6 gen Camaros that have diff issues are v6 and 4 cyl. Ss camaros especially zl1 have iron cased lsd diffs with hardened axle shafts. The pics you showed are of the aluminium cased diffs. Non SS. Not only do I own a 6 gen,
SS 1LE. But I am a GM Certified tech and have been over 15 years.
I have never, ever seen a G80 rear diff blown or howling in a ss 6 gen.
Other than that good video bro
Noah Adams have a 6th gen RS. No problems yet Diff wise. Even though I pretty sure the previous owner treated it like crap
What about fifth gen v6
Noah Adams .....thanks a lot for your professional info.....I feel better now because I too am a owner of a 1LE. A 2018 2SS 1LE to be exact. Only have 5400 miles on it so far after 13 months but so far so good ....no mech issues whatsoever, it’s actually just now breaking-in running and sounding better ( I did obey the proper break-in rules just FYI ). I put Amsoil in it around 800 miles with no metal fragments in the factory oil. I did have to add 3/4 of a quart at 4500 miles but can you explain why the “change oil” indicator ( or oil life percentage indicator) starts coming on at around 3600 miles when GM knows you’re using synthetic oil that should be good up to 10k miles ? Basically right now it’s telling me I have 0% life left in my oil but after checking it the oil looks perfectly fine and as I mentioned it’s damn good oil too. My next mod will be a catch can, maybe help with the having to add oil part but that won’t prevent the change oil indicator coming on prematurely. Just wondering.....any advice or input would be helpful, thanks
Chief Goose I put 5k miles on my fifth gen v6 in the first 3 months lol it has 40k miles now. But I parked her for the last month🙂 I change my oil every 3 k miles and am close to changing diff fluid and transmission fluids
Bible Digger .....yeah lol mine is more of a weekend driver as I’m lucky to have a company work truck and my personal truck that I drive mostly. What kind of oil do you use ? The 6.2 liters require synthetic and I’m not sure about the V6’s . Oh and btw as I’m typing this.....Happy New Year ! At least in my time zone anyway lol
So in a nutshell since im just a regular dude and not trying to race Vin Diesel everyday my car should last me good long while?
David LoPan Jr. Kind of what I was thinking
Granny shifting ,not double clutching like you should"
Yeah pretty much if you cruise around and don't race all the time you should see 300k miles
Exactly David. And remember, this guy is a CZcamsr, not a real car reviewer
@@bobrobertson2760 "Real car reviewer"? Lol, because they know what they're talking about.
The Camaro steering wheel is the best feeling wheel when you drive!!!
That’s only reason I want one and the car is nice
Srt sterring wheel?
What about Ferrari or Lambo or Other Supercars steering wheels? Sure , way too expensive for normal people but the Steering wheels look luxorious
@@kiwi9065 some ofe them are super cool but the new ones that are basically f1 steering wheels are wack.
Bought mine a month ago. Love this car so much. Great handling, great speed. The blindspots actually aren't that bad at all. Just keep an eye of the rearview mirrors occasionally to check if someone will be eventually behind you. If you are going to buy one, my one tip is to buy an RS or a higher class & buy one with dual exhaust on it.
How do you like your camaro so far im planing on getting one as well in 3 months or so
@@scotthill4317 well 3 years in, the car works great. Paint gets chipped by rocks very easy compared to other cars, not sure why. The car works fine but it seems like the 1st to 2md gear shift happens a little late occasionally. Other than that, this car is legit amazing
@@Nukeyttv aqsone thank you im planing on purchasing early next year thank you so much

I am 6ft 1 and over weight, I fit in my 2016 camaro just fine. my only complaints about the car are. the very long doors make it hard to get in and out in tighter parking spots. The car has very little storage in the cabin, the trunk opening is too small. The rear seat on the 6th gen has no head room. But the pluses are, I get very good highway gas mileage. The front seats are very comfortable and I have plenty of leg room. The car is very nimble, fast and fun to drive. the cars handling is superior to it's competition. The cars looks amazing and I have no issues with visibility like many reviews bitch about. my car has no shakes and raddles. The interior lay out is very simple and looks very cool. The exhaust sounds great, even on my 3.6 v6 RS. The features even on the base interior are better than its competitions base interiors. you still get a 7 inch touch screen with android auto, push button start and remote start. automatic climate control and other nice features.
What kind of MPG do you get?
Android auto isn't a feature
Not enough storage for those twinkies, eh? Jk buddy. I envy you. I want one soooooo bad right now. Good for you man!
@@Huntorix Im 5 8. What of it? this BS got a like, amazing...6 4 with a 2 inch D and 4 inch exhaust I bet...
@@Huntorix The way you replied right there you really sound like a little kid "shut up stop picking on me I really am tall"
Who else is watching this while taking a shit?🤷🏼♂️
So I own a lifted 2001 F-150,come from a Ford Family. I was able to drive an old buddy of mine's 2016 Camaro SS and boy was it beautiful. It, along with these videos are pushing me to save up for a nice new Camaro. Going from a big Truck to a low Muscle Car is a big change. But Your videos are incredibly helpful in helping me get more educated with the car itself. Stay Gucci!
Very helpful video! My brother is looking into buying his first US car and it's gonna be a 6th gen v6. Since I'm more familiar with mustangs this video was exactly what I needed! Greetings from Germany
very cool of you to do this, I just went out and sat in one today (had a sunroof) and its a little too small for me. Not enough headroom. So if your under 6 foot, definitely consider this car. But if your like me and have a body like Shrek, consider another option.
Mike Jones lmao
Much more room without the sunroof. I'm 6'7" tall and I have enough headroom.
Mike Jones Guessing by your profile picture, I guess you went with a Kia? lol
Sure did raul, no sunroof and very roomy. But it's leased til 2020 so I'm keeping tabs on cars til then.
Nigel White 6'3" and I fit with a helmet but I'll say that I can't sit quite as upright as I'd like
For people being potentially turned off because it may be hard to see if you are short I am 5ft 1 I own a 16 2SS you have nothing to worry about hope that helps :)
AAA RRR you just saved my life I’m your exact height and I sat in one and even drove one but that was a convertible so I wasn’t sure how the vision would be with just a coupe so thanks for this comment 😂
This video is a week late for me, I just picked up my 2SS! I freaking love it! I definitely want to put a Borla muffler on. I have so many freaking dreams for my SS. Only problem is I live in CA.
Mars just pay the mechanic under ;) lol
I would never live in CA....that and more reason's alone

Fantastic job on this. Really great info and very hones. Thank you for putting this together
Only issue I've had with mine was due to a bad install of an amp/sub by a "professional" audio store. Cost $1700. Destroyed my starter, battery, and a relay circuit in the trunk a couple months later... It's a fun vehicle for sure. Had mine up to 175mph and it takes corners like a boss with the Pilot Sport 4s. Seats are comfortable for long drives too.
Ty, I'm buying one tomorrow, so this video helped solidify that decision.
Good video. I'd like to add just one comment. The original tyres are made for temperatures exceeding round about 15 C. I live in northen Europe (Sweden) where it often is below 15 degrees, like in the mornings. This leads to problem getting the power down, especially in sport mode. More than 15, no problem. I thought this might be good to know.
I just got mine in late April, I just had a complete paint correction, and ceramic coating done. Definitely, plan on having the rear end fluid drained at 1,500 miles. did my first oil change at 500 miles. I plan on putting about 5,000 miles on mine before any major mods. I did add a catch can but I can quickly remove it if I had to bring it in to a dealer.
Oh yeah, this is right up my alley. I am a prospective buyer for sure.
You can bypass the skipshift for free. When leaving first gear, you quickly put the stick to neutral (it's resting center) and then down into 2nd.
Thanks Riley for this very informative video. I am quite disappointed GM is still struggling with rear axle/half shafts/driveline robustness. This was a big issue back on CTS-Vs and I would hope GM would have learned how to develop a reliable driveline system since then. It would be a hasty generalization at this point to say it is a chronic problem but it is very concerning to say the least. GM may have cut corners during the vehicle validation which can explain also the interior rattles (not enough cycles on the 4-post shaker).
The brake dust is absolutely HORRIBLE; I can't wait to change these pads. But I'm glad that brake dust is my biggest concern
I have the same problem with mine
I covered my whole car with car paint protection. #2 I agree with you so in general just don't be dumb. I will also be getting better exhaust as well
Thanks man for being honest to the people who are looking into buying a 2016 camaro. I haven't seen one of these kind of vids for a mustang!! I wish there was so I could see what I would be getting myself into if I want to purchase one.
Raúl what kind of mustang are you looking into???
+Brandon Corona 2015-2017
Raúl wait for the 2018 mustang , affordable , new look , and 20 more hp i think
+Angel Martinez IMO I think the new ones look ugly as fuck
+Jaymie 5.0 If only there was a video of what I would get myself into though...
i have a 1996 camaro ss runs high 12,s on street tires and has over 200k love it! been very dependable
Totally doesn't have anything do with a 6gen lmao!!
Great video bro! I just got a Camaro yesterday and I'm super happy!
IS IT A GOOD CAR I WANT ONE SO BAD!!!!!!!!??????
People complain about the visibility 🤦🏽♀️. It’s actually not as bad as people complain about. You have to adjust your mirrors to the blind spots and all you have to do is turn your head to see. Also adjust the passenger seat so it’s sitting the bar. I like the 6th gen because it feels more like your sitting in a race car. It’s more snug than the 5th gen. One thing people don’t know is the room issue isn’t as bad as you’d think. The back seats fold down. I was able to fit a tuft and needle mattress in my back seat I did have to remove the box but it fit (folded of course)
this was very helpful. thanks man!
this video came out just in time!!
Slow clap bro, this video is perfect and very helpful. Thank you!
Just bought 22 6th camaro..love it.
I've had a 2017 premium, performance pack 5.0, 2020 Scat Pack challenger and now a 2019 ss 1LE (all manual), the camaro is by far the best drivers car and the best performing. This thing is an actual track weapon. Good lord lmao
Lol I’ve went from 4th gear to 2nd gear at full throttle in my SS 1LE. Revs shot up to 7K RPM, engine and drivetrain is fine. My LT1 almost drowned in a bad storm, it drank some water, it dried up, perfectly fine 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
So I've had my 2016 Camaro SS for just over two years now and have had none of these problems, except the paint swirls, brake dust, and the exhaust rattle. I've had no diff problems or half shaft issues and I've taken it to Race Wars, half mile roll/drag races, and even taken it road racing and haven't changed my diff fluid...although I probably will now. The skip shift eliminator kit is pretty awesome. Also I saw some people say that the 5.0 mod for mod has more gains and that is not entirely true. You have a 5.0 vs. a 6.2 the bigger motor would react better to certain mods than others. Plus you have to factor in the tune, the dyno, and the tuner. You can take a car that puts down higher numbers on one dyno than another car on a different dyno and still get spanked.
Thank you, i am from Switzerland and think will buy next week a 6th gen :))))
Sweet review...thank you🙏🏽
Do you have any insight on the lifters going bad in the automatics because of the Chevy fuel saver system (problems similar to what the Dodge guys go through with the MDS & the ubiquitous “Hemi Tick”?
Cheers.
Nice review. Thanks
I really really want this camaro I ride past one on my way to my 8/hr job and it makes me want to quit instantly. And do something else.
Thanks for saying phastekperformance I been looking for Camaro mods
The exhaust valve noise is very notorious, mines started happening at 11k miles. However IT'S COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. Got mines replaced on a Saturday for free and now no noise.
The rear diff issue is from the factory not shipping them out with proper fluid levels and the dealership NOT performing a pre delivery inspection and verifying that everything is up to spec. One thing my dealership does. Proud owner of a 2.0L 6spd owner
Well, I have had three 6th generation Camaros, a 2016 with the turbo four with a manual, a 2017 six manual with the npp exhaust, and finally a 2017 SS convertible, which I am totally in love with. I put 5 to 10 thousand on each of these cars with no problems at all. The biggest problem is visibility, you sit low in them, you just have to get used to it. The performance is good on all of them, the sound from the four was not to great, but was a little better when i removed the mufflers, the six had the dual mode exhaust and left it loud all the time, I actually bought it because I liked the sound of one I heard on You Tube. But the best one is my SS, it has an automatic which is not my normal choice, but it works great with this engine, better I think than the manual, I tried both. I did not have the dual mode exhaust on it, so I had the mufflers removed, you need to do this, it sounds so good.
When I cold start my car and slowly drive out of my driveway it makes a really loud rumble sound from my front left tire area. Not sure what it is, maybe the rotary?
thanks for the info fortunatly i have not had those issues i have the 2016 2 SS the only prob i have had was with the radio it locked up on me the dealer took care of it so i have 5000 miles and it has been flawless except for the radio again thanks for the info have a great day
Thanks for posting. Absolutely perfect timing. I'm going to make a decision by next week between one of these or the scat pack.
AmericanGTS scat packs are more of a true muscle car, more roomier, more comfortable, but heavier and not as great for turns. I am in the same boat but thinking much farther out lol. I really love classic cars so the Challenger appeals a bit more in that respect to me personally. Good luck and have fun!
EBSting I entirely agree with you on the scat pack. The thing is I was at the dealership ready to pull the trigger on the Charger scat pack but the salesperson wasn't budging at all on my trade in. Matters got worse when he told me my KBB cash value for my trade in is only 13k so his trade in offer of 17k was doing me a HUGE favor according to him to which I replied with a are you fucking kidding me? Plus there was this pressure to purchase their 50k scat pack and that there's no other cheaper ones around which was a blatant lie. Anyway the Camaro 1SS is a lot cheaper.. leaning towards it right now.
They're both great options! Can't go wrong either way!
Scat Pack!!!!
Got a 17 SP Challenger. Went through the Costco auto buying program. The MSRP on the window was just under 48K. I got mine for just over 40K using that program. Mine is only missing a couple options. Very easy transaction with no problems. As far as the car goes. Love it. No regrets. As far as performance goes, sure the SS is better for a road course, but for straight line performance, both are very close in that category. I don't live by a track, so would never road race mine anyway. Anyways enjoy whichever you choose to go with.
I already had to take my 17 redline automatic to the dealer for the diff. The was a loud humming sound when cold.
It was low on fluid and also there's a slight grinding type of feeling sometimes when it's shifting.
Apparently gm or Chevy at least is suppose to be coming out with pam upgrade early next year.
I'll put it on my channel one of these days.
I had to change the tires to all seasons just because the stock Goodyear's just kept getting nails.
Iit is what it is
Thank you for this fantastic video!
Camaro's issues don't scare me - these aren't things I would consider "big deal", maybe apart from breaking halfshafts but then I want auto anyway.
Love this sort of honesty - not just picture-perfect bullshit, but honest downfalls cause like you said, every car has some.
Thank you!
Great video. I will keep the facts your stated in mind
Only problem I have in my A8 6th gen is how it throws itself into second gear from first (under light throttle). Makes me wonder is something wrong or is it supposed to do that. All other gears shift smoothly. All around great car to me though.
I want one soooo bad. Have 92 25th anniversary but really want one of the new ones. "The Exorcist" model is awsome!
Greatly informative, even with the cons.
You hit the nail on the head .
One of the greatest performances bargains available to the general public.
Hell I'm picking up my new 2019 ZL1 tomorrow morning.
Even if it has a few cons.
Thanks again and by the way nice color choice.
Good video thank you very helpful
you should replace the diff fluid on all vehicles at 500 and again at 1500. it will be nightfall gray at 500. There is now a fix for the NPP rattle.
I have no rattles in my 17 2SS with NPP and a build date of 6/12/16. the only factory problem my car had was scratches on the inner door panels.
Word on the street is GM has too much inventory of Camaros, now is the time to go wheel and deal on one.
It's too bad I didn't jump on it 2 years ago. Looking around for Camaros now, it's slim pickings and the discounts are slim to none.
I’m about to cop one real soon, hope all goes well
Ended up with one two days ago lol swear
Clarence Aaron Jones you can bring like 4k off listed price. If you really try
@@gop4usa12 U can get the ugly refreshed ones for good deals
I'm pretty sure all of this stuff that you are mentioning is fairly rare especially the rear diff issue. You do want to upgrade the axles and stub axles that's a given especially if you're going to be launching the car a lot. That is a massive amount of stress for any car that is stock. Not only that, it depends on how bad you beat the car. CZcams has given a great example of truly what people do with their cars and makes me terrified to buy anything used. If you're good to your car it will be good to you too. Nice video.
What do u think about the air vents inside? I love everything abojt the 6 gens but they are really the only thing that bothers me. They look live plane jets to me. Idk maybe im too picky...
How would you compare throttle response on this car to a C7? I owned a C7 for 3 weeks and a lack of immediate and crisp throttle response was a huge factor in my decision to sell the car. Gm's throttle programming to control the torque is too conservative on the C7. I wonder if they reprogrammed it for this car.
I have a 2019 camaro 2SS A10. It has over 50k miles an track my car on the weekends. Have been for over a yr an I just broke my carrier bearing so I decided to buy a one piece drive shaft from DSS. It’s a 3.5 aluminum driveshaft an hoping everything will be stronger an a lot less hrsp lose to wheels. I’ve heard a lot of 6th gen guys having this problem
been watching your videos for awhile, and it inspired me to buy one. picked up my 2ss 6/23/17. keep up the good work rp
RP PRO, If I ordered a 2017/18 Camaro SS "without" the NPP Exhaust Option would the car always be in the louder mode or in between? Second, That NPP adds zero torque and H.P correct? With the Stang coming out with a 10 auto and the SS sticking with it's 8 speed I wish I could find the new Torque/H.P #s on the Mustang GT?
I was in double checking my fuses under the hood, I was missing like at least 4or5 fuses plus there is no coolant pump rly the spot location is K-6 from the cover I've been driving this car for almost a year having never looked under there... So should there be a fuse where it says one should be of course with specified amperage?
yo this is in tomball tx where im from, im watching this as my parents are buying me one right now!
im looking into getting a muscle car... at first it was a Mustang GT, until I saw the 2ss Camaros sheeeesh these are beautiful. And I feel like you get alot more (interior wise) for the money whether its a 1ss or a 2ss compared to the GT base model and the GT Premium
I don't think the rear diff is necessarily a weak point. On the cars with the eLSD (1LE, ZL1) it is recommended to change the fluid around 1500 miles. If you don't do that, be prepared to have issues come up. Also the 1LE's come with different half shafts than the regular SS, not sure if they're the same as the ZL1 or not.
Hwllo my question is if car only has normal exoust is only in quit mode or are they loud or is is more a a nutruel tone not quit or loud?
So i heard i need a catch can for the oil or something. Is that only for the 2.0turbo car or does rhe v6 and v8s need them too??
Have they corrected the blend door issue that was a problem in some of the 5th gen A/C- heat system. Like the one I own looking at 3500 to get this issue resolved
I have the magnaflow exhaust and still had that rattle noise. So I took it to an exhaust shop they cut out the valves. That door rattle is still bothering me I play my music pretty loud tho.
But what made you choose the camaro SS over the scatpack (yes i know u have a hellcat now)
Do this new 2016 and up camaro have timing chain issues like the 2010-2015 engine???
I'm looking to get a 2016+ Camaro V6 so I'm wondering if it has the same possible issues as the SS?
Hi thank you for the info nice video I have a 16 Camaro V6 I'm looking to put Cut outs in the exhaust with remote can you please tell me am I going to having any issues with the warranty because of this and do you know anyone that had it done. Also I am mechanic by trade old-school mechanic do you know if I can do my own oil changes breaks without warranty issues
So I’m looking to buy a Camaro, new preferably 21, but I just saw a 2017 RS at a Toyota dealership with 12k miles for $27k and it has all the bells and whistles one would want to add, spoiler, front splitter, dark tint tail lights, tinted windows. So in your opinion is that a good buy??
Will stay with my 5th Gen I've never had those problems with my 2014 camaro ss. The visibility issue you just have to adapt.Plus your side mirrors help with that..
I have a 14SS custom tuned and all that but I am seriously thinking about getting into a C7 Corvette or 6th Gen next summer... have you seen how cheap the 6th gen is going for on Cars.com? I just don't like the interior of our 2014's man...... it is starting to bother me.....
@@VaddyFC customize your interior to suit your needs. The 2016-2020 camaro looks too much like the mustangs from the top of the car down to the rear quarter panels and tge way the door is shaped. Plus i dont really like the LT1 engine they cant hold that much boost and people have had overheating issues with those.
@@VaddyFC C7 vette would be nice make sure you have front end aligned or they will chew up tires. Theres a guy on youtube warning people about that. He only got 12000 mikes out of his tires. He had to het new tires while on a trip.
I Just bought my V8 Camaro ss convertible automatic and I love it! It's 6.2 liter where as the mustang is 5.0 liter. The Camaro goes 0-60 in 4 flat the mustang in 4.3
The value is amazing. A base model ss for around 30k is very upgradable. You can slap a supercharger and twin turbos for around 10k in parts or alot less if you rebuild some used performance parts. I can build an ss to out perform a ZL1 with 40k cash vs the 50k plus purchase price of the dealership superchargered ZL1.
Pros
Bigger fuel injection 6.2 liter
Brembro brakes
Tight steering in track mode
The ability to disable traction and stability control
The Camaro is made out of metal and feels good to drive.
The Corvette is lighter and feels like it can get away from you easier.
Sure Corvettes are faster stock, but being in a solid built car like a Camaro has advantages in a wreck.
The ability to add aftermarket forced air induction was one of the reasons I bought the ss Camaro.
The convertible is a contender on a drag strip, if you go to the trouble of removing the top. To reduce weight but you might as well buy a dragster at that point.
brad baxter convertible camaros weigh more, removing the roof doesn’t help that. The chassis has a lot more reinforcement due to it not having the structural support that a roof gives. And with that. Because you are in a vert, you argument loses credibility because in a vert you are basically fucked.
Convertible makes it a chick car
LMR.com ftw for all things '79 to present Mustang aftermarket and restoration parts!
You should look into getting the Dr. Colorchip repair kit. Works great!!!
None of those issues with my RCF, though sometimes I do miss a manual trans.
I have a 2016 SS Camaro manual transmission. I noticed that I was burning oil quite a bit. Like 1.5 qts every 1k miles. Took it to the dealer and they told me that it's perfectly normal for it to do that. I don't buy that bull. Have you or anyone you know of experienced this? They specifically told me it was because it's a manual transmission and it was "user error" that it was happening with it.
Anyone know what kind of rods and pistons the 6th gen Camaro engines have? Cast Or forged?
Love this
I don’t know what I wanna do, Should I get the 2016 Camaro SS or 2018 1LT
I’ve had problems with brake booster replaced booster twice I was getting oil inside booster it turned out a sensor located near the booster that was allowing oil into the booster it turned out be a broken plug inn wire broke and sensor wouldn’t work.

Are there any 6th gen Camaro owners that have had any powertrain issues with their cars? I'm curious I want to know if the LT1 is as reliable as the LS3.
Vaddy _ although I don’t own one, based on reviews the powertrain is good, the tremec trans is wonderful. The engine is reliable too.
I had a valve spring break on my 2017 C7.
just got a 2017 RS and the door rattles when i jam the bass a little bit, otherwise has been great with 1500 miles on it
Outside of the front splitter is the front bumper on the SS and the ZL1 The same On the 6th gen
Hype I didn’t have the paint chips bc the guy I bought it from got the car repainted really well😂 I had a v6 2014 camaro before getting my 2017 v6 rs and the 2017 is such a better car it’s insane the interior is put together very well unlike the 2014 and you can feel the extra 22hp a lot
awesome video.
Hey whats a good aftermarket store for scatpacks?
What’s more reliable a 5th or a 6th gen Camaro ???
The Adams Polishes code doesn't work...? Any help..?
What’s the 2016 camaro like after 100k miles??
A piece of shit some can't make it past 80,000 start with the transmission, I am a female who had a 2016 rs bought it Brandon new, done with GM, & Chevy products 😮
What do you think of the Alcantara? I know they are trying to save money by using that cheap synthetic materia.. ILE would be so much better with leather..
2019 ss le just brought mine
I’m 6’6” and have a 2016 Camaro 2SS, I have no problems at all
i got the mustang they all have there problems but i just cant see out of the windows in the camaro love that engine tho
I have a 6 gen convertible and I can’t think of anything wrong with the car. But I don’t look forward to buying replacement tires.
