- Here is another full episode of Press Your Luck. This is episode 188B as recorded from GSN in DVD quality. This is part 2 of the Mike Larson affair. We all know how it ends but it is still fun to watch. ENJOY!!!
Big props to Michael. He knew how to play this game basically perfectly. The most legendary performance on a game show ever.
Those prizes Michael has won is $5287 combined with $104,950 in cash gives Michael a crazy total of $110,237! Unbelievable win!!!
I wonder if Ed, having watched Michael for 30 something spins, didn’t subconsciously pick up those patterns and that’s why he hit those two $5,000 spots before hitting that whammy.
It was just dumb luck he hit those in succession after Michael passed.
Probably didn't pick up the patterns, but maybe the timing. Consider his first spin of round 1 as further evidence.

And I think Ed liked him. When it was his turn he said, "i cant pass my spin to Michael". Janie had no problem with that though. And he hugged Michael at the end. Only gave her a handshake.

There was no rule that said you have to pass your spins after a certain amount ! Just a shame he wasted a lot of his winnings over the years (the Press Your Luck Scandal) .

2.35 he celebrated before it stops. The production crew knew something was off, but they still had to carry on and pay him.
After this episode, several local networks picked up the show and CBS ended up making the money several times over.

Watching this second half,...and while Larson's feat is huge, something I noticed: for all the talk about THE pattern (2-12-1-9-4), he didn't hit on nearly as often as it looks. He more often hits the #4 from a pattern that bounces off the #7...

Technically 4, from Round 2 - but if we count his Round 1 spins (as we should), it took 6 altogether to rack up that total.

Of course he did. They are legally obligated to award him any prize earned on the show.
@@Ohrami Unless the contestant declines them, which many did if they couldn't afford to pay the taxes on the prizes, or just flat out didn't want them and only wanted the cash.

you know what vahan? i am beginning to agree with you. Mr Taylor sent me a PM requesting episodes of Name That Tune. (there were fans of that show?) Even though Janie lost fair and square, CBS should have had her back on a later episode.
Why? You said it yourself, she lost fair and square. Toughest break ever that it had to be here, but bringing her back "just because" would be breaking their own rules, so to speak.

I've changed my mind since I posted this. Sure it sucked for her, but having Janie come back would be like Jeopardy having back everyone that lost to Ken Jennings.
Interesting fact when both Ed Janie and Peter recreated the Larson Episodes which was part of the Big Bucks the PYL scandal with the electronic version of the game with the same patterns as the Larson Eps and Janie didn't do so well with the patters while Ed did very well and Got 110,238 one more dollar than Micheal Larson did to quote Peter the "only difference is that Micheal got his money and you got nothing after Ed completed his run of the board.

He probably would've been pretty damn pissed. But remember, he still had 2 earned spins. He probably would have, very aggressively, run the board up again until he racked up his $110,237 again.
That would have taken a very long time to get it all back, then they REALLY would have been suspicious. I don't know, but i think he would've just given up after doing all that.

Was there an edit when Michael hit $1000+Spin, it went from $40,000 to $42,000 or did the scoreboard keeper give him an extra $1000.
I don't think so, I think that was one of those double-counting errors - where the amount is added to the player's score twice - that had happened from time to time, and for whatever reason they didn't catch it this time.
Since the board looks exactly the same when he hits the space - 2:58 - and when we next see it right after - 3:06 - I don't think that's an edit.

Nah, screaming doesn't cause throat cancer, otherwise, all the screamo artists we see, would be dead by now. Pretty sure he was a chain smoker that caused the cancer. He was only 35 when he appeared on the show, yet he looked like he was in his 50s!

You can actually see a fraction of the missing footage where Rod Roddy announces what Michael Landry of Jeanerette, LA, if you look carefully at about 15:30.
Was that in the original broadcast? Because on the last show, Peter announced who the other home viewers.
It was edited out of the OB, seeing how it was brought up the previous Friday.

If CBS Continues The Show, They Will Show A Technical Difficulties Slide for 15-30 Minutes! Peter Can't Gave Michael That Amount of Money, Peter Will Lose His Half Amount of Money At his own show! But He Got More Money, So He Kept The Show Running until 1986. I also know, Ed Sounds Like My Voice (FUN FACT).
