As long as there's a balance of good quality and quantity of episodes then I'm all for it. But if the quality of episodes are lackluster then its a no go. But I know Discotek Media is gonna always come through. They're real passionate when it comes to bringing the best quality. And when they bring us some awesome HD Remasters they take the initiative of doing it themselves. They work with the best studios to get the job done. This is why I wish FUNimation would take notes. If DBZ was in Discotek's hands we would've been gotten proper remasters instead of the denoised trash we've gotten over the recent years. Its ironic that they've managed to pull this off with excellent bluray remasters of a good majority of the Lupin III tv specials. Projects that were once owned by FUNimation. I can't wait to see their remastered blurays of Digimon Adventures. We need more companies like Discotek Media. Companies that take their time to deliver a solid product with little to no compromises.

Another benefit is that blue rays are much more scratch resistant. DVDs scratch pretty easy.

There are some anime that have gotten complete Standard Definition releases on Blu-Ray that were never released on DVD such as 4Kids dub for Shaman King (as you pointed out) and Sonic X. In cases like that it's very much worth grabbing.

I've often thought about this myself, it is, depending on the release. Like, for a series such as Reborn or BoBoBo, I'm just grateful to have any release at all.

I wish "Kikaider" would get a blu-ray release.

For Dragon Ball I would LOVE a blu ray for it. Even if the film masters itself is it remastered in HD.

SD Blu-ray - Good if they're not botched.
Discotek does it here, some companies in Germany do it, Japan has been doing it for years (for example, some Toei shows have gotten it since 2016).
Sucks that Funimation & Viz never tried it, especially since the former has had shows that since got SD Blu-rays in Japan (Tenchi Universe/in Tokyo, some Gonzo shows from the mid-00s, early One Piece). We don't talk about Sentai because they botched every single set in their attempt at it

Truly, I like just having less clutter on my shelf. The Gundam Origin Limited Edition blu-rays were nice, but it was one case per OVA. I went with the release that has 3 OVA's per case. There's no reason these people can't put more episodes onto a blu-ray. They just want you to buy 6 discs instead of one.

I disagree. Those OVAs/movies take a lot of space especially if you count aufio with it too. If you put multiple movies into one disc. The sound ajd picture quality will suffer

this may sound weird but to be perfectly honest here I'm not really that big of a fan of blu-rays I'm more of a DVD-type of guy myself
I know blu-ray has better picture and sound quality , you can put more longer cuts of movies and more episodes of different shows but I really don't go out of my way to get blu-rays
and if and when I do I usually get the digibooks, steelbooks or special editions that the DVD version never got but overall still love my DVDs I'm just used to that format
I still prefer to buy DVDs over blu-rays that's just my personal preference
    is that weird?

    • @omegashenron8
      @omegashenron8 Před rokem +3

Nah everyone has their own preference. Myself personally will get the blu always If it's HD Native but if it's older and standard def I'll just grab the dvd if available. One other thing is that blu ray cases are smaller than clunky DVD cases so that's another reason why I'd go blu when I can.

Imo it's complicated lol on the one hand , sometimes it looks good like Dragon Ball Z Kai , or Cowboy bebop and pokemon etc but on the other hand, others can be a tad on the awkward side such as Re zero season 1 parts 1-2 Blu ray and some of the older bandai entertainment weren't in the best quality and didn't play properly.

I'm hoping that some of my past anime series are finally released onto a complete Blu-Ray DVD collection in 2023 like Cardcaptors (Nelvana), Spider Riders, Ultimate Muscle and Yo Kai Watch because they deserved to be released at last with the whole episodes.

Late response but Ultimate Muscle got picked up back in October and it's SD Blu-ray set came out back in May.

Discotec does all that and then bum Aniplex puts 3 episodes on a disc for a 6 episode boxset at 80 bucks...
But to answer your question I think its cool, I don't think we'd get a release otherwise so they are fighting the good fight

Hey do you know about the yu yu hakusho 30th box set from crunchyroll? Kinda lame theyre not rereleasing poltergeist report but i guess the new ovas killed that. Also no golden seal movie or eizou hakusho. Really lame imo but ill still buy it for the new ovas.
Damn this was probably our last chance of a poltergeist report redub unless they plan to relesse the first and second movie together on blu ray in the future. Anyway would love to hear your thoughts man. In the meantime, im going to watch the old movie 2 dub since ive never seen it. Funimation/crunchyroll have taken long enough....
