work as well. You can 100% sell your creations made from my patterns! My whole purpose of making patterns is to help small creators start up their own businesses! If you do, tag me on IG: toothandeye, and I’ll feature you! 😍

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před 2 lety +1

      If you are able to pickup elastic thread then you can make these with a straight stitch machine! You will need a special needle type and I suggest looking up a couple videos on how to sew with elastic thread as it is a little different to work with, but definitely doable :)

    Hiya I don't have a sewing machine rn, what sort of stitch should I do if sewing by hand ?

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před rokem

      You would be able to do this with a hand sewn zig zag stitch or a herringbone stitch!

    They are so cute where do you find the crew socks cut out board to begin the sock cut out

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před 3 lety

      Like the blue cutting mat? I believe I got it at Michaels Canada. I’ve had it for years so I’m not 100% sure, but it’s called a “self healing cutting mat” so you would be able to find it online or at most craft stores

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před rokem

      I don’t have a link for my sewing machine, but the one I’m using in the video is the Babylock Imagine. As for my patterns I make them by hand then finish them off in illustrator and photoshop.

  • @ln8784
    @ln8784 Před 3 lety +2

    Couple questions : 1 how would you change the pattern to be thigh high? And second what’s the point in the cuff at the top ? Thank you !!

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před 3 lety +2

      You would have to alter the pattern yourself to change it to thigh highs, there isn’t really an easy way to explain that in a short sentence. I have plans (hopefully, eventually) to make a video on how to do this. The cuff is mainly for aesthetics. It does help them sit a bit nicer than if there was no cuff. I hope that helps!

    How would one scale this up for large feet? Trial and error?
    I am trying to learn to make clothing for myself, but I am.. A rather large human. I wear US Men's size 16 shoes. Should I just take diametral measurements of various points of my feet/heels and scale the pattern to match widthways?

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před rokem

      Trial and error would be the easiest method for beginners. You can try printing off the pattern at a larger scale (105%, 110%, etc) and making a test sock. Or you can print off the pattern, assemble it, cut it in half length and width wise, then spread those pieces out by a 1/4”, tape them on paper, and recut that for a larger size. Only cut and spread the cuff width wise. If you made the sock exactly to your measurements they would be too lose because of the stretch of the fabric.

  • @laver8025

    How can I cut them like this when I don't have this one that you cut through?

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před rokem

      I’m not quite sure what you mean? Are you talking about using a rotary blade? You can pin the pattern in place and use scissors instead and that should work!

    I bought the pattern a little disappointing. It doesn’t tell you which way is the stretch and cuff says cut one weird what about the other sock. One and done

    • @toothandeye
      @toothandeye  Před 4 měsíci

      The stretch would be horizontal so it can stretch and form to your feet. For the cuff you can cut out two, one for each sock.
