Probably the most powerful handheld available right now. Only if the annoyances of Windows can be dealt with. This will be a perfect handheld.

@@_arorarohit_ yeah. I was mostly just annoyed with how Windows was acting on the Ally when I was using it. Specially if you accidentally touch the screen while playing a game. 😂

Legion go is slightly more powerful due to the ram speed but barely noticeable

Apart from the Steam Deck, other PC handhelds are too greedy with that push for high performance, higher resolutions, higher refresh rates, and RGB, that they semi-neglect the whole point of a handheld/portable device: its battery
If you're going to go full performance with 25W, you better provide a battery to keep up, or just build a PC/Buy a miniPC as you'll be tethered to the wall anyways with only 45m-90m of portable playtime trying to handle AAA games, since those are the only games ppl care about apparently. Still doesn't last all that long in basic games
No track pads, lack of a proper handheld OS, terrible SD card placement, impractical RGB/lighting, a 1080p screen you'll never use especially at 120fps outside of basic games, could have better power efficiency, subpar battery choice, etc
The ROG Ally is poorly designed. It seems rushed and not well thought out. 1080p120, the hardware that can't even handle it outside of basic games, the impractical RGB, the subpar battery trying to handle it all but can't for more than 45m-2h

With Steam BIG PICTURE mode the rog ally works like steam deck and even suspend feature works. I set it to go into the mode at startup

Thanks for your video, there is a lot of complex stuff to explain with this device. I have a solution for that lag. I play with an Xbox controller using an Annapro with a 1080p 24” touch Dell monitor. I use Bluetooth to the ROG Ally most of the time without issue. This I hear is less lag than plugging into one of the free USB A ports. I suggest you try both setups. Use a cable if your controller is far from the ROG. Try different dock solutions, they are not all the same. Try plugging in on the network jack, especially if you stream. This is the strength of the device if you are a tinkerer. Think of it more like you are PC gaming on the big screen than console gaming through the handheld. Then choose desktop mode but adjust your controller controls, unless you are a mouse keyboard gamer then you are all set.

I don’t think I’m QUITE ready to pull the trigger on a handheld device like this just yet. Maybe the next iteration will iron out those few remaining kinks. (And yes, I’d also prefer it in black).

Don't you think the lag you mentioned when plugged on your TV was due to the Bluetooth connection of your controller rather than the Rog ally itself?

I actually played with rog also and the lag was there. Xbox controller to rog lag isn’t much as I have been playing like that alot.

Hey Rohit, I am one of your earliest subscribers. Was planning on getting the Pixel 8 or iPhone 15 as my daily driver from the US. Really want the Pixel but can't decide due to the network issues. I use an Airtel SIM. I just want to know if network speed would be slower than iPhone 15? I use cellular data mostly as compared to WiFi. So will the battery life and heating be an issue on the Pixel? Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks...

Have been using it since launch. This a good product SKU start. There are few kinks they have to iron out, but if you like to game in a relatively unplugged environment then this scratches that itch. Saying so here are my top complaints about the product. Battery life (but it similar with all these microPC ), ergonomics are not bad but I like it better in my steam deck due to the fat grips , SD card reader issue (this is just bad engineering from Asus) and personally I feel all joystick and triggers should have been Hall effect.
Don’t get get me wrong, I love my unit and daily drive it (sometimes with an eGPU), but there few things I want Asus to fix in version2 hopefully with an APU which can run Aaaa tiles at 1080 at 60FPS easily.
Also if u used switch, this can replace switch very easy and also give u a better gameplay experience as you can scale up resolution in few games and FPS is much better in most games than switch. If u just want an emulation machine go for the deck oled. It looks pretty 4:3 aspect ratio works better with legacy system and decks performance at 8watts and 15 watts is somewhat better which will result u in a better battery life.
I recently brought one for my brother in India and I got it for 530$ at Best Buy open box. It was in excellent condition. If you have someone coming from US this is a very good option to save you some buck which I can spend on getting a bigger SSD because that micro se card reader will get toast for sure.
