  • On this video I talk about my experience with breastfeeding and bottle feeding (combine feeding or mixed feeding) my newborn baby. James is my first baby and breastfeeding hasn't quite gone as planned for us, but I'm persevering for as long as I can. i think whatever works for yourself and your baby is the best option. If you love your child and nourish your child with either breastmilk or formula and you and your baby are happy and are at peace to me that is what's important.

    As I don't plan on becoming a mother for quite a few more years, I can only imagine the struggle you're going through. It's awesome to see that you have an optimistic mindset about the future of your breastfeeding journey! I wish you nothing but the best and I hope to hear that it becomes easier for you and James. You're a glowing mommy!

      Jade Bollett Thank you, Jade! :) I knew breastfeeding would be tricky, but I never knew just hard it actually is until the first time I breastfed James. I think I have to be optimistic for James' sake and to make sure that in the future I don't regret giving it up too quickly.

    Sorry to hear you are struggling so much with breastfeeding and health. I guess all breastfeeding mums go through different degrees of struggle at the beginning. I as well struggled with pain and low milk supply for the first 2 months and then everything went fine. I'm still breastfeeding my 9 month old baby now. From time to time i still struggle with pain (she's teething) and milk clogs (if she skips a feed) but i will persevere because i know this is the best for her. I plan to breastfeed her till whenever she naturally weans. Just do what works best for you and don't be afraid of doing it differently from the majority of other mums because, as you said, what your baby needs the most is a happy and healthy mum! Hang in there and know assured that you are now alone in this whole motherhood/breastfeeding journey. May God bless you and your family!

      cokelighteffect Thank you for your comment! And well done you for persevering through the struggles of breastfeeding. As you say, and I agree, I know breastfeeding is the best for James, but if and when things take a turn for the worse and I can't do it anymore, I'm happy formula feeding him because my main priority is for us all to be healthy and for him to be fed. I hate the pressure that women suffer to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months, and I wish people would just accept that this does not suit every mum & baby.
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! x

    I just want to say thank you so much. I know this is a really old video and you might not even see this, but I'm curently going through the process of introducing formula to my 8 week old son because he's not gaining weight and your experience is so similar to my own. The guilt/anxiety/relief cycle is intense and overwhelming and it's so reassuring to know other people have gone through it.

    Stick with it if you can! Breastfeeding was so painful for me for the first three months and I totally understand dreading each feeding. After the pain went away breastfeeding was a breeze and we're still nursing at 26 months :) I hope you reach your goals and congratulations again!

      Jessica M Thank you! It's nice to hear from someone who's gone through the pain and got to the other side of a happy and enjoyable breastfeeding journey. I will carry it on for as long as I can :) x

    My son was also born early but at 34 weeks. He's about to turn 5 months next week! But my supply was the complete opposite of yours lol. I was actually leaking when I was still pregnant. Since he was born so early, I had to pump continuously and they would feed him through a tube. When I tried breastfeeding the nurse suggested a nipple shield and he eventually could latch on and feed but only with the shield. Randomly one day when I had to feed him I just attempted to see if he would latch without the shield and he did! It was and still is super painful for me and I use lanolin cream daily. Now since I'm working again he gets more formula than breast but I still plan to do it until at least he's one year old. I feel your pain!! Good luck pretty Momma!

    Omg! Are you Brazilian? I just found your channel randomly and I absolutely loved it! We have so many things in common, I almost graduated in law back in Brazil, my baby is 6 months old and I also live in the uk. You speak very good English and I couldn't even notice that you were Brazilian, how long have you been living here?? I also have a channel in Portuguese but thinking about filming in English now. I'm doing the same, I give Isabela 2 or 3 bottles a day (tried all the formulas but she settled well on hipp organic which seams more gentle in the tummy than the other ones).

    With my first baby I also had pain for the first 8-10 weeks and then the pain went away bfeeding became so easy and quick. I would get the tongue toe sorted and I'm very sure your pain will go away. The pain your feeling is from that shallow latch and he will also take longer to feed if his latch is shallow. All the best x

      @YsisLorenna  Před 9 lety +1

      MakeupByAliciaE Yeah, I think you're right and it makes sense to get the tongue tie sorted whilst he's little and won't remember much. Hopefully that will also improves my breastfeeding experience! x

    Re-watching your video and it sounds only too familiar right now! Reflux has made our lives super difficult and we're not getting into any sort of pattern yet. I think for me the bressure comes mainly from myself and I beat myself up as my supply is too low to solely feed her but we need formula for her medicine too :(. It's far more difficult than I ever anticipated and I wish we could ditch the bottle but like you say, as long as she's gaining weight and healthy then that's all that matters. Pumping often isn't an option with a non sleeping baby so my supply has suffered massively and not sure I can get it up now 2 weeks on. Hope you're in a better routine now! Xx

    I had the same situation. Baby was underweight and preterm. I was asked to breastfeed and supplement with formula. Which I did for the first two months. However, he would fall asleep on my breast and I had no idea how much I was giving and I couldn't keep track of what I was giving. With the pressure to monitor what I was giving and ensure his weight gain, I found nursing confusing.
    SO I switched to pumping and giving formula. However, my supply didn't take off. So I pump about 2 feedings and the rest is formula. My baby is 3 months old now and we have settled on 2 feedings of expressed milk and formula otherwise. I wish I could say my supply was enough to give more but I have stopped.

      @YsisLorenna  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi :) I'm glad you found my video helpful. That's the reason why I decided to make it in the first place. I'm so sorry but I don't remember the specific details as this was filmed 3 years ago, but I remember it was trial and error for me. At first I had to clue, then slowly I started to find my own rhythm. I think I was breastfeeding him for hours at first! Then I learned that he wasn't actually feeding the whole time, so I cut it down to 15-20 minutes per breast, but obviously it wasn't a rule, as I would let him feed if he was still actively taking milk. The ounces of formula changed as he grew, but I remember always offering him more than I thought he needed, just in case. All the best of luck to you and please don't be shy to look for support if you need it. :) xx

      Ysis Lorenna thanks so much for your reply. I'm actually doing great with breastfeeding it was just (a thought of the what if )it suddenly changed ... your such a great mum for trying to do the right thing for your family God Bless You. At the moment I wouldn't give formula lol. Due to my experience. .. basically my third youngest son was a very hungry baby so I gave breast milk and I also gave formula.. what I did was I let him breastfeed on both breast for 15-30 minutes if I found him hungry within the next hr I would give him formula I did this from birth until 3 months by then he completely refused my breast I also noticed changes to my body .... I found out i was pregnant when my son turned 3 months lol I guess maybe that's why he refused my breast and due to giving him the bottle, he was also Tongue tied he suffered alot when I gave him only the bottle of formula always the milk was coming out from the sides of his mouth my doctor wasn't bother because somehow he was still gaining weight anyway I got his tongue tied treated he is doing great now so an update I have now 4 boys under 5 years old. 4 1/2 yrs old, 2 1/2 yrs old, 1 yr old , 1 month old. Busy happy house. I do want to try again for a girl. Plz God

    Aaaw Hun i know how you feel regarding the pressure to breast feed. I had my first via c section n mix fed him from day 1 but the guilt was immense. I do believe breast is best but not everyone can for many reasons. Combined feeding worked for me. The bond that is established during breast feeding is amazing and I have missed it each time (3 lil ones now) they have stopped ( I've only managed upto 10 months while others have feed up to 2 yrs!) as you said it's all about baby's well being so whatever works! Your doing great! Xxxx

    • @YsisLorenna
      @YsisLorenna  Před 9 lety

      Miss Rafique Thank you! :) I think combine feeding suits us really well and I love seeing James' daddy being able to bond when giving him a bottle. The pressure is so unfair and it makes me feel so guilty for giving him a bottle after each feed, almost like I'm not a good mum because I can't give him everything he needs. But I know that's not true, it's just a shame that it's how it makes me feel about my decision to combine feed my baby. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! x
