The only problem with a background check, I personally favor the idea, is that for many of these spree killers they have no background that will show up because there's nothing documented. The idea of psychological evaluations is a good, solid step that we should be taking when someone begins to show even the slightest sign of anti-social behavior or diminished capacity. If we can somehow help these kids before they get so low and hopelessness takes them to such a bad place, we could make a difference. Even if only one incident like this were prevented, it would be well worth the time, effort, and cost of doing it.

Psychologists can be manipulated. All a person has to do is answer the questions the way they’re supposed to be answered. Anyone not completely insane or in psychosis can figure out how to pass. I’ve personally taken several, up to around 600 questions, with many reworded but the same question. I had thought "If I was crazy, I could still see how to answer all of these to make them happy”. The interviews in person were simple and not invasive or even remotely intrusive. A person could fake their way through the entire process with just a hint of charisma and confidence.
