    I bought my 2013 Edge at 147,000 miles. I went through it and made the flex coupler on the exhaust removable. Replaced the ORIGINAL spark plugs 7:26 and coil packs. I then replaced front and rear brakes and bought good tires for it. I run full synthetic oil and change the oil and filter every 5000 miles. I love my Edge , so happy to hear people getting such high mileage out of them

    I bought my 2007 Ford Edge SE at 43K in 2013. Aside from normal maintenance like fluids, brakes, and suspension work, it has been nothing but reliable and now has about 176K (due to work traveling). I'm glad to learn about these top 5 problems in case I ever encounter them. Thank you for the video!

    Side note: The fuse box that she pulled the cover off also has the 5 digit pin code for the manual unlock on your drivers door. I bought a 2013 Edge a year ago and the Ford dealer was going to charge us $79 to get that #.

      My neighbor is a safety engineer at Ford, his daily drive is always a Edge (3 Edge since I know him). He told me, in his 15 years career with Ford, Edge safety test score is highest amount any vehicles he has ever tested. And he is not only testing Ford vehicles, he also test competitive vehicles. For that reason I bought my 2014 Edge, after 8 years and 80K miles, it is running great.

    I have a 2012 Edge and was getting Evap system leak codes. There's was an evap message on the speedometer screen and after I changed the valve canister, that message went away. But after clearing the codes, BlueDriver odb was still reading evap leak with large and fuel cap loose. Just gave up after that, didn't want to deal with fuel cap parts. Great informative video!

      Bought new V6 2009 Edge. My fans went out at 170,000 miles. Mechanic says my year one wire ran both fans, but has been changed not sure which year. When it goes your car is going to need towing. I was towed twice mechanic didnt realize the fans went out. and he thought I had a leaking reservoir the first time I took it in. 180,000 miles once a while the transmission would stick in first for a moment, drained transmission 3-4 times not a big issue, original spark plugs. Granted I skipped around. But I didn't hear anything about PTU failures because Ford believes that 1qt if gear oil is good for life. It has no built in drain and is crammed next to the exhaust and up against the engine with no airflow.
    This is a huge problem with all Ford AWDs until they quietly installed a drain plug.

Turn the ignition off and wait 20 to 30 seconds, restart the engine and it goes back to normal. This problem only appears when we let the engine idle like waiting at the drive through ATM.

    I have owned 2 of these. I am on my second one. I had a 2012 Ford Edge Limited. Here are the issues I had with that. Issue 1. " Transmission will not shift to park." this was caused to moisture in the transmission boot tunnel. Issue 2. Panoramic roof would not close, this was common on all first gen edges. Issue 3. HVAC dual zone Blender doors failed, Driver side would blow hot air and passenger side would blow cold air. Currently I have my 2014 Edge Limited. Issue 1 PO456 Evap leak. She really did not need to take all those parts off, $30 off brand from Auto zone. Fixed in 10 min. Issue 2: Door Ajar light, kept draining the battery. Issue 3. Loose driver seat, moves on acceleration and deceleration. Good car overall but seems like just shoddy build quality.

    Had a problem with the door ajar light. Fortunately, it was a warranty item.
    Next problem was the electronic throttle control which was not only a common problem in the Edge but the Escape and Explorer as well since they used the same part. This should’ve been a recall issue but Ford likes to screw its owners. Fortunately again, still under warranty when it occurred.

If I open the driver side door while the engine is on, sometimes it will come back on. Otherwise I have to go into settings and reset the brightness level. There are other problems:
    - PTU (Power Transfer Unit), which is the transfer case from the gear box to rear differential in AWD models. It works hot, placed in between exhausts, and holds 12 oz of fluid only. When I replaced the fluid, it was black as ink, and stank like hell. When it fails it would cost like $3500 to replace.

    My mom has a 2010 Ford Edge. The water pump went out and it cost a fortune to fix. Because the water pump is internal they have to remove the engine to get to the water pump. Also the timing chain is around the pump so they will probably go on and change that timing chain while the engine is out. And then the catalytic converter went out and had to have replaced. That was last year and now her SUV is missing or slipping. But I was told once a catalytic converter has already been fixed or worked on u will soon have to fix the other one or work on the one that was fixed. She is the only owner of the vehicle, and is very good at the up keep of it. But just thought I would put this out there if someone else has the same issue they will know it's very costly personally I would get rid of it it's way too expensive for me to pay for.

      The water pump in that V6 is going to blow at any time. I've heard 180-200k is when they like to go. Super expensive to fix and that's IF you manage to catch it right away. If it fails while you're driving around it will ruin your engine by dumping coolant into the oil and you won't even know until it's too late.

    • @michaelchristopher8266
      @michaelchristopher8266 Před 3 lety +2

      @@nodak81 this is wrong. It only dumps coolant into the oil if the bearing fails (not very common). That is usually caused by lack of maintenance. Also the water pump got an updated design in 2011 to fix that issue. If the water pump starts to fail it will leak coolant externally through a weep hole and you will see coolant on the ground. That means it’s time to be replaced.

    2011 Edge AWD here. 134k miles. So far, so good. No major problems but the rear cam did go out. Inverse image and loss of caution lines. Replaced with a Dorman and image is fine but no lines. Even flashed the PCM with FORSCAN but no joy. Oh well, at least I have a color backup cam. No mention of PTO/PTU heating problem. Trick is to have the fluid changed every 50k even tho Ford says its a lifetime fluid unit. BS. Find a local shop that will do it. Also, if you want your water pump not to fail do REGULAR coolant changes. Coolant contains lubrication that the WP needs. Got 213k out of my '98 Explorer and sold still running in good shape by doing REGULAR maintenance. Don't extend intervals.

    I appreciate the video and concise clear explanations. We have a 2010 Edge that has been nothing but reliable for us. Our first one was a used 2007, and we decided to get a brand new one at the time, we liked it so much. In the meantime, we have imported the vehicle to Canada from the US. The one item we have a little trouble with is DRL. In Illinois, where we originally purchased the vehicle, DRL is not required. This older model does not have the digital dash that provides the means of activating DRL, or deactivating as desired. Where we live now, DRL is required for the biannual safety inspection. Long story short; do you have any advice on a good "fix" for DRL on a 2010 Ford Edge Limited? I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you!
