Check out my recent video about my Canon R5 C rig: czcams.com/video/LnTB3TqjlWo/video.htmlsi=l-ddIhNwyZxK26db
That was really helpful especially the monitor/microphone setup and the SmallRig products you used to fix this small problem!
Wow man, that’s pretty good. Your Battery Guide vid is the best for the R5C👌✨
This was very helpful! I really like your build. I’m going to try to build a similar rig for my R5. Thanks for all the info!
This was VERY helpful. Thanks! And I’ll be looking forward to more helpful videos as these! Thanks again!
This is a brilliant build
Thank YOU! That Battery Hinge comes in clutch. My run n gun rig is very similar to this. Your advice really helped out tho when i was getting all the parts together
Love the rig and solutions
Learned a lot from this video! Thank you!
Awesome! Nice job!
Sehr interessant! Ich bastel mir gerade in kleinen Schritten ein Rig für meine R6 zusammen und lerne daher viel von den verschiedenen Varianten, das eigene Rig zu gestalten.
That’s pretty nice!
Exactly what I was looking for .
Couldn’t find the monitor mount and the aluminum rods
Great rig, very helpful! May I ask, what’s the weight of the whole rig?
Greaaattt video man..👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very useful video! Thanks! 😀 Liked 👍🏻 Subscribed ⭐️
What minimalist bag would you recommend for the camera already rigged and ready to go?
Love your video, congratulations! Now working on replicating your setup ;)
Really nice and helpful video. I just have one question: how long does the battery last you shooting 4k60p ?
I can say that I get 9 hours at 4K 24fps.
Hello Johannes, thank you for your very helpful video on building your R5C rig. I have recreated it very largely like this, but I still have a problem: if I want to attach the plate for my (Sachtler) tripod to the clamp with two or three screws, then the camera is at a right angle to the rig. When I want to align the camera parallel, I can only attach the tripod plate to the clamp with a screw, which might be a little unsafe. Am I making any mistake in thinking? Do you have another tip? Thanks in advance Ralf
Sorry for the late reply. Well, I have the same problem actually since I bought the big SmallRig tripod with fluid head. It seems like those tripods use the arca swiss plate in the direction of the lens axis, not the camera body, which surprised me because this is incompatible with arca swiss plates integrated into camera cages. You would probably need another rod block to give your plate more support, or mount an additional arca swiss clamp on the tripod that is rotated.
Been debating going with this R5C or Nikon's Z9 for weeks now.
Think Z9 is best for me especially since I have not invested into any lens ecosystem.
Cannot help with that, as I haven't used Nikon, but enjoy the freedom of choice since you don't have any lenses yet!
Thank you for the informative video. Do you have experience with the power connection via USB-C? Except for RAW LT 50p, I can't get any of the other RAW versions with 50p with my rig (R5 C + 24-70 + FXLION NANO ONE + SUNGUY USB C 3.2 Gen 100W) via USB-C power supply? Maybe you have an idea and/or tip for me? Thanks in advance :-)
Love From India 🇮🇳
Great video! Would this rig work seamlessly with a DJI RS3 Gimbal? Thanks
Check out my other videos about gimbals and the R5C :)
Great video! Any chance for a version with the BG R10 battery grip attached?
Not planning to get one right now, I’m sorry.
@@johannesdoerr No worries, thanks for the reply! Is it because the camera is solely used for video shooting and being powered by the V-Mount battery? I've seen most rigs people make is without the battery grip.
@@pr1sm55 I use the camera also for photo, but not with this rig. That rig is indeed only for video. For photo, the internal battery is enough for my needs, and I just use the bare camera body. And instead of using a battery grip, I would just quickly insert the second battery when the first one is empty. The grip has an advantage though for shooting vertically because of the additional grip + controls. If I got a grip, it would probably be the WFT file transmitter grip, but it is too expensive in my opinion, so I'm keeping my hopes up that Canon will update the firmware to add Wifi options in video mode.
great!Having trouble with auto focus noise getting into the audio?
Not with the RF 24-105 f4L, it is very quiet
If you want a cage, that doesn't block the Canon filter adapter (so you can replace the filters, while you have the cage on the camera), then you want the Kondor Blue R5C specific cage, that's coming out soon.
🙌🏻🙌🏻 I’m 100% going to get this. Solves my biggest beef with every r5 cage
@@topherwallace1960 Mine is coming on Thursday. B&H are finally shipping them. Looking so forward to this.
The Kondor Blue R5C Cage is definitely OP. Their camera body caps are fucking solid.
@5:52 did you mention rubber kink? I’m searching for the right terminology for the rubber protection but no luck.
Thanks for the video
I think it’s „kink protection“
@@johannesdoerr I found “cable relief”, cheers
Quick question, did you aver remove the r5c Side Flaps for better use in a cage like the smallrig? Greetings
Are you talking about those rubber things? No, too afraid :)
@@johannesdoerr Yepp exactly at my bmcc i took them away for the cage. But i have no idea how it works at the r5c
Like the rig set up. How much did it all cost in a ball park figure.
I would say, $600 (+ camera)
@@johannesdoerr My memory cost more than that? hmmm
I am apprehensive about getting an external monitor for my R5C because someone on CZcams said - and this could be wrong info - that the touchscreen functionality of the R5C (the touch screen to focus) will not transfer over to external monitor nor be available at all on the original monitor? Is this true - lose autofocus in exchange for an external monitor? Doesn't make sense because then why would anyone get an external monitor? Looking for final answer on this and the recommended monitor asap for a shoot! do you know for sure what the case is?
You will not loose autofocus, but tap to focus. The reason why you would get a monitor anyway is because you use the joystick to change the zone, the face selection via the data ring, or manual focus.
Becareful of the SmallRig hand strap as it does not grip the strap. I had to tie it to stop the strap just sliding out. Eventually I went for another make.
Good to know, thanks!
@@johannesdoerr I went for the Peak Design CL-3 eventually and threw the SmallRig in the bin. The last thing I needed was it coming undone while I was carrying the camera. Also the SmallRig cages like most others will not allow you to remove the filter if you have the EF adapter with filter slide on. The only way to remove the filter is by removing the lens and the adapter. I did contact SmallRig about this and they never reply even though they then bring out more cages for the R5 & R6 without modify it.
Tipps von Profi! Hab jetzt mal recherchiert wer du bist, wow! Naja, ich schlage mich hier noch mit billig Licht rum, da ich erstmal schauen wollte, wie weit ich damit komme. Bald gönne ich mir was Besseres ;)
@@johannesdoerr Ich hab dich abonniert mach weiter so wir lernen doch am Ende alle täglich was dazu und lehren uns gegenseitig… das einzige was ich mir nicht mehr so gerne angucke ist das ständig schlechte Gerede über technologische Entwicklungen… sprich was die Cam kann und was nicht… anstatt einfach mal ‚n paar nice Pics und Vids damit zu machen…
hi. I came across such a problem. when I power the camera through exactly the same dtap, the camera does not turn on after switching off and I have to take out the cord and insert it again, and only then it can turn on again.
Hello Nikita
Have you found a solution to your R5C power supply problem with the D-tap?
Thanks for your feedback
I must be kind of an asshole but the content is really good and u r a perfect capable filmaker to not over expose the top angle shot xddddddd. Amazing content.
Yeah, I’m not proud of those top angle shots at all. I exposed so that the camera pieces were well lit, but then the hands turned out too bright… should have made a few more test shots. Since I’m showing all my equipment, there was only my little EOS RP left for the actual recording, so I had no big screen or exposure tools. So much for my defense :)
Do you get 8k 60fps with the dummy battery with power to the lens also? If not, a v mount battery with a pd usb-c connection is a better solution. Nice rig otherwise!
Weird story… I had the “lens does not work” problem, so Alvin’s Cables promised me to send a fixed version. I received that today, but it has the same problem. I’ll keep you updated.
@@johannesdoerr I don’t think the R5c will ever be able to receive 9 volts from the battery compartment, it’s not set up that way. You need 9V 5A power delivery via USB-C. FXlion makes v mount batteries that are great for this purpose.
The canon dr-e6c dummy battery supports that according to the Power Navigation function in the R5C, so I don’t think that there is such a limitation on the camera side.
@@johannesdoerr there is a new canon dummy battery coming soon specifically for the R5c, called the dr-e6c, but the official site says “only provides power in photo mode”, and only “9V 3A anyway. I’m pretty sure canon is forcing us to use usb power delivery. Furthermore, 8k 60fps raw will only work with RF lenses anyway, EF won’t work ever.
@@volkom91 where did you find the limitation on 8k60 raw for RF lenses only? Never heard of that.
How much the Rig cost?
But the biggest benefit for me, EVF, is now hidden.
I actually don't use the view finder at all because I wear glasses and think it's uncomfortable. However, I tried it once anyway and have to say that it gives a different (probably better) feel of the image you're capturing...
@@johannesdoerr EVFs have a higher resolution that LCD screens. EVFs are an absolute must if shooting in bright sunlight (sports, outdoor ceremonies, etc.)
do you have problems with the d tab cable for the fake battery? I have a Fxlion Nano ONE 14.8V / 50WH V-Lock battery is that ok?
No problem, works perfectly for me.
Hello ET-créateur
Have you found a solution to your R5C power supply problem with the D-tap?
Thanks for your feedback
@@didierillouz1219it’s work with Alvin’s cable
Also keine richtigen Exposure tools oder so… :)
How long can you Film with this battery?

That dummy battery does not do 8k60. I know I asked the manufacture. So not all problems solved and that is the main, only issue for me.
Yes, unfortunately, they could not make it work for 60fps Raw
👍🏾🙏🏾
The cage isnt good tbh. it has only locating screws at the bottom. Thats why the camera still can move
That is true. I think they have other options now that attach at the top as well.
One flaw is that the lcd screen is now hidden away,
Yes, but the battery hinge makes it accessible easily
That over exposed killed my eyes
I’m so sorry… next one will be better :)
All problems solved?
What about the rediculous mini hdmi and the lack of ibis?
I can live with the micro hdmi… bigger problem is the missing Wi-Fi in video mode. Lack of IBIS is also ok. I talked about all of this in my R5C review video in case you’re interested.
the only thing it doesnt solve is if you want to shoot hybrid. It will take ages removing the rig for photography
It doesn’t take too long actually, but I‘d still rather bring two cameras. IMO, the R5C is hybrid in a sense that it can get both jobs done, but not necessarily at the same time, and that is totally fine for me
Can you make it this rig for me I will pay you
Hehe, I can only help to to buy the right parts. Did you see the part list in the video description?
Too big, I solved all the problemas getting the camera to basics, I just bought 5 canon batteries and I have been shooting stock video and stills and I never use more than 3 batteries in a single day, but it depends your flow, I did a Studio shot that of course i needed that kind of setup
Some people don't like the R5C because when rigged up, it's as big as a cinema camera. However, I like to have the option to go small as well, as you say. A couple of extra internal battery can work, too, when the task allows. I even got the Canon microphone (see my DM-E1D video) for a super small setup.
absolute waste of time if the R5c focusing is bad. C'mon Canon!
Is it really so bad for you?
😂 all problems solved 12 Grand later lmao just buy a Sony.
Classic comment :-P
