Morrison could've been a top babyface if Vince invested in him more. He's very well-liked, can work a great match, always in top shape, and clean-cut.
Could have been a great shawn Michael's type character
I respectfully disagree with you, I’ve always felt that Morrison lacked something.
After aew opened its doors I was completely convinced that if Vince didn’t push someone, that someone completely sucked. Harper, Cody, Ambrose and Rusev made it blatantly obvious why they were never the top guy once they were “freed from the creative shackles” of wwe.
@@jjbass3141 You don't think Jon Moxley can never be a top guy? I thought he has been doing a great job since he came to AEW at being the face of the company. Everyone else you named I definitely agree with though.
@@lukethomasdillon3762 his charisma is very different from Shawn Michaels
@@jjbass3141 Mox is a top guy
So no one is going to mention how nothing about the “not selling” aspect of the match wasn’t brought up once in this clip. It was only about the match itself and how Morrison felt about it and how he feels about Aries. I feel like I clicked for nothing.
straight up like good on Morrison for not sinking himself to talking shit (kind of mirroring how WWE never acknowledges TNA even though they constantly took potshots) but yeah, JOMO tiptoeing around talking about the match only to slip in that Aries ended up working himself is not what I expected.
@@jac0736 why would they bring up tna they have no reason to
@@tobywilliams2939 TNA & WWE were at war for years and would always take shots at eachother on their programs, Especially TNA wrestlers who used to work for WWE. Now its just AEW copying everything WWE while WWE ignores them.
@@Triple-Four how were they at war when they took place on two different nights and wwe always pulled in more viewers ? that’s like saying aew and wwe are at war , if they companies aren’t neck and neck in the views happening at the same time and an actual feud established(see wwe vs wcw from 95-01) it’s not a war
@@Triple-Four more like tna was at war with wwe, and wwe couldn't care less lol.
Alot more down to earth than he's ever portrayed in wwe. Actually like listening to him
He’s playing a character in WWE (and elsewhere) not himself as such
He’s a playing a character, MARK
???? LOL
Watch survivor he’s awesome
Showed that in Survivor as well
John Morrison and Shelton Benjamin were two of my favorites to watch growing up. Each had S Tier ability but were never properly utilized by creative.
Morrison and Benjamin are great athletes and awesome performers in the ring. I really enjoy their matches.
But unfortunately both aren't really good on the mic.
Morrison is technically a world champ. Shelton never was sadly
Shelton is one of the best ever in the ring. But character wise he just wasn't special but he's also one of those guys who is widely regarded as a wrestler.
The saddest part about the whole thing is that Aries has screwed himself hugely. John didn't deserve that kind of disrespect but the the match as a whole was insane!
So basically the only reason he did it was because he got too invested in what was happening?
That's what it sounded like to me but I'm an idiot
It was a WORK you mark!!

who isn’t ? besides ppl you can count on one hand
Yeah he definitely wasn’t in a main stream, Highly promoted match WM.
@@ESWShockwave he should be if you watch some of his matches in Impact Wrestling he was the main event there.
I think he's hurt which may be he hasn't prominently featured. He's been moving very stiff lately
Hes there for a paycheck, I don't think he cares about his spot too much
John handled this quite well. But I do love him essentially saying that Aries worked himself. Great dig without making it really seem like it.
Its also a pretty good description of what happened. Airies was trying to be a dick and get heat for the match but worked himself into a bad position when he disrespected Johny's wife Taya which is where the heat between them became legit.
Give this man the world title already !
VKM: "NO CHANCE!!!"

Lol no chance. Not in WWE.
@@yeastydynasty why? Have you seen some of the guys they've made champion in recent years? Other than lesnar and reigns of course

Such a class act. He could've buried Austin here and I wouldn't have blamed him but instead he took the bigger road and remained humble. Johnny is still a star while Austin... not so much. Always liked the level-headedness John has in interviewers, very likeable guy
Crazy how IMPACT has had their hand on some superstar calibre athlete/wrestler

I loved how he uses the Doors quote
Me too. Taught me something.
Of course he would, he's a less obnoxious, far more athletic Jim Morrison.
Or he wants to be.
They were a shitty band and honestly, he's just about as overrated.
Good mind for the business, but he's like Ziggler.

Aries claims that the ending was a work but he wasn’t called back by impact afterwards
I heard this before too wonder it Its true
He also said he does not remember doing it because he had a concussion he is lying
Immediately after the match the Impact cameras were focused on what Aries was doing rather than the winner Morrison. That's not normal direction for pro-wrestling.
@@cookslooking10 so I'd assume that would mean it IS a work, otherwise why would the cameras focus on it? Or maybe they just fucked up bc they got confused ig?
@@shaeisgae8952 I feel it's strong evidence it was a work. When it comes to wrestling it usually is.
Morrison is a hell of a athlete and wrestler
100%
I wish he wouldn't use that weakass fisher tho. The flipping ddt was better
@@jairusdavis3619 It was a modified corkscrew neckbreaker aka Moonlight Drive. His starship pain is surprisingly more accurate than people give his credit for. He can hit it accurately and be a 10/10, but it can look bad if the other person is out of position. I like Starship Pain, but Moonlight Drive is the OG move they need to put over again
John seems like such a cool guy to be freinds with
Morrison is one hell of a talent in and out of the ring! Even his WWE run he looks GREAT!
He could be one of the top heel world champions if they built him up correctly. Think about how he was when he was Johnny Mundo feuding with Prince Puma (Aka Ricochet, who there absolutely waisting as well). It was gold. It's a crime how these guys are being used.
I liked Mundos work in LU. When he turned heel he was the same guy, but angry and willing to take things too far to win.
LU did a great job getting around wrestlers weaknesses and make them
look strong for American audiences.
Morrison always had unlimited potential and WWE never fully got behind him as a character or as a performer. He seems well adjusted and down to earth and he genuinely cares about pro wrestling. John is easily one of the biggest missed opportunity stars WWE could’ve used and made a top guy. Austin Aries is a great all around performer and wrestler but he truly worked himself. He gets in his own way and that’s why he never lasts anywhere.
John needs a world title run in wwe that isn't pooped on like the Miz's run / maybe even Kofi.
There's no way it's gonna happen now unfortunately. At least he's got his Lucha Underground title reign in the books. The only place where you got to see him jump from the stands into the ring. Johnny Mundo was the best version of Johnny.
Yeah, unfortunately he'll never get a world title shot. At least not a real run. BUT, he can have a great midcard run with either the IC or US belt.
Morrison is someone that I've always wanted to get a Push, and since Miz and Morrison might get split, I hope he gets pushed for a title, hopefully a world title, something that he hasn't had in his career with WWE. The fans, we love him, his wrestling is top-notch, and skill is out of this world.
This dude kicks ass
This is respect for the business

John Morrison is one of my favorite superstar!! I really appreciate his work in WWE with The Miz: great matches, very funny and epic moments. This is Wrestling! Thank You John!
That moment after John Morrison won is so popular in the wrestling world
He is so diplomatic in his answer. You can tell he just wants to say "fork that guy!"
Class act, awesome guy and a great professional.
Austin Aries as a wrestler? One of the best.
Austin Aries as a person? 😬😬😬
Just like CM Punk.
@@Tranceplant82 disagree, Punk just likes to keep to himself he seems like a cool dude. Meanwhile Austin Aries a COVID/mask denialist and yelled at his fans for wearing masks at his autograph signings. Not to mention using his celebrity platform to tell people the vaccine kills more people than the virus itself.
Completely different scenario
@@sagnikmustafi2374 well maybe he doesn't want to touch strangers hands 🤷🏻♂️ Not everybody likes that, especially in the middle of a pandemic.
that line sound like straight from paul heyman shoot on Chris Benoit
@@sagnikmustafi2374 sorry man, but you're not owed physical contact so respect his boundaries 🤷🏻♂️ Everybody has different levels of comfort. You see Europeans kissing strangers on the cheek, or people hugging strangers. However many people, myself included, would rather not touch some strangers hands. Idk what you did in the bathroom, and trust me most guys don't actually wash their hands. Can't hardly blame the guy.
I’ve always been a big Austin Aries fan but unfortunately he’s his own worst enemy (so much so it’s basically at the point that he’s black balled from the wrestling industry). It’s a shame because he is still in great shape and can still go in the ring and would be a great asset to any organization.
So basically Hangman Page is a low-key version of Aries?
@@Travybear1989 how so?
Actually aries is a low key cm punk
@@julien2231 I believe there was a certain someone who went into business first. Not everybody is gonna be as nice as Morrison was about the Austin Aries situation
awesome Interview,
I agree with his thoughts on Kayfabe. In WWE it’s almost impossible to suspend disbelief anymore. There is a way to make it feel more real than manufactured. Most of the time NXT succeeds on making you suspend. Maybe once Vince steps down NXT will start to bleed into the main product and make it better.
Really solid dude and OTHERWORLDY talent! Always has been! I wish WWE would give him they type of run commensurate w/his skill in the ring! Even into his 40's , more athletic than most of the roster could dream .

Fascinating listening to this once again I remember when it first happened I immediately thought I don't have any respect for Austin Aries you just don't do stuff like that looking back I still 100% feel the same way
After Mania 37. Miz and Morrison are must have talents for WWE.
Man that match was nuts Austin is so unpredictable and unstable and felt good and great but also too insider if you know what I mean. Haha so I guess... who knows I can’t explain it and John rocks
Morrison is easily top 3 most athletic guys in wwe right now and super underutilized. Imma need him to get a I.C or World title run ASAP.
John should start his own podcast where he interviews wrestlers and other entertainers. I enjoy listening to him speak.
With Vince opening the kayfabe curtain to keep his ass out of jail, I find the rare rivalries that can make me believe again to be the most compelling. The Matt Hardy/Sammy Guevara feud also falls into this category. They traded blood, bruises, scars, and hospital visits all for the suspension of disbelief. People still wonder if the heat was legit or if they were just playing it up for the dirtsheets.
John has a great look but I would love him to find that believability once again like this match he has with Aries. It felt very legit and I think Austin got the best out of him despite his conflicting personality.
Love how he mentioned the doors bringing it full circle how he got his name
Nice clip. But hwat about the no sell?
That match was the last pro wrestling match I actually "believed" in. The beginning of the match where they are brawling still looks like a shoot to me.
Watch Cody vs Dustin.
Bro, watch anything Naito or Okada do.
Watch Giulia. She makes everyyything come off as a shoot.
@@263malice I've watched Cody/Dustin and was big into Okada when NJPW was on AxsTV; and yes, they were good in the ring. But I BELIEVED Austin/Morrison actually hated each other. The way that they built it with Austin going heel on Twitter and the brawl at the press conference, by the time the match happened I whole-heartedly believed they had heat. I still don't know. And neither wrestlers have 100 percent dropped kayfabe about it, which keeps the intrigue.
@@stagglee1227
I mean, everyone hates Austin, though. The guys a dickhead. If you want “backstage heat” watch Michaels/Hogan. Matches like that are lame because the actors can’t get out of their own way. As we saw with Morrison/Aries.
I like Chris's shirt shirt.
I believe Hulk Hogan has said before, “Marks who don’t know it’s a work when they’re working a work and they end up working themselves into a shoot.”
Morrison looks huge in this video interview as I never realized how large his arms are because the television camera makes him look much smaller than this camera in the interview and I know it was two years ago so he might not be as big anymore but definitely looked solid in this video
Johnny impact being oh so diplomatic. Well done Mr morrison.
The fact that he likes the doors just makes me a bigger fan of his
how informative!
If Morrison won’t be in the main event soon, he should go to aew
The Doors got their name from an Aldous Huxley quote......Once The Doors Of Perception Are Cleansed, Man Can See Things As They Truly Are, Infinite.
John Morrison is so severely underrated. They need to just let him get to the inevitable feud with Miz and let him go solo. Hopefully when Taya gets brought up from NXT they will pair them as a super couple. Give Morrison a few belt runs and Taya a woman's championship.
I've always liked the mystery opponent gimmick the most. I love when the wrestler desperately wants to know and then I'm surprised too.
Austin Aries was never seen in a top promotion again
He's right. Professional wrestling is only really magical when they allow you to suspend your disbelief. It's almost a dead art entirely.
Nice touch referencing The Doors
John is such a cool dude always liked him
That was one of the best matches ever
100 agree wrestling now in days sent as good as they use to be
Morrison in lucha underground was his best version
John has the potential to become a top guy in any company. He is damn good in the mic. Shame how vince treated him compared to how miz was treated.
where the part where you discuss the no sell? that's the title of the video wtf?
John Morrison should have been the Next Shawn Michaels
His in ring is amazing. Lacks the mic skills and facial expressions for selling that shawn had
@@howboutdaaattt3991 True.
A good manager would have made him believable, if managers were a thing anymore.
@@remylucai God I wish they were. Tons of guys got over because of people like The Brain or even Scary Sherry. It can add so much to a match as well. The only one left is Heyman. Honestly the business is doomed to be mediocre until kayfabe is back and back for a decent amount of time.
Reminded me of when Bret hart turned heel and said bullshit on TV back in 97
Austin and sid vicious and undertaker came in...that was badass
Love him working a doors quote into it
pretty interesting take on why this match was so good. when real life and fake lifes cross over more than they should you get genuine moments of tension from even the wrestlers. Similar to stone cold and shawn back in their wrestlemania match truly it does build a story line to remember when not even the wrestlers themselves are certain if they are gonna win the main event match for the world title or get cucked by politics like the great Hollywood Hogan.
This channel is a smart idea
Not even going to talk about the no sell at the end???
Morrison around 2011 could've faced the Miz for the WWE Championship at Mania 27. He didn't need to headline but you could've totally made it where Cena could do something else that involved the Rock in someway, while Morrison and Miz could've had their big moment together.

2:29 Tell That to the EDDIE EDWARDS VS SAMI CALLAHAN FEUD IN 2018
Dude plays a hell of a Winter Soldier.
He deserves better in WWE. He was underutilized during his first run in WWE & his 2nd run hasn't really gone anywhere apart from winning the Smackdown tag titles
Sounds like it was all a work. Bring Aries back wrestling. He’s one of the best in my eyes.
Given Aries' reputation of being a miserable worker to be around who complains about everything, I highly doubt this was a work. Especially because when Morrison noticed him no selling, he seemed genuinely disappointed and annoyed.
If it is a work, then it's extremely stupid on both Aries' and Impact's end. Why would you think just popping up and no selling an entire match after somebody wins the championship is a smart idea? Like who is supposed to look good or what does anybody gain from this?
Dude with must upddo respect... Aries has pattern of behaviour for throwing a hissy fit if something doesn't go his way I doubt any sane company wants to hire such diva ... Plus he is ant-vaxx and conspiracy spewer ... Yes there is a freedom of speech but there's also consequences and spreading misinformation should not be tolerated..... Also constantly plays the victim when somebody calls him out so… Why would anyone should give him a time for day knowing his attitude? In Old days he. would be chewed out by the big guys due to his attitude...
Totally agree!
Everything he said in this clip is spot on! Johnny has always been a great, not good, worker in the ring! He has the look, the swag, the in-ring skills!!! Wwe especially, but Hes never fully gotten the treatment he deserves/has earned! I know hes def has success, just saying, it feels like He always gets taken sway from the Best/Main Event Storylines/feuds/Main event scene wayyyyy to fast!
John is trying to act like this was a worked shoot, but Aries' track record speaks for itself. He's a diva that throws a tantrum if he doesn't constantly have a belt around his waist. Him and Low Ki would rather make $200 an appearance with a belt in their hands than $2 million a year without one.
Have seen the forementioned . Prior to the match Aries was commenting on Morrison and his wife Taya Valkyrie appearing on TMZ about some comment made by Aries to where Aries responded and Morrison and Taya confronted him and were broken up by security .Match time you could just feel that this was going to get ugly . The whole match Aries and Morrison shooting and no selling eachother ,even Aries throwing comments at Taya who was at ringside . Aries gets knocked by a move by Morrison who hits his finisher Starship Pain and pins him to win the Impact World Title . Aries then jumps up and yells towards a balcony "Is this what you wanted ?" and leaves . Guess Aries saw the writing on the wall knowing he was going to lose so he did the job so to speak and left . Haven't seen or heard from him since .
Well, that's a misleading headline if I've ever saw one!! Great clip, but it had absolutely nothing to do with what was being talked about..
I love Morrison here. He is thinking about every word he is going to say, careful to not get too much emotion involved and not trying to say anything negative. It would be real easy to roast Aries here and he took the high road.
I remember when John morrison kinda dissed Trish in front of everybody at mania
The CHAMP is HERE
*damn that GUNSHOW*
How is this guy not one of the top guys in WWE???
Does John Morrison still walk out in slow motion
John is such a guy that I build AEW around ,only if TK knows wtf they are doing. He's so talented and has good 7 to 8 years in him.
I think miz should manage him as miz can't hang out with guys like lashley sheamous but Morrison more believeable like Jeff Hardy.
to bad he dont talk like this during his promos . he is real and natural
Sooo what did I miss here? Zero talk about no selling.
He worked himself into a shoot, brother.
Stories yes, proper storylines that's what's missing from wrestling these days. Nothing to get invested in. The good old days are gone sadly.
HEY.... IT'S CHRIS VAN VLEHHHH!!!

If Austin had done this in a 1998 era with a guy like Taker in the locker room? That would have been a short career for Austin Aries
Even Jim Cornette, who hates everyone, loves John Morrison, says he’s a great guy.
Anyone think Johns going back to impact or AEW? My instinct is for him to go to AEW but tbh i really think hed be better given the spotlight in Impact. If he goes to aew i dont see him in the main title picture and thats such a sad statement. His talent at this age is off the charts.
