This review- the catfish Camaro is one of the best bang for your buck performance cars with the LS1 under it's hood. We go in depth with this budget corvette. With it's acceleration very strong for an "older" car, this is with no doubt predecessor to cars like the 2017 camaro zl1 and 2016 camaro ss Thanks for watching! More below!

People that knock these cars calling them the poor mans Vette need to go drive one or at least go for a ride in one, these things are straight line missiles for there era and very reliable. Since I've had mine I put on a set of 4 tires, replaced the clutch (previous owner killed it) and put a Flowmaster cat back system on it absolutely everything else is the way she came off the assembly line! Yesterday I bought a showroom quality 17000 original mile 02' Z28. So I've been watching utube videos tonight about 02' Camaros. Guy I known for 25years bought it new to add to his Camaro collection and decided he had to thin his herd a bit and offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. Red 6 speed car. He put stainless longtubes with Borla system in it along with an intercooled procharger. It was stored in a climate controled car museum of a garage its whole life.
I like the handling, exterior look and interior layout of my 91' 1LE Z28 better but this 02 is a beast and it has a cupholder!

I have a girdle w/ stud kit on my mine, but it only strengthens the rear-end about 25%, but its nice to not have to worry about my pinion seal every time I want to have some fun. The older gen 93-97 with the LT1 were also better than the similar period Mustangs but the LS1 is amazing! If by better you mean more power stock and slightly faster sure. It looks like a geo storm on steroids and the interior looks like ass compared to 90s mustangs and the rear is made of glass. It has shit quality everywhere the only thing good about them is the engine and trans lol. Fee mods on each the mustangs can more than hold their own especially a 4v. My 97 cobra used to spank similarly modded lt1 6 speed cars but I have the driver mod too. The mustang was also cheaper back then even the cobra barely costed more my 97 cobra new was like 27k camaros were in the low to mid 20s at that time. The lt1 isn't as much in front as gm guys wanna beleive. It's little quicker stock but when both have minor mods the mustangs hold their own with less displacement and less cost (when new)
      *edit*
I'm talking gt against the lt1 the 4v cobra starting in 96 could take lt1 and the 94-95 302 cobra could hang right beside an lt1 stock for stock all day the 5.0 cobra was underrated.

They hold quite a few autocrossing championships too. Hit up UMI if you want to turn corners. The SLA front suspension is actually ideal for cornering. And you can scoop up the LT1(93-97) cars or V6 cars for half the already cheap LS(98-02) car price, and swap in a 5.3 truck engine and an Amazon turbo kit and make 600 to the tire for well under 10k.

There was an auto WS6 LS1 T/A there same day that couldn't even break out of the 14's with intake and exhaust mods. The LS1 is indeed a great engine no doubt, but by the time you pour another 2 or 3 grand in an F body to replace the cheap shit 7.5" S10 rear end they put in those you can have a 2V running 12's. I still see 2V's running low 13's all night long at the track.

I owned one of these back in the day and they handle and brake way better then he or most people give credit for. Perhaps this one is a bit beat. They have very predictable over steer and are easy to drive (the convertibles and especially auto convertibles understeer ). The live rear axle will jump the rear end what feels like a foot if you hit a big bump on a turn doing 80-100 mph, although unnerving its kinda fun as well. Very fun car that is easy to drive with the throttle and drift etc. I did a lot of 4 wheel power on drifting around turns. You must get the Manual if you want to do anything other then straight pulls for fun.

The new LT architecture is coming along, it's only been out for what, 2 years? LS architecture has been out for almost 20 years now. Have you seen Katech's 427 LT engine? It's pretty mean, makes 700hp N/A.
But the new LT family has a lot of nice stuff like variable cam phasing, oil squirters for the pistons, and direct injection. Give it time, this just feels like when the honda K series engine came out and everyone was saying they were trash and weak and that the B series engines are where it's at, but now you can see raced out N/A build K series engines pushing over 400hp.

Good review, you hit most of the topics on point. I have owned 3 of them, a 98, 97 and 95. The LS1 was a far superior motor to the LT1. My 98 was an auto and went 13.7 on streets bone stock. After a converter, catback, Hypertech tuner and a CAI, it went 12.91 on drag radials. This car you reviewed sounds like it has the 2.73 gear, which is weak as all hell. Mine had the factory 3.42 and it made all the difference. Its good to see people take care of them though, good job!
