I'm glad companies like Cateye exist. I remember when I first started cycling on a hybrid, I bought a cheap Cateye unit that just told me the basics. Speed, distance, avg speed. I didn't really need more than that. And seeing as how there are millions more casual riders than true roadies, I'm sure they still sell enough product to stay in business for a long time.
I think their market is actually difficult. Not only the products last for years (so no perpetual income), but there are plenty of competitors flooding not only bike shops, but general stores. Oh, and the product is inexpensive and that's another problem. What's interesting - there are companies dangerously close to their price level with products that have even more features, like IGPSport's bike computers with gps.
I've still got a 12 yr old cateye computer that I now keep as a backup. It charges and hold charge like it did new. It's a. Basic wireless power meter ready unit but works flawlessly. I can't say my Garmin will last as long and the battery has been a disappointment.
The more i see of that wheeltop groupset the better it looks. The rear derailleur particularly looks great. Rechargeable batteries that dont fall out or have connector fails? Yes plz! Love to find more about the multi-speed programming, that could be cool, and potentially save money if you could upgrade to a higher speed in the future with just a firmware update. Should be standard on ALL electronic systems, having to buy a brand new derailleur when the motor could just move a little less.
FWIW, I picked up a K-Force WE 11 speed groupset and ran it for a year. Honestly, was perfectly good for me: light, reliable and a great upgrade over a cable setup.
Every electronic front and rear derailleur from any manufacturer should be able to support any range of gearing from 5,6,7,..12. It’s all in the software.. I suspect there are many 10 speed DI2 units around in good condition that could have a firmware update to support 12 speed.. It would also enable upgrades to older bikes as original equipment becomes harder to find.. It’s all marketing driven. Hopefully sanity will return to the bike industry and we won’t be faced with even more outrageous pricing than we have now..
I'm all for well priced cable break compatible wireless groupset. And I think I'm not only one who would gladly upgrade their rim brake road bike with these.
Can’t wait for more info on the trimm two gps. Can’t find much out there. Big screen, easy to read is all you need. Hopefully the screen is like an edge 130 but bigger. I find that’s the best screen on Garmin. No need for color it just makes the screen look worse for contrast etc.
The Spanish Conti Team BH Burgos has been using the FSA electronic 11 speed groupset for a number of years. It has been for sale in Europe on a limited bases. Why they never really promoted it is a good question.
Trek had (?still has) the Dialed system to adjust crank length for growing children. It was 2 tapped holes in the crank arms. The fully adjustable crank arms sound like a great idea to me.
I hope FSA really get the groupset out to market it looks good. Still got a cateye computer as a backup pity they haven't released a more advanced unit. Sigma I'd avoid as I've had s couple of units fail dismally in years past.
9:00 - Karoo used to have this interface sorted (this looks like old update) and now they've started tweaking things they messed up. So - LARGE numbers, colored labels close to numbers and icons next to them. They updated it initially to some stupid borders and now stripped the borders, but the numbers are small and labels far apart.
Is it weird that of all the new technology that's here the thing I'm most excited about is the possibility of hacking a SPD_SL pedal to work with Assioma duo PM 😁
The Bryton head unit looks promising. Edit: also... Stay away from Meilan. Their units are "ok", but only for basic use. They can't add new stuff once the device is released.
I like the adjustable crank system and would like to know how well it can keep its settings for permanent installation on custom bikes for short and tall riders. I think it would be great if they made two versions : short being 145-165mm and long being 175-185. I don't see any reason to offer the standard lengths, as people can just use an ordinary crank. Or perhaps it may be good if you have a leg length discrepancy. Apparently those Trimm units can run forever, when connected to the solar panel they sell with the unit.
If they do release that wheeltop group set in cable pull I can see a lot of rim brake users upgrading their old bikes. I myself will be on 2 older bikes if they are reasonably priced and work well.
I was thinking the same, I've got a pre-disc Soma Smoothie, lovely bike to ride (and look at) but I love E-Shifting so much it doesn't get the use it deserves.
Yes… they’re acknowledged issues. Nothing to report further than that. They’ve halted beta firmware for the last six weeks or more on their Edge units too.
I've once seen it being sold second hand locally for like 20 bucks. Just looked them up on CZcams and there they have a video proudly comparing it to SRM on an uphill and it's jumping only like +/- 50W! Might be actually a fair competition for the budget offering from Shimano (the R9200-P, or how is it called…). @gplama , now I need your review of one! Perhaps as April fool's?
@kitttt2002 DC Rainmaker some years ago reviewed powermeter with similar design, it was called AeroPod if I'm not mistaken. Obviously it doesn't work as good as a powermeter on a bike, but surprisingly it was not terrible. If it'll be priced at let's say 100 USD, it actually has some potential.
@@jeskli11 i looked it up and it indeed sold for $100. but it was so shit you might aswell blindly guess. there are apps that try to estimate your power with your cadence and HR that are much better

Got a few Cateye lights. They're not the brightest but they're reliable in all weathers, and the battery lasts longer than the competition.
cateye mighty2! =)
I also still have my cateye computer with cadence sensor from 2001 and it still works just fine 👌🏾
Thank you very much, Shane. You came from Australia to Germany to show us all the interesting equipment that GCN UK didn’t want to speak about...
7:23 okay you totally have to put that Slinky video on a 10-hour Loop 🙂. As you said, that is mesmerizing 😎.

Thanks Shane. Enjoyed all of it especially the slinky

That Multi -Length Cranks is really tempting~!!!

The wheeltop is perfect for Bamboo bikes.....cable runs on funky shaped "tubes" can be a challenge 😆....trust me

That shown design is not strong enough for riding, just fitting
Look Tri-Lobe technology in the look sprm cranks could be an alternative if the kids are spoiled =)

We need a Hide The Wheel Lama test of a Muckoff AirTag in the wheel system :)
They’re a pain to buy, tbh. You have to select the holder then the correct valve length. Not a straightforward purchase/install.
Thanks as always Shane.

Thanks for the the heads-up on Meilan. 👌🏼
The EDS groupset is my target , dont know when they will release the news .

Indeed, same here. Would go on two bikes. Looking forward to reviews popping up, hopefully later this year

A random one but did you by chance get to talk with Garmin about the pro climb or % elevation lag issues. Thanks for the round up 👍

@@gplama thanks
These alternative groupsets need to release their stuff in silver to differentiate themselves from the pack.
Shimano GRX limited edition has entered the chat! 😉
If you visit the EuroBike, i dont need to visit :) Thank you ;)
Don't "AirTags" have to be in the vicinity of an Iphone..? So if there are no Iphones around the stolen bike it won't be detected..?
Yes. They need an iPhone, iPad, Mac to report their location.
Hello!! Question, I have the garmin edge 1040 and shimano di2 durace. Is there a possibility to skip the songs with the buttons on the sticks?
Not that I'm aware of, this is not something you can assign the D-Fly functions to at this stage. It's a great idea though!
That Wheeltop groupset looks so janky 😂
They pay money for that stand at Eurobike. Which is unbelievable in the first place.
What ever happened to real time aerodynamic monitors?
Not much. There was a LOT of them in development a while back.
Notio is still around. I believe Argon18 bought them?
Any idea when GRX 12 speed will be available?
I suspect soon…
valve cap powermeter? what??
Let’s not even… They tell me this new one is much better.
