Fishing the remote socal kelp beds and tide pools in Santa Barbara Ca

- I hadn’t been to this particular spot a lot this year and i saw the conditions were going to be great for accessing the low lying tide pools and shallow kelp beds that make up a large portion of the coastal ecosystem here in Santa Barbara. These areas can be hard to access unless the tide is suer low but are worth exploring as they are home to all kinds of marine wildlife native to this area
On this day i did more exploring and scouting than actual fishing. I didn’t see too many fish but there was life everywhere. It’s such a cool and unique experience to be able to walk into the pools like this. It’s important to be careful where you step and try as best you can not to disturb the local inhabitants

Used to live down in that area. Saw a halibut that was recklessly chasing baitfish go flying clear above my fishing buddy's head while we were standing only knee deep in the kelp.
It’s always so wild when they go airborne like that!
do you have much luck with catching halibut in the summer? I'd given up targeting them and have been sight fishing for corbina (not much luck there either, hard fish to catch). I've figured that my approach of relying on jerkbaits in the surf probably isn't seasonally wise so I started fishing heavier structure like this near me. I'm fishing weedless texas and hitting pockets, no halibut but I caught some nice rockfish. I like the style of your videos, cheers!
Ya summer time when the waters warm up is really when the halibut season kicks off here
Corbina are thick in the shallows as well and are worth targeting. As you said a super hard fish to catch! They put up a fight tho

What spot in santa barbara? I fish there every week but have been looking for a spot like this for halibut and wsb
