Blucoats "Tilt" Carolina Crown "E=MC2" is another good one
13:00 there were actually 24 trombones during this part of the show which is made up of the entire baritone section. the mellos, trumpets, and tubas still played their normal instruments. very rarely will you see trombones in the entirety of a show in DCI usually players from other sections will switch back and forth between instruments
I've gotta chime to recommend Phantom Regiment 2008 (Spartacus). It's older, pre-electronics, but to me it still stands as one of the top shows of all time.
This was a couple weeks before finals so you'd be amazed how much cleaner they got in August. But do yourself a favor bro, go to a shop IN PERSON this summer. Totally different experience than watching videos. You can feel the power and bass.

i think bluecoats 2022 is like the pinnacle of drum corps in terms of music, story, and visuals. i would definitely suggest that
In my opinion it’s one of their weaker shows. I think Bloo 2019 did a better job
The dances you saw were called Dances features, usually the Colorguard is the only ones TRULY dancing, unless you’re watching a top 5-8 Drum Corps. Bluecoats does more dance feature than just about any other corps. As for the trombone feature, Drum Corps doesn’t march Trombones usually. But sometimes, they’ll have all the Baritone marchers pick up Trombones and play features. And as for the age range, 16-21. As a young black educator who respects the grind of both HBCUs and Drum Corps, it was heart warming to see ya genuinely reactions. You got IG?

I would also be interested in your perspective on HBCU style as well - who are the best bands, and why are they considered the best? What are considered the best HBCU shows of all time?

This was at UTSA. Finals are competed in Indianapolis every year in the Colt's Lucas Oil Stadium in august
Also, my recommendation if you're going deeper into DCI stuff is Riffs and Revelations, the Bluecoats show from 2022. It's a super groovy show with tons of inspiration from 70s funk and things of the like
Also, that clip you probably heard is from finals. They changed the ending quite a bit from this video to the end of the season

2002 Cavaliers, 2003 Blue Devils and 2008 Phantom Regiment
The crazy thing about this specific performance is that they still had another month to finish perfecting it before finals in mid August. This elwas at the San Antonio regional that was the second week of July. It got even better!

That was the championship in Indianapolis. They travel all over the US. There's a lot of different corps and levels. The garden of love is a poem they made into a dci show. Most are in their early/mid 20s.

I would say another corp to react would be the Cavaliers, for them id say there 007, Secrete Society, Machine, Frameworks, The Planets, Samurai, Mad World, XtraordinarY, Spin Cycle would all be good shows to react to. Also to show the change in style DCI over the years as well.

Bra, watch blue devils 2017 2014. Or Santa Clara vanguards 2018. You will like it way more. Blue coats are nice though. Im a hbcu fan too. But this is just different. Check out the others then go on and watch “Ball and parlay as I will.

I don’t think most corps typically contract anyone below 16 these days. You’ll get an odd 15-year-old, but most are generally 18 and up in order to have skills required to make it into a top-placing corps like this.
@@TheFuryKatofficially yes it’s 14-21. It varies from corps to corps. Most world class minimum is around 16(pretty rare at the top 6). Open class is definitely more around 14-19

@@OfficialRogersBros everyone likes different shows. DCI nowadays is very focused on pleasing the judges instead of having focus on an entertaining show. Just look at a couple different ones and see what you like. I like shows from 70’s to 90’s since they were more traditional and not as focused on competition.
