@@LearnAboutFlow that is a very dumb thing to do btw using the bible and gods name in vain is a terrible sin and sad that other people who have a different religion or dont follow any is being harass by christians in the US.. and the lgbt+ community aswell
As a religious person here's a tutorial to religion apart from following the book: a friend asks if you wanna come over for an activity prohibited by your religion: DO: My religion says I can't do that, sorry. DON'T: My religion says *you* can't do that, sorry.
Valedictorian: schools are preventing students from taking initiative and becoming leaders Teachers: of COURSE that’s not true *proceeds to prevent student from taking initiative
What a brave kid! For the valedictorian to come out and speak out AGAINST his school for what they've done to censor and stiffle, and they just proved his point when they took away his audio. Dipshit school staff: "is he talking about us? He's talking about us! Quick turn it off turn it off! Omg he's getting to the serious stuff cut the cord! Aaaahhhhhhhhhh"
It took me a long time to learn what that woman was talking about. My beliefs say that I can’t swear or take the lord’s name in vain, but it’s not my place to tell people who don’t share those beliefs not to swear.
it's a whole different thing with abortion though, as encouraging people to not have an abortion could save a life, encouraging people not to swear does basically nothing
But that's the thing, "taking the Lord's name in vain" does not mean don't say goddamn or Jesus Christ as an expletive, it's exactly what they are doing with abortion, putting words in the Lord's mouth to benefit their own personal beliefs. I was raised Catholic, went to classes, did my commandments up to Confirmation for my parents, but I should have quit long before that, as by that time I realized the sheer hypocrisy of the Church. The religion on its own I respect, if you have faith then you do you, but the Church is morally bankrupt, and anything political that they try to dictate and justify because "Well God said this..." is completely against the very commandment they claim to hold up.
In regards to the newswoman: I'm Wiccan. One of the very first things I learned as a Wiccan is "Do as thy will, but bring harm to none." I feel like that's a pretty good standard to live by- you're free to do whatever you want, as long as you're not harming others in the process or in the aftermath.
The main brunt of the argument (from what I've seen) is more along the lines of "at what point are humans considered human and therefore deserving of human rights and protections." those in favor of abortion tend to hold the opinion that a fetus is undeserving and human rights until either a set point in its development (2nd trimester, 3rd trimester, when a heartbeat starts, etc.) or after it has been born, whereas pro-lifers tend to hold the opinion that once the sperm meets the egg at that point it's a human life and should be given rights and protections. So your stance of "do as thy will, but bring harm to none" would be viewed as a pro-life stance since the act of abortion harms what they view as a human life, of course pro-abortion stances would consider it the opposite, since they don't consider the fetus as an individual capable of being harmed.
@@doorlocke8009 Because it's not an individual. A person has a consciousness, sentience, awareness of the self, and the required brain activity for all those things. Moreover all of those missing elements of personhood, combined with the fact that IT saps resources from the person's body, make it more comparable to a malignant growth than an individual. Whether the actual person who has actual thinking feeling personhood wants that growth to /become/ another person, is up to them. Pregnancy is dangerous, causes permanent changes/damage to the body of the person, poses mild to severe mental health risks, and takes a period of recovery after the baby is born. Once the baby is born there's a whole new list of things to consider. Like the fact that being a parent can all but rob a person of their own individuality if they are not ready or fully prepared. Parenting is a 24/7 job and requires financial, emotional, comfort, mental and physical sacrifice on a daily basis. You're whole entire life can turn upside down. So that person, when they are being forced to grow another person against their will, loses all the things that made them a happy autonomous individual. They are forced into being a slave to parenthood- no longer able to live their own life, no longer able to pursuit their own happiness. There is no valid argument to do this to someone. None whatsoever. Pro lifers simply need to get over themselves.
@@alysa3623 I was outlining the different sides arguments as I saw them but if I am to play devil's advocate there are a number of arguments that can be made. first "a person requires consciousness, sentience, awareness of the self, and the required brain activity" does this mean coma patients who lack consciousness (since they're unconscious), sentience (as defined as awareness or responsive to or conscious of sense impressions) are not people? Also even for the religious, there are very very few instances of pregnancies occurring without sex, one of the arguments I've heard is that, should one willingly engage in intercourse which holds the potential to conceive a child it constitutes an implicit consent to the pregnancy and therefore must bear the responsibility and has no right by that consent to exterminate the life she willingly participated in the creation of. (this seems to be an adaptation of one I've heard as to why men should be held responsible for supporting a child they create, at its most fundamental level the argument is "if you didn't want the baby you shouldn't have had sex") as an aside, arguments predicated on the difficulty of child rearing is not a valid reason to terminate the life of the fetus. The parent is fully able to surrender the child and have it be raised by the state, infant safe haven laws exist in most states whereby a woman can walk into any hospital emergency room, set the child down, and leave no questions asked. Personally I support abortion up to viability (the point at which a baby can be delivered and supported outside the mother) (the legal definition of abortion being the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus, aka every abortion must result in the death of the fetus, if it's delivered early and incubated to maturity that is not legally an abortion under the law). The reason I'm arguing a pro-life stance is because it's important to fully understand both sides of the argument in order to have a valid opinion on the matter, dismissing arguments on the opposing side as "invalid" simply because you don't agree with them and not taking the time to consider and understand the arguments makes an opinion invalid.
Fun fact: the only thing that the Bible says about abortion is how to make an abortion potion. Well, there's also the mass slaughters it supports, which definitely includes pregnant women and living babies, but those weren't about the pregnancies, specifically.
And then there's the time that the Sky Daddy gets upset that his followers didn't slaughter all the woman and children and decides to screw over his own followers.
The bible also says it's completely OK to commit war crimes, literally slaughtering another civilization down to every man, woman, child, and all their livestock. (1 Samuel 15:1-9. And for context, it was in retaliation for the battle of Refidim. When the Israelites left Egypt, they came upon Refidim which was the only oasis in the area, and was already settled by the Amalekites. The Israelites just barged in and forcefully evicted them from their home, taking it for themselves. And in return for trying to defend themselves and their home, they were completely annihilated. But not right away either, the Israelites had already completed their journey and settled the promised land. And THEN went back to murder everyone. Even if you argue that the Amalekites were in the wrong trying to stop the Israelites from accessing the oasis, no one can say it was right to go back and murder everyone years later out of spite.) Christianity is a fucking death cult. I mean their symbol is a literal instrument of torture. And Catholics take it a step further by putting an actual dead guy on there. Imagine that in any other context, like you walk into a temple and there's an effigy of a guy being pulled apart on a rack.
@@saratronus The people against abortion don't give a fuck what the bible actually says. They just use it as a tool to justify their horrible ideals and will nitpick, misinterpret, or just say it says whatever they want it to.
0:37 We had a teacher who had a policy of locking the door at the scheduled starting time so that no latecomers could enter, once we flipped it on him, since *he* was the late one.
One of my teachers last year would occasionally lock the door before class so the people who were late couldn’t get in, it was the first class of the day so people being late was pretty common. Then, he’d write “DANCE” on a piece of paper, slam it against the window, and wouldn’t let them in until they danced. On the last week when he was late we locked the door, and seeing this he came through the back door, which didn’t lock but some students had barricaded with chairs. He just pushed right through it but it was still pretty funny.

With respect to the newsperson talking about the bible, I agree 100%. It's one thing to practice what you believe in, but it's another thing to ram your belief down anyone's throat just because you believe it. What about people who are Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Agnostic, Atheist, do they not have an equal say and a right to believe and live the way their religion says they should, or live a life without religion? No one has the right to tell you how you should or should not be able to make choices that are specific to you, your health and ultimately, the choices you make about how you will live your life.
You're arguing from an egalitarian point of view; the Christians in Name Only (CHINOs) are arguing from a domination point of view. It's very similar to slave ownership.

@@Kiwi_Tea in the case that carrying the baby to term will kill the mother why not try to save the baby too? why set out to kill the baby when you could save both the mother and the baby. we have the technology and know-how today to save a baby born far too early so why kill the baby? again with the rape scenario. most anti-abortionists are willing to compromise on rape cases because of the sensitive nature of them, but pro abortionists do not want that compromise because they are most concerned with being able to simply kill their baby if it's inconvenient. cases of rape abortions are very rare compared to convenience abortions. though i'm going to say that it still doesn't make sense to put a baby to death for the crimes of it's father. especially when rapists don't even get the death penalty for their crimes. so why do their babies? if the pregnancy would kill the mother then see above (why not try to save the baby too?) if a family is too poor to support a child, then they shouldn't be engaging in the act of reproduction (baby making). it's also worth mentioning that poor kids deserve to live just as much as rich kids do. you're basically saying that poor kids deserve to die because they are poor or that poor kids are better off dead. but all the same there is adoption. i'll also add that there are waiting lists for people wanting to adopt babies. babies are high demand for adoption. it's the older children that fair poorly in adoption rates. but babies are almost certain to have a family waiting to adopt them. so why kill the baby? i'm pro choice too. i'm simply not pro abortion. the choice comes in when you have the choice to engage in the act of reproduction (sex). we live in a civilization where women are not forced to reproduce. they have the choice to decide whether or not to make a baby. and before you bring up rape in this aspect, i'll clarify: rape is illegal. it's a crime. it's not allowed in our civilization. do criminals exist? yeah, and we try to stop them from being able to harm other people by locking them up to keep them away from future victims. but again, we don't even give rapists the death penalty so why do we sentence a baby to death for the crimes of their father instead?
Making it mandatory would *literally* be setting ourselves up for extinction. What pro-choice people want is, well, *_a choice. Simple as that._* If they can't raise a child, or simply don't want to, they should be given the option.

The girl in red has some sense when she says that everyone should respect and let others believe what they believe. And not just because one believes something he/ she should "convince" or make others believe the same in any way possible , each person is different and has a different context , not everyone believes in the same ( im leaving it as that without example ) , also time and space are different as it was even 1week before , so what was written/ said in ancient texts or other media can also be a reflection of that time and era and how the people in that time experienced and believe, so in resume each one has different viewpoints and beliefs and that should be respected and everyone should interact and live in harmony/ peace , respect with each other , no matter their beliefs

I don't quite agree with the "Nerd voice" comment about the lady in red. She didn't just repeat a phrase spoken by someone else in a mocking voice/tone. She properly explained a valid argument, while being respectful to both parties. Her argument did not end in a simple repetition of what the other party said, it contained a valid explanation of why it shouldn't stand as a universal fact. To me, it felt that saying that "the only way to win an argument is by using the nerd voice" dismisses all the logical points that she actually made throughout her speech. More so, I, personally, don't really think that the topic at hand is that difficult either. Everybody should have the right to bodily autonomy and make their own decisions about themselves. Her argument was that no one else should force such huge choices on you, especially simply because of their own personal beliefs, which she showed that she respects but doesn't follow herself. On the topic of abortion and religion, there is one right answer; and it's that no one gets to dictate how anyone else live their lives based on their religion. Jake it's easy, as you said 'these people think they are right, these people also think they are right, what do you do?' - you give them a goddamn choice to decide for themselves what they think is right and the freedom to act upon it!
Or, you justify and prove moral positions. Just giving people the freedom to act upon their beliefs is the same as arguing rape should be legal because some people think its right and some people think it's wrong. I agree with the lady that religion can't be used to make laws but not because you can't force morals on someone else. Every single law we make is forcing morals on people. So we need to have the systems to determine the objective accuracy of those morals as any society should have to prove its morals are objective and correct rather than subjective based on collective personal beliefs that may or may not be true.

shes right tho. religion as a concept is the stupidest stuff ever. ofcourse you can look at others, or works to see what a good way to live is, but the way religion does it, just makes it insufferable because a large portion of the believers take it so serious, that they either misinterpret everything, or point others on things that they arent doing well. dont let religion impact others lives. not even your own children.
we have a reason to spread this, basically the first thing i learned in church was to "spread the word of god" because non-believers will go to hell, i don't want anyone to go to hell, certainly not my kids, and abortion is a matter of life and death, do you want to kill a child?

There is a right answer. The right answer is that people (religious or not) dont get to dictate over other peoples body. Thats it. Full stop. It would be ludacris to think of someone forcing a christian woman to have an abortion, it is just as ludacris to force anyone to not have it.
@@drog9235 so if abortion is murder then ejaculation is a genocide
Fck jesus
@@drog9235 stopping people from having an abortion often ends a life, the expecting parent. And guess what happens to the fetus then 😉
But that's the thing, "taking the Lord's name in vain" does not mean don't say goddamn or Jesus Christ as an expletive, it's exactly what they are doing with abortion, putting words in the Lord's mouth to benefit their own personal beliefs.
'you can do whatever you want so long as you don't hurt anyone else" is what i always say
I’m a Baptist Christian even if you don’t use the Bible as a argument Scientists have proven that you are killing a life
@@doorlocke8009 Because it's not an individual.
(this seems to be an adaptation of one I've heard as to why men should be held responsible for supporting a child they create, at its most fundamental level the argument is "if you didn't want the baby you shouldn't have had sex")
as an aside, arguments predicated on the difficulty of child rearing is not a valid reason to terminate the life of the fetus.
Even if you argue that the Amalekites were in the wrong trying to stop the Israelites from accessing the oasis, no one can say it was right to go back and murder everyone years later out of spite.)
Christianity is a fucking death cult. I mean their symbol is a literal instrument of torture. And Catholics take it a step further by putting an actual dead guy on there. Imagine that in any other context, like you walk into a temple and there's an effigy of a guy being pulled apart on a rack.

What about people who are Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Agnostic, Atheist, do they not have an equal say and a right to believe and live the way their religion says they should, or live a life without religion? @@Kiwi_Tea in the case that carrying the baby to term will kill the mother why not try to save the baby too? why set out to kill the baby when you could save both the mother and the baby. we have the technology and know-how today to save a baby born far too early so why kill the baby?
again with the rape scenario. most anti-abortionists are willing to compromise on rape cases because of the sensitive nature of them, but pro abortionists do not want that compromise because they are most concerned with being able to simply kill their baby if it's inconvenient. cases of rape abortions are very rare compared to convenience abortions. though i'm going to say that it still doesn't make sense to put a baby to death for the crimes of it's father. especially when rapists don't even get the death penalty for their crimes. so why do their babies? if the pregnancy would kill the mother then see above (why not try to save the baby too?)
if a family is too poor to support a child, then they shouldn't be engaging in the act of reproduction (baby making). it's also worth mentioning that poor kids deserve to live just as much as rich kids do. you're basically saying that poor kids deserve to die because they are poor or that poor kids are better off dead. but all the same there is adoption. i'll also add that there are waiting lists for people wanting to adopt babies. babies are high demand for adoption. it's the older children that fair poorly in adoption rates. but babies are almost certain to have a family waiting to adopt them. so why kill the baby?
i'm pro choice too. i'm simply not pro abortion. the choice comes in when you have the choice to engage in the act of reproduction (sex). we live in a civilization where women are not forced to reproduce. they have the choice to decide whether or not to make a baby. and before you bring up rape in this aspect, i'll clarify: rape is illegal. it's a crime. it's not allowed in our civilization. do criminals exist? yeah, and we try to stop them from being able to harm other people by locking them up to keep them away from future victims. but again, we don't even give rapists the death penalty so why do we sentence a baby to death for the crimes of their father instead?

To me, it felt that saying that "the only way to win an argument is by using the nerd voice" dismisses all the logical points that she actually made throughout her speech.
More so, I, personally, don't really think that the topic at hand is that difficult either. Everybody should have the right to bodily autonomy and make their own decisions about themselves. I don't see how saving an unborn life is any of yours or any other person's responsibility or issue. Women are allowed to decide what they want with their body. They should be allowed to do what they wish. If they want a child, they can keep it then, but if they don't want it, then go head and abort. They live with the consequences with what they do. As Asmongold once said "you cannot reason someone out of faith, because they did not reason themselves into faith".
Exactly, if people weren't assigned religious beliefs by their family and indoctrinated from a young age, but instead free to chose for themselves, we would see a lot more atheists.
He wasn't the first to say that. Also, it's not true. I was reasoned out of faith myself. I used to strongly believe in Christianity and the Bible. Then I learned a lot about how pseudoscience and logical fallacies work. And when I was about to be confirmed in my church, I was asked to think deeply about my faith. I then realized that all of the good logical reasons for not believing in other paranormal claims also applied to my Christian beliefs. At that point I could no longer believe in gods, thus I was reasoned out of faith.

I just thought "haha, song about funny man who holds the world" instead of "There is a man who holds the world". Try as they might, they never got me to believe in religion. And they tried everything, mandatory church sessions for the whole school, we all had to say the Lord's prayer every day, boatloads of religious hymns. On the topic of abortion and religion, there is one right answer; and it's that no one gets to dictate how anyone else live their lives based on their religion. If a woman wants to get an abortion, whether it be for personal safety and health, or because she can't deal with the stress of having a child at the present, or she just doesn't want one, no one and I mean NO ONE gets to tell her she can't abort it.

Hey Jake there's another subreddit like this one called r/TopTalent which is pretty cool too! You should definitely check it out
You CAN have an answer. What Ana said was spot on. Being a veteran, I fought for the right to practice any religion as one sees fit. But I also fought for the right to have no religion. Laws that govern the whole country should not be made based on ones religious beliefs.
shes right tho. religion as a concept is the stupidest stuff ever. ofcourse you can look at others, or works to see what a good way to live is, but the way religion does it, just makes it insufferable because a large portion of the believers take it so serious, that they either misinterpret everything, or point others on things that they arent doing well. dont let religion impact others lives. not even your own children.
we have a reason to spread this, basically the first thing i learned in church was to "spread the word of god" because non-believers will go to hell, i don't want anyone to go to hell, certainly not my kids, and abortion is a matter of life and death, do you want to kill a child?
Don't look at christianity and blame all religion because of one. To understand a religion you must look at the scripture, book or whatever they have that explain the religion itself and not the people. Any people you see today are not a good way to represent a religion.
