  • Hike to the base of Taughannock Falls, or just enjoy it from it's overlook above! Amazing in the fall, spring, and summer, it's the tallest waterfall in the Finger Lakes region of New York AND east of the Rocky Mountains with a 215 foot drop.

Outstanding video - nice shout out to Twilight Zone. Rod Serling was laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery about 15 minutes away from Taughannock.

Congratulations, this is one of the best produced videos I have seen of Taughannock. Part of the south rim was on my maternal grandparent's farm, which after living there in my early teens was absorbed by the park. The original footbridge and viewing area at the foot of the big falls was built in 1969 by a handful of people of which I was a truck driver/laborer ( modified since then due to flooding a few years later). People that find the gorge trail parking and the swimming beach/boat lagoon parking areas too busy should know that there is a less noticible but very accessible parking area along the north shore picnic and pavilion area across the highway bridge from the gorge trail.
Also, as mentioned by Kathryn Fanning, we locals really enjoy the inclusion of Twilight Zone/Rod Serling/Cayuga Productions references.
One last mention: Above the big falls by rim trails or road access to a small parking lot, there is an old railroad bridge over the upper falls that is the north terminus for The Black Diamond Trail, a Rails-To-Trails multi use trail to Ithaca's Westside/Cayuga Inlet areas and trails. The railroad grade is relatively easy (up coming north from Ithaca, down returning south to Ithaca) compared to the roads in the area, with many smaller creeks and waterfalls that hikers & bikers can really enjoy. Perhaps another video?

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words and the wonderful story! I appreciate the extra insights and will have to check some of that out come spring when some of those upper trails reopen. That being said, I would love to check out the main trail this winter and get some snowy shots of the fall! Cheers!
