Ikr? It buffled me when they regarded that as a red flag. Like some people can be happy with their life and have the right mentality. Also he wasn't even negative over attending therapy if he needed it so their reactions sounded a little crazy to me. 😅
I would say it's a universally good experience to go to therapy because it definitely helps you reflect on certain events in your life. But it's not a must for everybody of course and forcing it on people does more harm than good. And regarding it as a red flag dismisses the actual point of red flags which is to point out toxic and abusive behaviour. Another point is that not everyone has the time and the money to do so (and here in Germany there have been big debates about the long wait times to even be able to secure a therapist).

I agree! I've gone to therapy but if people don't need it then cool. As he said, nature can also be therapy. People don't always need to sit down with someone, but he said he's open for it if necessary and that's what matters.

As a mental health clinician - these girls have a really close minded perspective of mental health support. Therapy is not necessary for everyone, and for some can be extremely harmful when other supports would be more beneficial. Even suggesting that EVERYONE needs some form of mental health support at every stage of their life is concerning.

I’m a strong advocate for therapy and destigmatising it. Still don’t believe that everybody MUST use it but that everyone CAN benefit from it, so it should be easily accessible to all. They’re still very young and are in a group of like minded girls who seem to agree on almost everything~there’s no one to play devils advocate on the subject and challenge them to expand their views. That breeds a little bit of ignorance sometimes. A lot of people have very healthy outlets and don’t currently ‘need’ therapy. They’re a lovely group of girls regardless and are free to solely build bonds, with people who completely align with their current values 🤷🏿♀️

Plus there are a lot of factors that go into someone not going to therapy. If it’s not as talked about in your family or circle you might not realize you need it when you do, and you might not be able to afford it. Better help is less expensive than most therapy but it’s still expensive. Not everyone has the time either.

I think we have to revisit the idea that everyone needs therapy… because therapy comes in different forms - does it always have to be just sitting with a therapist or are there other ways to cleanse the mind as well… I for one am a huge proponent of/for therapy, but I haven’t been in 3 years. I do a lot of research on self-betterment, self-care, healing, and being a better human overall. Some people might not be able to afford it and that also might not be the path for everyone in all moments of their lives. To me being that rigid on personal preference for healing seems to be a sign of immaturity and closed-mindedness because we all find healing in different ways. It could be nature (like he said), community, and/or other positive methods. I think we’re being conditioned to promote therapy but it’s also somewhat classist because it isn’t always accesible to everyone.

Everybody cannot afford therapy, let's start with that first respectfully. Also for men it adds onto the pressure of what people might think, I know some are supportive but some are also not. Either way don't be judgemental about it and close off to men who aren't advocates of therapy. Coming from someone who would love to go but can't.
u've probably thought of this before but i'ma say it anyway because for a while i didn't realize it. but medicaid pays for 100% of therapy fees most of the time. i thought it'd only lower the cost based on some therapy sites i saw, but once i realized it covered it all, i went in. if you have some type of government insurance it might pay for all of it, or also sometimes jobs have therapy resources that can get it to you for free. or you can ask at your university if u go to one, they might give you free counseling for a period of time, especially if ur low income and on scholarships like i was.

I think mental health is EXTREMELY important and I'm all for people getting therapy if they want to or need to.
But not everybody necessarily needs it. We're all different, we all have different experiences and handle them differently. Judging others simply for not getting therapy is TOXIC af.
Also, forcing therapy on to others and judging them simply for not being in therapy is completely the opposite of caring about mental health. If you really cared, you would understand that everyone should be free to decide whether they want it or not, and they should really do what makes them feel better/what they're comfortable with.

Plenty of people at my College literally have a therapy fetish, their entire existence revolves around their current state of the therapy sessions. It's crazy and seems to be an unhealthy obsession, but unfortunately a lot of people are introverts and shy so the only people they are comfortable opening up to are professionals. You can tell these girls fit that mould and project their insecurities onto other people on a very personal level, but to get to the point where they negatively judge someone who isn't in therapy would be funny if they weren't being serious.

I actually liked Youssef. I don't think it was fair how they judged him. GIrls, you have no idea how someone deals with their personal issues. Black beauty is so under appreciated! Joslynn was kind, has great character with beautiful features and a model-esque body but so many people commented about the fact that she was bald. The fact that Jonathan covered his hair with a hat (maybe for style, maybe for coverage) and Joslynn was rocking her bald look and it still wasn’t enough just makes me disappointed. Hair isn’t everything. Jonathan was super chill and made an effort to relate to the girl’s likes and dislikes, but homegirl wasn’t attracted to him so I could tell the energy she was giving back wasn’t fully there. But this is just a small group of people so hopefully more people are willing to appreciate black beauty inside and out in the real world. Regardless of what their hair looks like. ❤

therapy is undeniably healing, but the ‘need’ for it can also come in waves. i saw 4+ therapists one year, zero the next and now i’m currently on the hunt again. just because you’ve never been, doesn’t mean you aren’t actively working on yourself.

man these women sure are narcissistic, yet go to therapy and cant see it themself so unself aware. they want act like their openminded and accepting yet have the most close minded thinking. yet they still dismiss someone for how they appear with the short guy but then act like other people shouldnt be shallow and accept people for their physical appeareance. theyre really awful people in reality with a lot of mental issues but dont want to change even with therapy

Stop forcing therapy on people!! Being self-aware enough to know when to go to therapy is important but shoving it down everyone’s throats will only lead to rumination.
The therapy thing is kind of weird but I can understand it, being with someone who’s never been through mental or emotional struggles at the same level as you can be hard to relay your feelings, it shouldn’t be a red flag but it’s understandable, also homeboy in the bear hat got robbed 🤦🏾♂️
