    You are up and coming my friend! You're good at this! You're going to be big on CZcams. Keep up the good work!
    I could learn from you but I'm lazy and just always buy new. To make it worse, I buy one thing and then decide I want a different thing. I'm very inefficient, I make mistakes, and it's taking me forever to complete my theater. I have made some progress over the past few days so I will post an update video soon but I really wish I was as good at getting deals as you are.

      Thanks for the kind words. I look forward to your updates as I've watched your videos and I find your home theater pretty interesting. I also understand being lazy when it comes to looking for new equipment, but I also really like finding a bargain. It just takes a little time to look round and usually there's some good deals out there waiting to be found.

    One of the best images I've ever seen has been out of a Digital Projection Highlite 3 chip dlp projector at a clients house.

      Thanks. I recently purchased a Samsung phone, with a pretty good camera on it, for dirt cheap. It's much better then my nearly 10 year old iPhone. I'm going to use it exclusively for this channel. I also have spent a good deal of time watching videos on lighting and filming with a phone. Just trying to get my production values up a little bit.

    Looking forward to the calibration video. I tinker with the presets on my projector a lot. Some content looks better with different settings. Dark vs bright content for example.

      Thanks, hopefully the calibration video will be easy enough to follow as I'm planning on doing basic stuff and nothing too in depth.

    So in your opinion is it better to watch something like House of the Dragon/Game of Thrones that is notorious for moody dark night scenes on the Knoll or Marantz Projector?

    • @2ndHandHomeTheater
      @2ndHandHomeTheater  Před měsícem

      The Marantz is the pick. Since it has a much better black floor, and at least to me, a much more dynamic image, that's the projector to use. The Knoll is good, but the black levels are not low enough to get the best out of a series like House of the Dragon.

  • @EverythingHomeTheater

    Crazy... I didn't even know Marantz made projectors

    • @2ndHandHomeTheater
      @2ndHandHomeTheater  Před měsícem

      They only made projectors up until around 2010 or 2011. These were pretty high-class units in the early to mid 2000s.

    Why do they call the Knoll LED1081 Projector "LED" when it's a DLP?

    • @2ndHandHomeTheater
      @2ndHandHomeTheater  Před 28 dny

      That's a good question. They call it an LED projector because it uses 3 LEDs as the light source instead of a lamp. DLP is just the image processing technology.

    This is the issue I have with older used projectors: the output just isn’t there. I’m at the point now where I really wouldn’t go with anything under 2500 lumens in 3LCD or 3000 lumens in DLP- and I have a fully blacked out room pushing a neutral 120” screen. That’s if you’re placing any emphasis on 4K/HDR. But the deal you got is pretty insane.

    • @2ndHandHomeTheater
      @2ndHandHomeTheater  Před měsícem

      The lack of lumens can be concerning as I think a lot of people would agree that more lumens is better; especially for a larger screen or HDR. At least for someone like me and my setup, the lower lumen count isn't that bad in person. I think I've just become accustomed to it over the years.

    • @michael-4k4000
      @michael-4k4000 Před 29 dny

      U need at least 2,500 nits to get a moderately bright picture, and that depends on screen size. The larger your screen the more lumens u need to keep the same brightness.

    I actually would prefer the lower light. Projectors give me headaches

    • @2ndHandHomeTheater
      @2ndHandHomeTheater  Před 28 dny

      There are some benefits to lower light. Eye strain being a big one. It's all just a matter of preference, but once you get used to the lower light output, it can seem really dynamic.

    just goes to show you dont spend on high end audio because in a few years something new always comes out and that same unit you just spent a lot of money , now has dropped in price ... now i like to buy new rather than bargain prices but i dont go crazy ..

    I will say this, I wish I would've gotten something like that projector instead of the piece of crap refurbished Epson 2250 I have now. I bought a refurb 2250 for $650 shipped from Epson, and I'm on my second one and it still won't focus right. I am sending the replacement back to try again and hopefully get one that doesn't look like total shit.

    • @2ndHandHomeTheater
      @2ndHandHomeTheater  Před měsícem

      Sorry to hear about your projector issues. This is a key reason why I enjoy posting these videos. So much of this older technology gets overlooked or thrown to the side. People just assume that older stuff is automatically not worth buying, when in reality, it can be the complete opposite. There's always risks when buying an older projector, for example, but if you find a quality unit for cheap, the reward is so much better. I hope my channel can help people realize this and find a second life for these older units,
