- By the end of this lecture, you will be able to know:
The definition of epidermal cyst.
The true synonyms of the cyst.
The pathophysiology of the cyst formation.
Ultrasound features of the intact and complicated cyst.
Review some cases from daily clinical practice.
Epidermal inclusion cysts are the most common cutaneous cysts.
Numerous synonyms for epidermal inclusion cysts exist, including epidermoid cyst, epidermal cyst, infundibular cyst, inclusion cyst, and keratin cyst.
The cyst contains keratin, not sebum. They also do not originate from sebaceous glands; so, epidermal inclusion cysts are not sebaceous cysts. The term sebaceous cyst should not be used to describe epidermoid cyst.
Ultrasound appearance depend on maturation of cyst and amount of keratin as well as presence of cyst rupture and degree of cyst collapse.

I think I have one on my neck at the base of my hair line. It's about 2 (American) quarters and sort of painful to the touch and certain neck movement. It's frustrating the hell out of me, and debating what sort of doctor I can see to remove it. Most dermatologist here in NYC are booked solid until 2022. Should I just get my wife to drain it out with a sanitize medical tweezers. Sucks!!
ok but how are they caused? what causes them to form? modern medicine ignores this
Posterior acoustic enhancement= Epidermoid cyst
