    *That formula is applicable if the column has a pin support and no moment at base other wise you need to include the moment which the porduced by lateral loads such as earthquake and wind.*

    Sir, is it possible you make a chart or a table for all the requirements for beams and columns, their size, spacing, steel dia, number of steel bars, size of footing, type of footing, depth of footing, sbc, conc grade etc.. for domestic and commercial buildings from G+1 up to G+10?
    It will be very helpful and we will appreciate.

    Nicely explained
    The question arises whether the 0.00 level of the building is raised in relation to the ground, e.g. 0.5 m up.
    How to read the foundation level according to the formula (whether in relation to the construction embankment or in the native soil)
    E.G. calculated foot depth 1.5m. , whether to count relative to the native soil or relative to the 0.00 level?

    The assesment of an effective depth of foundation is usually one of judgement or design office procedure but a ratio of width of base to overall thickness of 5 is fairly a good starting point. In rectangular section the width is taken as the shorter side.

    First of all I would like to express my appreciation for your support.
    We are in a proses of building G5. However we are making a mistake when we aligned the foundation column from 5 to 10 cm. The pad is poured with concrete but the columns are not poured yet.
    Q.1- is it ok to bend the rebar to fix the alignment? If so what is the recommended or the min and the maximum limit to bend the rebar
    Q-2 how deep we have to chisel the foundation pad to bend the rebars and is additional support required ?

    Whats the depth of foundation should be for a house of modern bricks with 3 bedroom, 1 bath, living, dining and kitchen. Allowance should be considered for putting a second floor in the future with the same amount of unit and considering walls to be the standard height of 9 ft?

    Assalamo alaykom Sir. I'm thankful for your lecture on depth of foundation. My clarification is, would I use the actual information from the fresh soil sample extracted right from the site?...meaning the angle of repose of the soil it actually creates, and the density without removing the moisture content of the soil sample ? Or imperative to bring the sample to a laboratory? Why I am raising this clarification is because there are construction sites the water is with in the range of the foundation depth. Shukran.

    Rankine Formula is not always mandatory to follow for the footing embedment depth requirement
    it depends on the foundation overall stiffness & arrangement to resist the vertical & lateral loads acting onto the building
    for the determination of P in the Rankine Equation -- it should be correctly calculated relative to each Column Applied Axial Loads
    otherwise - the resulted required depth of footing would be so deep & not realistic !
    correct understanding & application of the Rankine Formula should be acquired !

      yes brother u can determine the angle of repose from the soil tipped by a truck, in this case as the soil is disturbed and is not in its natural condition, so the sample which should be used in the test will be remoulded sample and the angle of friction/angle of repose will be less than the actual.
