Just like all other Punjabi cities, Jalandhar too boasts of numerous lip-smacking street food options that leaves people enthralled. Every lane, street or alley over here is brimming with food joints both traditional and contemporary.
After the gratifying evening food tour, the next day we embarked on a day tour with our gracious host Naina ( / paradise_onmyplate . We were very excited as we were going to explore some old eateries in the old city that have been established by partition affected migrants from Pakistan. This food tour was really special for all the heartwarming stories of the vendors.
Our first destination was Dilbagh Sweets in Adarsh Nagar. They are considered to be the most renowned place for this crisp and flaky besan based sweet that is a close cousin of soan papdi. Here we tried the desi ghee one and the vanilla one. The classic desi ghee one was simply amazing.
From there we went to Dina Nath Chole Kulche Wale at Gurdev Nagar. Their boiled chickpea based chole kulche was truly irresistible.
After those really light yet delicious chole kulche we went to Gurjanwala at Mitha Bazar for their signature dish katlama karah which was a nice combination of crisp flaky flatbread and sooji halwa. But it was their other dish, the puri chole that won our heart.
Next we went to King kulfi at Jyoti Chowk to try a classic kulfi that has been bringing smiles on the face of people since the past 80 plus years. It was a decent saffron and pistachio infused frozen dessert.
Thereafter intrigued by a shining huge cauldron we checked into a nondescript dhaba named Kashyap Rajput Vaishno Dhaba. Here we met the agile and endearing 80 years old gentleman Madan ji who briefed us about the place and his daily tasks. We were greatly inspired by his passion at such an age. Here we tried a slow cooked mah ki dal with lachha parantha. The meal was very basic yet hearty.
While the dal was on boil at Kashyap's we had sneaked out to Yoga Halwai right on the opposite lane to taste their famous peda and lassi.
Next stop was Sodhi Jalebi Corner at Jatpura. They are known for dal wali jalebi's. The moong dal and maida based treat was quite relishing.
With a sweet aftertaste we headed to Satnamiya Parotha Junction at Canal Road to try their super fascinating and colourful paper parontha. These were actually thin and soft fenugreek and beetroot flavoured Parotha. We had paired it with a toothsome shahi paneer.
We ended the tour with the chilled glass of banta soda from Pahwa Kulfi House in Model town.

I have so much respect for migrants either those who migrated from now India to Pakistan and vice versa. Imagine the hardship they faced; they left everything and building from nothing. People of both India and Pakistan should respect migrants. Lots of love!

This India Pakistan story will tug your heartstrings, emotional and heartwarming. How general publics are so different from politics on both sides. My family migrated from the eastern border, my father has so many memories, still has a strong desire to revisit his childhood places. Partition was such a tragic moment for the general public. All we need is love and peace, above all good food, our shared heritage. Love 🙏

In 1991 Dina Nath served us again after leaving college in 1981 and would not take money. We gave him a lot for those free ones or on l owe you college days. Still remember his BIG TASH & brass Pot and his hands would work like a machine. He was the stop for us whenever we bunk classes or got bored. God Bless him.

Immensely enjoyed this video! I know so many people who have migrated from Jalandhar,Amritsar,Ferozpur and so many other places which are now in India.
Pakistan has a huge number of people from east Punjab who are doing very well in different fields of trade and industry.
They are experts in manufacturing of iron and steel products and in so many other fields.
I have heard from them that they left their homes with their doors open and were sure that they would return to their house soon, but could not,I personally know a family whose one small child was left behind in the emergency but could not go back to bring that child back to lyalpur ( later Faisalabad ),when they were able to visit India again after a lapse of few years that child had been adopted by a childless Sikh family and was a grown up young man and he refused to come back with his biological parents.
So nice to see people doing well in Jalandhar.
Stay blessed and safe and we pray for you all so that you come out of this pandemic soon.
Love and prayers from Pakistan 🇵🇰
