I have a themed shop and this past year I expanded to add vintage items that compliment my handmade goods. Just wanted to say that I started using your tip about reusing sold out listings for new vintage pieces with the same theme by accident. It was just easier to replace photos and tweak text for something in the same category. I see them getting favorited quickly without advertising. So now I know the quality score from the previous sold item is probably helping each new version.

Good job, yes most of the quality score gets saved, I have saved countless vintage stores over the last 8 years by doing this.

Does copying the listing work just as well before you change things or do you have to repost the old item and then change the contents after it’s posted?

You're also very right about the context photos with props. While not such an issue on Etsy, we also list the same items on our eBay store, and we had a case opened for a desk lamp, because we didn't include the book in the context photo! Ebay sided with the buyer, so we then made sure to loudly note that the purchase is for the item only if we have to use props...

I sell vintage on etsy...I don't use social media and have always used my sold out/already existing but not sold out listings as templates. I've been going about 5 years, 1700 current listings, 2500+ sales, STAR SELLER with often perfect score, 800+ 5 star reveiws...I've never run an ad and until recently (trying to get into POD) have never watched a UTUBE video about ETSY. I've been flying blind and did it intuitively...but I don't make much money and the amount of work is insane even though I'm constantly refining how I do things. I have about 2000 more unique items to list and only one of me!
I will follow your advise on always using SOLD OUT listings only, square shots and better overall photography, and adding video which I've been dragging my feet on. I've been wanting to overhaul and your video has given inspiration and direction. My store would make a great video for you to review RAINBOW TIME MACHINE VINTAGE. Thank you for this video. :) Carrie White

I’m planning to launch a store soon. I have a bunch of jewelry, mostly vintage, and a few decor and kitchen items as well. I also paint watercolor greeting cards and plan to get my best ones printed and sell them too. Can I do it all from one store? If I put vintage in the name of my store can I also sell handmade items? I plan to do a deep dive on your channel this week. Thanks for making such a clear and concise video.

I sell vintage on Etsy, quite successfully. My issue is with the renewal of a sold item advice. I have tried it and there are multiple concerns about it so I stopped. first one is that you lose all stats of that original sold item. if you had reviews and reviews with pictures, it will be very confusing for the buyers because it will be a different item. People who favorited it will get a notification that it is now back in stock and might buy it without noticing it's not the same item; even more so if it was in their cart. When I do my yearly inventory for my taxes, it also becomes more challenging. Finally, it will be a new listing in every other way with new pictures descriptions attributes and likely prices. once you publish it, it will get its own algorithm review so it's a bit pointless. I don't think this is good advice.

Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes, as always do what works for your business, I have worked with countless vintage stores who use this method, and it works fine, it's all about product pipelines and ensuring each product is similar.
Possible occasional minor niggles are far outweighed by increased visibility and more sales.

there's also another very practical issue with renewing a sold. as one never knows what and when a vintage item will be sold, one would need to jump on their deathpile, find the similar, take pics and renew as soon as it is sold. that means no drafts possible (and having a large ready to go drafts section is key for vintage sellers), also no rhyme or reason in your daily routine. I prefer to batch draft by category. it's much faster and efficient, then I list by copying existing expired or sold listings. when your inventory like mine is almost 1500 items, going for sold/renew would mean a very hectic life.

One thing I don’t understand about the inventory issue is. For example, if you are selling a vintage table and its unique, do you say you have 20 available of inventory? But what happens if the client decides to buy two? Even if you have more tables or a pipeline for such, the products will be different. Can you explain a bit more how you do this and what happens if a buyer clicks to buy more than you actually have?

    • @etsyconsultant

My mom and I do a vintage shop! Currently 1,572 sales since 2014 it's ok but could be a lot better. It's my best selling shop though out of all of them. So I now have a large vintage handkerchief sets inventory that I've been listing as part of the 1 A DAY THING haha. So you're saying it's way better to renew sold ones as part of the pipeline instead of using them to replenish inventory daily? I had it in my mind that people might buy more sets if they saw them all at once but realistically I guess that rarely happens.

Renewing with similar items I think is great however it does cause confusion with reviewing items.
You also need to wait until they’ve received their order as the photo changes on their order info on Etsy and they think they are being sent something else, this has happened to me.

Hello sir, I got a question
Do you know if it's bad if i sell multiple items different categories on Etsy on the same store? I mean, from the aesthetic perspective dose not look super professional ( and here i mean, there are different types of Colors in each listing) my shop it's quite good in banner/logo and presence overall. So, do you think it's better to have a limited amount of items but the store to be more aesthetic or it does not really matter?
I'll really appreciate an answer. thank you!

Hi, it is always better to have a cohesive and clear store profile, and preferably work to 100 items in that store.

I sell vintage jewelry and I’m going to try and do this tip on renewing an item that has sold. Now I would need to change the listing title is that okay?

Hi Gail, yes that would be fine, you have to do this to make the new item make sense.

Is upcycling vintage furniture considered vintage?

Hi, this is a great question, I had to think about it. Based on Etsy's definition, I would think the answer is no, others might disagree.
