  • Momma turkey has hatched out a nice bunch of baby chickens for us, got 11 in total, there very strong and doing good, there much stronger than the ones we bought (which are the parents of theses guys) so hopefully we well have some strong healthy chickens to add to the laying flock.

My dad used to use bantams to hatch out pheasant and partridge chicks. He preferred bantams as surrogate mothers as they were smaller and lighter, partridge chicks are not much bigger than bumble-bees when newly hatched 😊

I have never had bantams but I have been told there are easy to go broody and they make very good moms.

Cutesville here, 11 baby chicks!!!! She's definitely a good Momma Turkey, first I heard of people switching chicken or duck eggs to turkey hens was my maternal grandma, she also liked to put duck eggs under her hens, when the ducklings would walk past a pond on my gramps' farm, all the ducklings would enter the water and the mother hen was so frantic and worried about her babies drowning in the cold, murky water, nothing happened unless there was an ol' snapper turtle, then rest assured before the day was over all the ducklings would have been eatened by the snapper! Ahhh,...such cute balls of brown down!

Looked it up for you; your Gold-star mama turkey is about upper-middle-aged. In captivity, domestic turkeys can live up to a little shy of 10 years, so 4-5 is up there, but not ancient. She might still have 2, maybe even 3 more good years of mothering in her, with good care. :) Thank you for ending the video on baby chickie cuteness

Really, do people really say stuff like that? wow. In the wild, animals do the same thing. In the USA we have a bird called a Cow Bird and she is a very lazy sorry mom. She proves it by the way she gets her babies hatched. She finds an Eastern Bluebird nesting in a house and throws the bluebirds eggs out and lays hers and the bluebird hatches and raises them. Also, as you know sometimes when a monkey loses her baby she will grab a cat/kitten to replace it. Stuff happens like that all the time. Some moms are just better than others. The place looks much better so much poop moved in a short time. Take it easy in that heat.
