Personally I feel like his song "Bullet to the Heart" is where Jackson really started to find his own voice and "100 Ways" is where he solidified his sound. His other solo tracks and songs with GOT7 all have great moments with him but I feel like he found his 'true sound' with these two tracks (as far as vocals go).
He said that papillon and all his other tracks are also him. That’s people trying to fit him in a box and that stated that papillon and the other rap songs weren’t him. When they clearly ignore that he been into that style even in GOT7. He just likes to test all sounds and not to be fitted in one box
@@sonia4313 Oh definitely! I think he's had a specific style for rapping for quite some time. I just meant that his singing style really came together with Bullet to the Heart. You could just feel he was more confident in himself as a singer with that track. :)

The dance practice footage was actually the dance Jackson did for a Chinese award show called Suning 818 Super Show. Lay did, however, also perform at the event. It wasn't for SDC3, but you are right they are both part of that program too.
He was a trainee for vocals actually before he transitioned to a rap role. So a lot of B sides of GOT7 have him singing. I do think like someone said earlier that he began to find his voice around his song bullet to the heart. Before he kinda had different singing styles and he sounded different then he does now.
Totally agree with you. For someone who has been following Got7 since long ago i know that Jackson sounded like this way before he debuted as a soloist.
Jackson's always had this genius director mindset, this specific vision that only he can see, but JYP restrained him a lot (and the rest of GOT7 tbh). Now that he has his own company I feel like he's finally giving life to all those ideas he's been harvesting for YEARS. I'm so happy to see him so comfortable in his element and getting better and better with every comeback. 💯
I really wonder what JYP's problem is constricting his 3rd gen artists like that. I wonder why the juniors get so much creative freedom. Jackson and JB get the short end of the stick.

I think jyp is trying to avoid what happen to miss a. Jyp ent trying to make sure that their popularity won't exceed too much from each other or else you know what will happen. Atleast jyp let him do his own company unlike SM ent and Jessica. Now he learns his lessons and let stray kids do their own music.

Sharon Lang yes, 3racha r the producing/ writing/ composing team for SKZ, they have mixtapes that you can find on soundcloud also it’s composed of Chan the leader of SKZ as well (name in 3RACHA: CB97) Changbin (SpearB) HAN (J.One) and i’m thankful that JYPE always let them do their own music since predebut and truly wish they could give the same « freedom » to JB mostly

Jackson has had a raspy tone for a long time but he is a rapper in GOT7, so it's a bit different to his singing tone now. He sang on GOT7's last track, and I think that was just proof he's getting more confident with singing now.
I’ve come to love Jackson as a solo artist so much. It’s so cool that he just does his own thing and how much he is involved in everything from directing to the choreo etc. So much authenticity, I really appreciate that
Jackson is currently participating as one of the four mentors along with yixing/lay in street dance of china by the way! He's such a great talented dancer but I feel like since got7 has yugyeom he's not talked about that often, the show is definitely good at showcasing his talents more
Jackson continues to challenge itself in every possible area and is constantly renewing itself. He recently said that he wants to try even more styles, which despite having started with his roots in rap, is more focused on the melodic nowadays. An album is coming out in Chinese this year and one in English next year. I greatly admire the dedication and determination he puts into everything he does.
PS: I highly recommend seeing Street Dance of Chine 3, where he and three other instructors battle. I almost die because I am unable to choose between Jackson, Lay and Yibo. The other one is Wallace.

_I'll try to explain the story as simply as I can (part 1 the myth that inspired the mv / part 2 analyse of the mv itself):_
*PART 1 MYTH*
The MV is inspired by the Chinese myth of the Butterfly lovers. Zhu Yingtai comes from a rich family, she wants to study but she's a girl so she cannot because of their culture. She decides to dress like a boy and her father accepts to let her go to school. There she meets Liang Shanbo, they become best friends but she starts to fall in love with him. Sadly, after a few years, her father sends her a letter to ask her to come back to their family, she then reveals her identity to her teacher and ask them to give Liang a jade pendant as a betrothal gift.
Liang accompagnes her during the 18 miles walk, she tries to let him know that she's a girl by giving hints but he doesn't seem to understand so she decides to act as a matchmaker between him and her "sister". Therefore when he visited her family, he discovered a pretty young lady and decided to ask Zhu's hand right away because of all the years they lost, they make a vow "till death do us apart". The thing is they get told that Zhu is promised to a rich man.
Liang is heartbroken and dies from it.
On the day of Zhu's marriage to Ma, strong winds prevent the wedding procession from escorting the bride beyond Liang's grave, which lies along the journey. Zhu leaves the procession to pay her respects at Liang's grave. She descends in bitter despair and begs for the grave to open up. Suddenly, the grave opens with a clap of thunder. Without further hesitation, Zhu throws herself into the grave to join Liang. Their spirits emerge in the form of a pair of butterflies and fly away together, never to be separated again.
*PART 2, the MV!:*
In the MV, Jackson is a military leader who's being brought back to life by his four loyal soldiers after they did a ritual because that is the promise they made (to always protect their leader and use their powers to bring him back).
Jackson once brought back to life only has one goal, to find his lover's grave to bring her back to life. You see his loyal soldiers and him walking through broken trees due to their powerful energies. They make it to the grave which is located somewhere very pretty / luxurious, letting us know that she comes from as rich family (he came back from the forest in the middle of other tombstones).
Jackson and his soldiers do the ritual again to bring her back to life but to do it and help Jackson the 4 loyal soldiers sacrifice themselves as it requires a lot of energy (that is why the 4 of them fall).
Jackson has now enough energy and powers to bring his lover back to life, that is what he does. She comes back to life with really luxurious and expensive clothes, proving this time that she comes from a rich and honourable family whereas Jackson was covered in dirt. This is an hint as to why they weren't buried together (usually lovers are buried together), because they weren't married, she was with a man of her "kind" and he died alone (explaining the "There's a hundred ways to leave a lover (her husband that she doesn't actually love), I'm the only one that you need (he, that she's in love with despite him not being rich or successful like her family would want him to be).
Once they're reunited, he holds her in his arms and proceeds to do the ritual one more time to bury them together as they're finally together and can rest peacefully instead of resurrecting her to live together because there's no actual proofs that they'd be able to live together, so they die together instead, in the arms of one another.
I hope at least someone read this or I would've wrote if for nothing haha, hope it helped or whatever :D
Okay I legit read all of this haha. I love learning about mythical or historical symbolism, references and influences in music videos that most people don't usually notice because they mistake it just for aesthetic. Which, it's a great aesthetic and plot but there's a reason for it to be incorporated haha. Thanks for sharing!!

Yes, Jackson has 100% control over all aspects of his solo work because he owns it all himself. It's all part of his company. However, "100 Ways" actually was choreographed under the direction of the Kinjaz. The Kinjaz have done a lot of projects with Jackson and several of his recent projects are in collaboration with them. The dance practice you saw was a practice for a performance Jackson did for a recent Chinese award show. The dance break is just another part of that performance. What you saw Jackson directing was him explaining the dance to the backup dancers who were part of the performance. It was actually so interesting to me how you pointed out at 2:00 that it looks like the others are metaphorically controlling his movements. I never saw the dance practice until now and I just thought they were putting on those decorative armor pieces as if kind of preparing him for summoning the woman or just dressing him up for their rendez-vous.
Also super fascinating that you pointed out how his movement is so musical theatre-esque. I never payed close attention to it but kinda just assumed that he would have a very “athletic” technique because he used to pursue fencing so intensely. Woundn‘t have asociated him with that style tbh but I really appreciate it.

When he came to Korea Jackson did so with the intention of being a singer however he was placed as rapper in got7 and that's why you probably don't remember his singing voice from their songs! There are a few songs in which he has sung, especially more as of recently, but in most songs he raps - which is still unique and showcases his voice but in a different way than when he sings. When he went solo his first few songs were also mostly rap or rap mixed with singing, and only slowly they became more and more singing only. I enjoy both very much but I'm glad through his solo works he gets to work on and shine more through his singing which he doesn't do with got7 a lot. I really like his voice too.
Sometime this year his second album with about 17 songs should come out so you definitely should look forward to that! And I recommend you to watch bullet to the heart, titanic and dway, which are also all really great songs, with awesome choreos and interesting creative concepts. It's like he gets better with every comeback

I also love the acting in Jackson's part, his expressions are so good especially since he is such a goofball. Also that he sings now, when years before Jackson wanting to sing was always made into a joke. I love that he gets to do what he wants with his solo work.

The story behind 100 Ways is real love story between Chinese general and his love . They had been separated and dead in different places. So this general’s soldiers revived him and then they revived his love too, sacrificing themselves. And then, they were buried together. So the General and his love can be together in the other life. “Cause I’m the only one that you need”

Personally, I felt like you can somewhat hear that his singing style is not your typical kpop sound in past GOT7 songs, BUT, like someone said, he really found his sound in Bullet to the Heart. For me, the difference was how much power he had in his voice. I was really shocked at how strong his voice was, and how high he could go with the timbre that he has, kind of like Jessie (soloist). Both interesting tones backed by mega power.
you should react to bullet to the heart. he has a live perf on let's show together. or maybe even oxygen and he also performed it live on jackson wang 328 journey. jackson is known in kpop as a rapper but his solo stuff mostly showcases his vocals. you'll enjoy either songs if you want to listen his voice. though both songs don't have a choreo though. they're on the more symbolic and emotional side. i think you'll enjoy them!

You should try watching Street Dance of China season 3. Lay and Jackson are there. As well as, 2 other hosts Yibo and Wallace. The 4 of them are so talented at dancing. Yibo is also an idol from the group UNIQ (but the group is inactive now and so he's focusing on his acting career more) and he is a professional dancer who used to do dance battles, I feel like you will really love his dancing, once you see him on the show.

In got7 he mostly raps and his rapping voice is a bit huskier than his singing voice which is more smooth and softer
