    Is any Orthodox Christian reading this question 100% convinced that the Eastern Orthodox church is the true church, or are you just operating off of an educated guess? If you are 100% convinced, how does someone become that way? I'm too dumb for all the really deep, back-and-forth arguments. Is there a prayer I can say or a simple book from the Holy Fathers that will 100% convince me BEFORE joining a church? I want to know the truth but am too dumb to figure it out with my intellect. When I say 100% convinced, I mean that you know it as well as you know that you're conscious.

      @@Unseen.Warfare That's cool. I would like to visit a monastery. Did you join the Greek Orthodox church?
      I have a few more questions.
      Would you say you are 100% convinced that Christianity is true and that Eastern Orthodoxy is true, or are you just 95% convinced or something? Do you have any doubt?
      If you aren't 100% convinced, do you think it is possible to be 100% convinced, or is that a silly standard?
      Regarding the prophets and apostles, I have a few questions. Do you completely trust that the prophecies from the prophets regarding Jesus are valid? Do you completely trust that the apostles were capable of understanding the meaning of the prophecies and capable of determining that Jesus fulfilled them? I think that Jesus fulfilling the prophecies is the most important thing when it comes to proving that He's God. The miracles He did are important, but, in my opinion, they, on their own, don't definitively prove He's God. They are just strong suggestions that He's God.
      I could be wrong about this though. Is there some point in the Old Testament where definitive proof is offered that certain miracles are from God? Did the prophets lay out a criteria? That all may not be necessary though because you have the ultimate prophet Jesus telling you that His miracles are from God, and it appears that Jesus proved He was a prophet after the things he foretold came to pass (Him rising from the grave, the temple being destroyed, what other prophecies did He make?). What do you think of the prophecy He made where He said that all of those things regarding the end of world would come to pass in "this generation." Was He wrong about that? I think that CS Lewis said He was wrong, but how could Jesus be wrong? Anyway, if Jesus proved He was a prophet, maybe you don't even need the Old Testament prophecies to prove that Jesus was God. You can just listen to Jesus. I don't know if I'm right about any of this.
      Thanks again for the information. Have a good one.

      @@Unseen.Warfare Thank you for sharing that information. It's compelling. I've thought about this stuff for a while, and it seems like there's always some argument that can be made to undermine whatever argument the Christian is making, and you're left with something that's not definitive. It may most likely be true, but you don't know for sure. That's great that you're 100% convinced. Maybe one day I'll be too. I ask God for this constantly, to tell me what I ought to do, which church I ought to join. Thanks again. Have a good one.

  • @brendangolledge8312
    @brendangolledge8312 Před rokem +2

    In my experience with suffering and despair, if you endure long enough, the mind will invent a way to find meaning. I came to this idea before hearing convincing arguments for Christian faith, so afterwards, I cannot be convinced that whatever faith I might feel is not some insanity invented by my mind in order to avoid despair. I do have what I consider to be reasonable and meaningful ideas of God, which are not dependent on any religious tradition (although they are informed by religious traditions), but I cannot prove that any of them are right. I just like to imagine them and live according to them, because that seems like the most reasonable thing to do.
    When it comes to matters of preference (such as "I like vanilla"), believing a thing makes it true. So, it seems to me to be within my power to invent whatever meaning I like, and so long as it is not demonstrably in contradiction with sensory evidence or with logic, no one has the power to tell me that I'm wrong. I could assert, for instance, "That is a beautiful sky. Seeing this alone has made the day worth it," and if I believe it, it becomes true, and I do not need unverifiable supernatural claims as a foundation. Having a supernatural base for a system of values is helpful for unifying one's thoughts into a system, and I speculate on this, as I said, but I can prove only very little.
    I do not believe anything with certainty that I can't verify myself, because most people who have ever lived (including Christians) have been liars. So, I will not believe the gospel the same way as I believe that I am sitting here typing on my keyboard, until I see some kind of comprehensible miracle or another pointing in the direction of a particular religious doctrine.

    The Catholic and Orthodox churches have historically both claimed exclusivity. In other words, if you're not in the church, you're not saved. But making sense of which church is the right one would require one to be an expert on church history, which does not seem fair. Also, so far as I can tell, the logic used by both sides already by the first church schism was not sound. In other words, I believe that neither the Eastern nor Oriental orthodox were guided by the holy spirit when they split. But even if I'm wrong on that point, that is an issue of misunderstanding arcane Christology and church history from a long time ago, and it does not seem fair to make my salvation dependent on this. I used to be Eastern Orthodox, but now I disbelieve that any church actually speaks for God. The churches that have a sound church tradition have contradictions in their claims, and the churches with looser dogma do not even know what they believe.
    Suppose a king wants to send an important message to all his subjects. At first, there is only one message and one interpretation of the message, but the process of copying and relaying the message made a number of contradictory versions by the time it reaches peasants in the most distant parts of the kingdom. Suppose there is one peasant who receives several different versions of the king's order, and he says, "I don't believe that any of you speak for the king. You are trying to deceive me somehow. Go away." If the king passes by this peasant on a journey and learns of this situation, should he punish the peasant?

      This is incorrect- The EO church states they do not claim to know who is going to heaven, and do not claim that you have to be EO to get there. Of course they believe theirs is the true teaching (would be ridiculous and illogical if they taught a teaching they didn’t know was true or not) but that shouldn’t be confused with the status of souls outside of Orthodoxy. There are other ways to have knowledge of Truth besides researching history- I know many converts who were not compelled by research but by experience. But if history matters to you, the information is there. May God bless and guide you I pray!

      The Qur'an is not full of wisdom but instead full of Satanic verses that Allah had to cancel out since Satan was able to trick Muhammed into adding them. We don't even have any guarantee that Allah actually canceled out those verses since it could just as easily have been Satan adding that verse to make us lower our guards and trust the foolish Qur'an. Allah is a weak god, Muhammed is a false prophet who fabricated verses, and Satan is the master of both of them. Do some research on the Qur'an and your "prophet" he is not a servant of God, that much we can be sure of.

      If you are willfully ignorant of the Word of God, do not speak on it. God can use and change anyone according to his will. As a fellow Christian, it reminds us about the life of Saint Paul and his sin of murdering many Christians yet, and still God took him as a servant and made him a minister to the people. Fr. Seraphim repented of his sin of homosexuality and if you simply did a quick Google search or look on Wikipedia, you would know that he was ashamed of his past sins and did those things as an unbeliever and a lost man.
      Let us not be quick judge our brothers and sisters of past sins which God hath forgiven while our own sins remain countless. Rather, judge, rebuke, and reprove each other while we are in the body of Christ and error in our ways. Finally, let us lift each other up in love and hold our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to high standards while continually searching our own hearts for any evil desire, asking our Lord to remove those things, and impute righteousness and faith that we may endure till the end and be saved.
