  • It's Spring time and It is now time to get the water working again in the summer cabin. Every Fall we need to clear out the water so the pipes don't freeze. So naturally every spring it's time to add that water back in the pipes. Here is how we do it!

Our cabin is set up just like yours. My question is, Do you keep the ball valve between the discharge and the cabin closed until your pump has prime. And will the pump lose prime when you open that valve to let the water into the rest of the cabin.

N Brom hi sorry for the delay. Keep the ball valve closed as your priming it. It’s tricky depending how long the draw is from the well. I keep the valve shut and put well on as it’s running you keep putting water in hole until it starts to pressurize. When it’s starts to come out you put the nut on and watch the gage go up. Sometimes you have to play that game for a while, if pressure falls add water again until it starts to spray then put but on. Once the pressure is there you should be able to put the ball valve back on and be all set. At the beginning of the season I have a flush out that bypasses the filters. Be sure the water runs clean before letting it go in the house and install filters only after it runs clean. Hope this helps.

hi we just installed our second ace jet pump for a 25 foot well, the first one we installed ran for 5 minutes and then shut off, and then made a sound like it wanted to start again but didn't so i brought it back and they gave me a second one, they claimed that the pump was not primed, I re attached the new pump and re did all the lines, to make sure that all pipes were better sealed, then turned on the new pump, it ran for the same five minutes and then shut off, I opened where the water was put in, to prime the pump and it was full to the top. I got the same as the first motor, as it tried to start but never made it to the start, instead making the sounds like it wanted to start but just would turn over.
I called Ace, and their great suggestion was bring it back for a credit.
can you give me some advice, I have been replacing this water pump every three years, so I sort of know what i'm doing.

When you say 25ft is that how far down the well is? how many HP is the Pump? I know our old cabin had a huge hill we had to pump up the water and it was very difficult to get it going, this video is our new cabin and it's only 10ft down and 20 ft away from well. That could have a huge effect on it.
