Excellent video. I've always heard that receiving Buffalo and Rochester stations in Toronto and GTA were a challenge but the reception of Erie stations was even more impressive.
In Erie you can still pick up CHCH and the Buffalo stations every once in awhile with a good outdoor antenna. Ever since the digital switchover, I don't think I've seen a Toronto station over the air here. Aside from Channel 11, the only Canadian stations you'll pick up here anymore are the ones from London. If you live near downtown Erie or in the surrounding neighborhoods, you probably won't pick them up very often. If you live in the higher terrain south of I-90, that's probably your best chance. Back in the analog days I used to pick up channel 5 and channel 9 pretty decently. I don't remember the channel number, but I also remember picking up the French language station out of Toronto as well.
YesTV's secular programs are also syndied trhough the IndyNet system, which includes NTV in Newfoundland and CHEK Victoria. CHCH is also a part of IndyNet for advertising purposes, but runs a different schedule. The best way to describe YesTV for US viewers, is to think about the LeSes stations (who also mix secular and pray-TV).
Interesting video. I have often wondered what Toronto TV was like. Thanks for sharing. Incidentally, CHCH is also used in New Zealand to abbreviate their city Christchurch.
19:33 Wow you actually caught a bit of OMNI News Filipino on CJMT, least to say, as a Filipino, I'm surprised. The anchor there, but wasn't in the video was formerly known for her work on the "most trusted news network" back in the Philippines.
I remember in the summertime during the analog days when I lived in Toledo WTOL 11 would occasionally get co channel interference from CHCH late at night. Also, CBET Windsor 9 would clash with CFTO at times as well as a station in Northern Michigan.
The analog days were fun! Here in Erie, sometimes we'd pick up the Toledo stations during tropo events. WTVG on channel 13 with CKCO from Kitchener coming through co-channel. Same thing with CHCH and WTOL on channel 11. I also remember being able to pick up WUPW 36 sometimes. We have a local on channel 24, so WNWO never made it to Erie. I also remember channel 5 in Cleveland and channel 5 in Toronto fighting one another for reception. Lol.
21:25 Yeah that happens constantly with NFL broadcasts outside the US. AFIAK the US networks only offer a dirty feed to international broadcasters (though there is a 2nd sound option without commentary)
got a dose of newfoundland on city tv, hudson and rex is filmed in st johns, you should do a am/fm bandscan with the toronto area stations, you should come to newfoundland also, we got good dxing spots here also
16:06 Just wanted to say, I just got Star Ray TV in Ryerson University and I have no idea where does it transmit, it has PSID channel number of 15, and transmitting at 521.028MHz (RF22 maybe? I picked up by using USB tuner and a Tvheadend server), broadcasting at 480i only
Yep, no subchannels on most TV stations in Canada. Subchannels are not covered by the same CRTC licences as main channels. And while you are in Canada, you can ignore all those Hulu ads, as Hulu simply does not exist here up north. Our version of Hulu is called Crave, an ad of which you see in this video.
did you know TVOKids aired programs notably Bitz and Bob. As a fanatic, I watched here in Philippines on the Chinese catholic channel, Good TV back in 2020
Will this also work a TV bandscan from Blaine, WA the nearest American City to Vancouver, BC 40 mi 60 km away. For that town you get a mix of Bellingham,WA and Vancouver, BC like this one which has Toronto, ON and Buffalo NY stations. Plattsburgh, NY same treatment results in Montreal Quebec and Burlington, VT stations. For Northern Japan, you might be able to get Russian Radio from Vladivostok and Khasan the Russian border town with North Korea. In Europe, Dresden area will get Polish radio Zorgolec Wroclaw which german speakers call Gorlitz-Moys and Breslau Czech Republic Side Praha spelled in German as Prag
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, MY LOCAL CBS, AND ABC STATION! Surprised that Fox (WFXP) or PBS (WQLN) was not featured.
@16:15: Who's that lady talking to?...or that guy flighting?...and how'd that wall break? I don't see anyone. :D @24:04: I have Verizon and when I was off the coast of BC (about 15 miles off shore), I connected to Rogers. Helluva signal....and 5G for most people (I had a 4G phone at the time).
@@charlesferrer9814I used to live in Niagara Falls and my friend will always connect to AT&T instead of Rogers, so instead I crossed the border and get a line from US
"a Vancouver man who spent years in Iran's notorious prison fears an octopus"
Well now I'm really invested.

Yes makes perfect sense.

I like how you edited the news to make them say "this man who spent years in prison is now afraid of an octopus

13:03 That is THE BEST advertising for medicine I've seen. I want that now. It'll taste horrible. But I know it'll fucking work.

Global is “Global National,” CBC is “The National,” and CTV is “CTV National News.”

12:42 No, that’s *NOT* Lea Michele (though the host does resemble her)!
Wow!

I would recommend using Bell instead of Rogers… Bell is quite fast when I crossed the border a few weeks ago.
