Honda accord CVT transmission fluid quick drain and refill.....
!!! Transmission fluid expands in heat and in order to receive accurate results, to ensure there is enough fluid in the transmission to fill the torque converter and operate all the hydraulic circuits. The only way to fill the converter full of fluid is with the engine running. It must be under normal operating conditions. If the fluid is checked when the engine is cold, you may get false results indicating the fluid is low. Allow the engine to continue running while you check the level.

The manual states the engine should be shut off for the level check, and you shouldn’t add fluid when the check plug is out (I think the fluid will drain straight out on its way to the sump).
    Pasted from manual:
    Transmission Drain:
    1. Start car and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on twice). Shut off the car.
    2. Jack up and support the car with jack stands. The car should be level when jacked up; so, you can properly check the fluid level afterward.
    3. Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid.
    4. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer.
    Transmission Fill:
    1. Remove the filler cap (plug).
    2. Refill with Honda HCF-2 CVT Fluid.
CVT Capacity: 3.5L (3.7 U.S. quart) at change
    3. Install filler cap. The filler cap handle should be perpendicular to you if you're standing directly in front of the car.
    Transmission Fluid Check:
Note: Do not remove the Check bolt before or during refilling of the CVT.
    1. Apply the parking brake.
    2. Start the engine in P.
    3. Move the shift lever through all positions while pressing the brake pedal firmly, and wait at least 3 seconds in each position.
    4. Move the shift lever back to P and shut off the car.
    5. Remove the Check bolt and sealing washer.
    6. The transmission fluid is at proper level if the transmission fluid is dripping from the check hole gradually (a slow and gradual drip).
If the fluid is low, loosely install the check bolt, remove the filler cap and add fluid. Then repeat step #2.
    7. With the fluid at proper level, re-install check bolt with new sealing washer.

Thanks for sharing. 2015 Accord. Fluid was replaced by dealership at 50K miles and then again by me yesterday at 114K miles. Surprisingly, I got just slightly OVER 4 quarts out: probably 4.1 quarts! I only had 4 quarts of new fluid and poured all in. Loosened the check bolt from above on level ground but couldn't watch from above (not enough light) whether or not there was a momentary drip. By the time I got under the car, there was no drip, but just slight wetness from a very thin stream near the bolt. So, if anything came out, it was miniscule. I am now anxious whether I put too little in. What to do? Should I buy another quart and simply add 0.1 quart? Should I add more and go through the check bolt rechecking process again? My initial hunch was that the dealership put too much fluid at the 50K mile change, but this is clearly not the case as otherwise a bunch would have come out through the check bolt.

I see you had the car running while checking the level. Will this matter? Or is it better to have the car off?

Yes, engine should be running for this oil level check.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. If i use a jack to lift the car, it won't be level to the ground. Is this ok while draining and filling the fluid?

Car should be level on ground, you can use jack stands if you have them or loose the bolt and drop the jack and remove the bolt from the top. Hope this will help!

Lots of red flags in this video. This is why you should always watch more than one video and do your research, or you will mess up your car.

Why do you check the fluid level with engine on, please?

    • @kashfix9160

As the fluid gets up to temperature it expands. If the fluid is cold, it won't give the proper level reading, thus overfilling will ensue. One of the main fluid compartments of the transmission is the torque converter. Hope this answer your question.

I put all 4 qts in. Do you think it can cause a problem?

Honda call it for 3 and half qts, I would drain with the overfill plug while engine is running.

This video is for transmission fluid drain and refill, also the mileage didn’t hit the mark for 40k, I may will do in my next video. Valid question though.
