    I am a two-time kidney transplant recipient, so taking medications and supplemental vitamins has been my life since I was six. This made me start to tear up with awe and gratitude the minute I got home from work. No partner who I have known has ever taken the care and time to sit down and actively learn about what I'm taking, why I'm taking it, when I'm taking it, and how much - let alone pack my weekly pill box. Moriah, you are a genius, and Cardlin, I realize that you are happily married, but I swear you surpass every single gentleman I have ever laid eyes on in terns of behavior when you do one of these audios. You set the bar so high, it seems.

      why'd you get a kidney transplant twice?

    • @veronicaarmbruster2249
      @veronicaarmbruster2249 Před 2 lety +1

      @@cvspvr: Because as much as transplanted organs do save lives, the immunosupressants we take to safe guard the organs do build up in toxicity over the years and certain organs - like kidneys - eventually fail. Plus, the age and health of the organ equal the age and the health of the donor.
      That's want happened to me. I got my first transplant donated from my mom. It failed after 28 years of continuous immunosupression. Now - after two and a half years of dialysis - I will be two years post-transplant with my second kidney at the end of the month.
      Although, I have read and heard that some patients have managed to keep their transplanted organs functioning for over 40 years.

    • @cvspvr
      @cvspvr Před 2 lety

      @@veronicaarmbruster2249 yeah, that makes sense. fortunately, lab grown kidneys will be a thing soon. i'm sorry for the loss of your mom. why'd your original kidney fail?

    • @veronicaarmbruster2249
      @veronicaarmbruster2249 Před 2 lety +1

      @@cvspvr : Oh, my mother did not die from giving me her kidney. She's alive today. :)
      I apologize that I gave you the wrong impression. There are actually two types of ways to get - specifically - a kidney transplant: 1) Is through a living donor who only has to give one kidney, and
      2) Is through a recently deceased/ brain dead donor - say from an aneurysm or a car accident.
      Most - if all organ transplants in general - are achieved through deceased donors, simply because one cannot give up a lung or heart and live to tell about it. (I hope this comment doesn't get you demonetized, Cardlin!)
      The age of the kidney in question always correlates with the age of the donor - living or deceased.
      Lab grown kidneys from what I understand aren't exactly consumer ready as of yet. Plus, there are a whole bunch of politics between/from international dialysis companies (or supply conglomerates) which lobby governments to keep their treatments as primary options when it comes to treatment of End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF/ESRD) due to the cost of treatments ($$$$$) and the insurance willing to pay for it - if the patient wants the treatment at all.
      This makes it very hard for start ups to create new treatments because once they find something that works - and doesn't fail - (because kidneys are not always very intimately understood from an engineering perspective) - the startups/ smaller companies also have to deal with FDA approval (at least in the US), which is where the dialysis lobbies can sweep in and convince lawmakers to make restrictions within agencies that don't allow the new product to come to market.
      So essentially, I'll believe it when I see it.
      As for the primary reason of my kidney failure, it was renal necrosis due to premature birth.

This motivates me to try to do better with my medication, and this audio actually reminded me to fill my pill container😅. So thank you for this it made me feel a little better about all the medicine I have to take. (Also I never thought about decorating my pill container and making it fun, will definitely be doing that!!)

    This is so sweet ! I’ve had to take medicine for reflux issues which are accompanied with painful and frequent hiccups for a while now and it’s been getting tiring , I don’t feel like my doctors are taking it seriously like yeah the meds helped stop the occasional reflux , but I learnt that when I don’t take them (I went to visit someone and forgot to pack them) I am violently sick. I’ve had an endoscopy and they just said that they could see some inflammation and not much else, I’ve had blood tests and nothing. I tried cutting out different foods (spicy, acidic as well as carbonated drinks , my gp recommend restricting my intake but I ended up not eating them at all for couple of months)and so far nothings helped. Plus the hiccups are loud, high pitched , painful ,annoying and embarrassing.

    Taking pills can be hard, but just remember some meds are important to take. But you are not a drug addict or a weirdo for taking medication. For me it‘s hard to take my meds, but if I don‘t I know I won‘t feel good. If it‘s physical or if it‘s mental just remember to take your meds. And whatever you‘re going through, there‘s always a good spot that‘ll come along sooner or later. Just know that I‘m proud of you for surviving and living even if you didn‘t take your meds, or haven‘t showered, or brushed your teeth or whatever it might be. I‘m proud.

    I'm hypocalcemic and hypothyroid. Thanks to thyroid cancer in 2018. Basically my body has a calcium deficiency and my hormones suck since they took my thyroid out. Including depression medication, I have to take 4 types of medication everyday and 2 of them are 3 times a day. I skipped out in November because I'm an idiot and thought I would be OK. My blood calcium plunged to a very dangerous level and I was hospitalized for four days. I used to cry about it, taking medications for the rest of my life. The idea of that would get me so upset but it is what it is. Thank you for this audio Cardlin

    Skipped my topical meds (I have severe eczema flare ups and I need to use a prescribed skincare routine) today because I hate having to do it all of the time. It’s just such a long process with the 6 steps twice daily, and having to know just what amount to use. While this is meant for pills it still helps to have that kind of- conversation of actually taking care of myself. And also the line of “you don’t want it to be as bad as before” really sticks because I used to wake up with my skin feeling like it was on fire, and I never wore short sleeves. Now because of my meds I’m able to actually wear comfortable clothing and not be insecure about my arms being exposed. So, you’re right. I’d rather be annoyed yet comfortable instead of in pain and insecure

    I've recently started taking 4 (used to be 5) pills daily and I'm not a big fan of it. Every new dose that was prescribed to me would cause me to feel stomach cramps and would start to make me uncomfortable. I sometimes get frustrated having to take them mainly due to the side affects they can sometimes have. I have to remember to take certain pills with foods and have to incorporate them into my daily routine. I'm still adjusting to it. I know there are people dealing with far bigger problems, but I just felt like sharing my point of view. :)
